  • This paper presents the methodology for optimal design of power grid for offshore wind power plant (OWPP) and optimum location of offshore substation. The proposed optimization process is based on a genetic algorithm, where the objective cost model is composed of investment, power loss, repair, and reliability cost using the net present value during the whole OWPP life cycle. A probability wind power output is modeled to reflect the characteristics of a wind power plant that produces electricity through wind and to calculate the reliability cost called expected energy not supplied. The main objective is to find the minimum cost for grid connection topology by submarine cables which cannot cross each other. Cable crossing was set as a constraint in the optimization algorithm of grid topology of the wind power plant. On the basis of this method, a case study is conducted to validate the model by simulating a 100-MW OWF.

  • Power plant simulators have been used for operator training, control verification and engineering verification. In general, simulators can be used in the place where they are installed by only single user group at a time. Considering high cost of simulator development, a lot of available scenarios, the diversity of user level and accessibility based on users' work location, development of simulator system that can be used by multiple user groups regardless of location is required in order to enhance utilization of simulators. In this paper, the simulator system that can be used by multiple user group simultaneously without location limitation is proposed. The simulator system is composed of simulator servers, database servers, HMI servers, a web server, web clients. Simulator server consists of control model, process model that are developed for Circulating Fluidized Bed power plant located overseas. A web server manages user accounts, operation procedures, multiple server access between web client group and simulator server group. In other words, a web server makes a user group select a simulator server at a time. The developed simulator system is integrated after implementing process model, control model, HMI, and web server. Web client systems are installed on local site where power plant is located, while simulator servers, HMI servers, database servers, and a web server are located in KEPCO RI. The developed simulator system is verified by steady-state test, malfunction test and so on via remote access.

  • A power-plant simulation tool has been developed for training the plant operators and testing a plant control system. The simulation tool is composed of a graphic editor, a component model builder and a system simulation solver. Such new programing techniques as object-oriented modeling and GUI(Graphical User Interface) are employed in developing the simulation tool. The graphic editor is based on the OpenGL library for effective implementation of GUI while the component model builder is based on object-oriented programming for efficient generalization of component models. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.

  • A water wall system is one of the most important components of a boiler in a thermal power plant, and it is a nonlinear Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO) system, with 6 inputs and 3 outputs. Three models are developed and comp for the controller design, including a linear model, a multilayer feed-forward neural network (MFNN) model and an Echo State Network (ESN) model. First, the linear model is developed by linearizing a given nonlinear model and is analyzed as a function of the operating point. Second, the MFNN and the ESN are developed by using training data from the nonlinear model. The three models are validated using Matlab with nonlinear input-output data that was not used during training.

  • The damage of important equipments for the nuclear power plant by the earthquake brings the loss of human lives and economic losses. Therefore safety-related equipment of nuclear power plant must be proved that function must be designed and structural integrity so that it can be maintained also from accident condition of various kinds. In this study, the computer room air conditioner to be delivered at the nuclear power plant applied to this qualification, try to develop an optimum model. This model ended up with good results which were under suitably allowable conditions about structurally safe earthquake.

  • The significance of hydro-power plant is increasing in its public roles such as flood control and water supply as well as electric power production. Even if high level of reliability in facility operation is required, no specific reliability research has been made. This specifically stems from the lack of technology and research investments. The eventual goal of this study is to secure a methodology for reliability analysis of hydro-power plant so that an appropriate decision for operation and investment can be made. Specific effort was put to develop a reliability model for water supply system within hydro-power plant. For this study, we briefly examined the overview of the hydro-power plant including the electric power generation facility system. We then discussed the facility reliability analysis methodology for hydro-power plant. Based on rigorous examination of the water supply system and components roles, we drew major failure modes for each component and examined their effects.

  • In the nuclear industry, in order to keep pace with the 4th industrial revolution era, they are trying to improve the construction and maintenance ability by utilizing the technologies such as digital twin and VR/AR from the construction stage. However, the nuclear 3D CAD model, which is used as the base in the latest technology, is heavy due to a large number of facilities per unit space compared to other industrial companies, and it is difficult to directly incorporate the latest technology into the results of CAD programs for design purposes. In this study, in order to improve usability, we tried to lighten the 3D model. First, we analyze the existing nuclear power plant 3D model and draw out the problems and features. Secondly, we derived the factors to consider when we make the 3D CAD models lightweight.

  • The credibility of CHECWORKS FAC model analysis was evaluated for plant application in a model plant chosen for demonstration. The operation condition at each pipe component was defined before the wear rate analysis by plant data base, water chemistry analysis, and network flow analysis. The predicted wear was compared with the measured wear for 57 sample components selected from 43 susceptible line groups analysed. The inspected 57 locations represent components of highest predicted wear in each line group. Both absolute value and relative ranking comparisons indicated reasonable correlations between the predicted and the measured values. Four components showed much higher measured wear rates than the predicted ones in the feed water train from main feed water pump discharge to steam generator, probably due to high hydrazine concentration operation the effect of which had not been incorporated into the CHECWORKS model. The measured wear was higher than the predicted one consistently for components with least susceptibility to FAC. It is believed that the conservatism maintained during UT data analysis dominated the measurement accuracy. A great deal of enhancement is anticipated over the current plant pipe management program when a comprehensive plant pipe management program is implemented based on the model analysis.

  • This paper describes the improvement of the calculation by using $6{\sigma}$ method on steam turbine simulator in a nuclear power plant. The simulator is essential to not only verification and validation of control logic but also making sure of control constants in upgrading the long time used control system into the new one. And the dynamic model is a key point in that simulator. The model used during the retrofit period of the turbine controller in Kori Nuclear Power Plant makes difference in calculating generator output and control valve positions. That is because such operating data as the main steam pressure, the main steam temperature and control valve positions of Yongkwang #3 are different from those of Kori #4. Therefore, the model parameters must be tuned by using actual operating data for the high fidelity of simulator in calculating the dynamic characteristic of the model. This paper describes that the $6{\sigma}$ method is used in improvement of precision of generator output calculation in the steam turbine model of the simulator.
