An Interleaving Scheme for DC-link Current Ripple Reduction in Parallel-Connected Generator Systems

  • This paper presents an interleaving scheme for parallel-connected power systems to reduce the DC-link current ripple. A paralleled generator system generates current ripple by the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) of each generator side converter. The current ripple in the DC-link degrades the efficiency of the whole generator system and decreases the lifetime of the DC-link capacitors. To mitigate these issues, the expression of the DC-link current is derived by a double-integral Fourier analysis while considering the modulation schemes. Optimized interleaving angles for the parallel generator system are obtained based on an analysis to minimize the dominant current harmonics component. Finally, the proposed interleaving scheme reduces the RMS value of the DC-link current ripple. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed interleaving scheme.

  • One of the major disadvantages of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system is high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Selected mapping (SLM) is an efficient distortionless PAPR reduction scheme which selects the minimum PAPR sequence from a group of independent phase rotated sequences. However, the SLM requires explicit side information and a large number of IFFT operations. In this letter we investigate a novel PAPR reduction method based on the radial basis function network and SLM.

OFDM 신호의 PAPR 감소를 위해 클리핑 잡음을 이용한 적응적 톤 삽입 기법 (An Adaptive Tone Injection Scheme using Clipping Noise for PAPR Reduction of OFDM Signals)

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 전송 신호의 PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio)을 효과적으로 감소시키기 위하여 클리핑 잡음 (Clipping Noise)을 이용한 적응적 톤 삽입 (Adaptive Tone Injection; ATI) 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 ATI 기법은 기존 TI 방법에서의 복잡도 문제를 개선하기 위해, IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) 출력 가운데 임계 진폭값 보다 큰 신호들을 클리핑 하는 과정, 클리핑된 신호에 대해 클리핑 잡음을 계산 후 주파수 영역 클리핑 잡음의 심벌 중에서 가장 큰 전력이 할당된 톤을 추출하는 과정, 추출된 톤을 확장된 성상도로 맵핑 후에 부분적으로 IFFT 하는 과정의 총 3단계로 구성된다. 모의실험 결과, 제안된 ATI 기법은 맵핑이 가능한 최적의 톤을 클리핑 잡음을 이용하여 추출함으로써 기존 TI 방법에서와는 달리 본래신호와 동일한 정보를 가지는 등가 신호의 가능한 모든 조합을 필요로 하지 않으며, OFDM PAPR 감소 성능 역시 최적의 TI 방법에 근접함을 보여준다.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new driving scheme to reduce the motion blur and save the power for OLEDs(organic light emitting diodes). We adopted a DVS (dynamic voltage scaling) method to reduce power consumption and the division of TV field to improve motion blur. In the proposed scheme, BEW (Blur Edge Width) was decreased to the ratio of 1/4 compared to the conventional scheme under the optimal conditions. In this scheme, the gray levels to which the DVS method can be applied were divided into much smaller groups depending on the number of subfields. Therefore, our scheme does not guarantee less power consumption for every image compared to the conventional scheme. However, the new scheme can move the gray levels adopting the DVS to higher gray levels. Thus, we can save power even when having images at high gray levels.

IEM-based Tone Injection for Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction of Multi-carrier Modulation

  • Tone Injection (TI) scheme significantly reduces the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of Multicarrier Modulation (MCM). However, the computational complexity of the TI scheme rises exponentially with the extra freedom constellation number. Therefore, a novel immune evolutionary mechanism-based TI scheme is proposed in this paper to reduce the computational complexity. By restraining undesirable degeneracy during the processing, this IEM scheme can dramatically increase the population fitness. Monte Carlo results show that proposed IEM-based TI scheme can achieve a significant PAPR and BER improvement with a low complexity.

Single-phase SRM Drive with Torque Ripple Reduction and Power Factor Improvement

  • In the single-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive, the required DC source is generally supplied by the circuit consisting of bridge rectifier and large filter capacitor connected with DC line terminal. Due to the large capacity of the capacitor, the charged time of capacitor is very short from the AC source. Lead to the bridge rectifiers draws pulsating current from the AC source side, which results in reduction of power factor and low system efficiency. Therefore a novel single-phase SRM drive system is presented in this paper, which includes drive circuit realizing reduction of torque ripple and improvement of power factor with a novel switching topology. The proposed drive circuit consists of one switching part and diode, which can separate the output of AC/DC rectifier from the large capacitor and supply power to SRM alternately, in order to realize the torque ripple reduction and power factor improvement through the switching scheme. In addition, the validity of the proposed method is tested by some simulations and experiments.

An Adaptive Companding Scheme for Peak-to-average Power Ratio Reduction in OFDM Systems

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals suffer from the problem of high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which complicates the design of analog front-end of the system. Companding is a well-known PAPR reduction technique that involves transforming signal amplitudes using a deterministic function. OFDM signal amplitude, on average, is Rayleigh distributed but the distribution can vary significantly from symbol to symbol, especially when constellation size increases. In this paper, a new adaptive companding scheme is proposed along with its design methodology aiming at optimizing the compander performance by accommodating this variation in its design. This is achieved by designing compander parameters separately for statistically dissimilar symbols in OFDM waveform and making the compander select from these parameters, during run-time, according to the features of input symbols.

  • In this paper, an effective peak power reduction scheme for a downlink OFDM-CDMA system is proposed. Using the partial parallel transform(PPT) structure, peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) can be reduced. The patterns of inputs of Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT) are more randomized in this structure by allotting the subcarriers to each users. At the cost of complexity we can obtain reduced PAPR and multiple access interference(MA) Computer simulations are carried out from the viewpoint of PAPR and demonstrated the improved PAPR performance.

OFDM 신호의 PAPR 감소를 위한 SLM-PRSC 결합 기법 (An SLM-PRSC Hybrid Scheme for PAPR Reduction of OFDM Signals)

  • 본 논문에서는 OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 신호의 PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) 감소를 위한 기존 SLM (SeLective Mapping) 방식의 성능을 개선하는 효과적인 SLM-PRSC 결합 기법을 제안한다. 제안 기법에서는 지정된 PRSC (PAPR Reduction Sub-Carrier) 위치를 제외한 주파수 영역 OFDM 심벌에 대해 SLM을 수행한 후, 그 결과들을 시간 영역 PRSC 시퀀스들과 결합하여 가장 낮은 PAPR을 갖는 SLM-PRSC 결합 시퀀스를 최종 OFDM 심벌로 결정하게 된다. 특히 매 OFDM 심벌마다 미리 준비된 동일한 시간 영역 PRSC 시퀀스를 이용하게 되어 IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) 연산 횟수의 증가를 방지할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 선택된 주파수 영역 PRSC 심벌은 SLM용 오버헤드로 사용 가능하다. 모의실험 결과, 제안된 SLM-PRSC 결합 기법은 기존의 SLM 방식과 비교하여 과도한 IFFT 연산 횟수의 증가와 별도의 오버헤드가 요구되지 않음에도 불구하고 PAPR 감소 성능을 크게 향상 시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.
