  • In this study, a tsunami hazard curve was determined for a probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) of a tsunami event at a Nuclear Power Plant site. A Tsunami catalogue was developed by using the historical tsunami record prior to 1900 and the instrumental tsunami record after 1900. For the evaluation of the return period of the tsunami run-up height, power-law, upper-truncated power law and exponential function were considered for the assessment of regression curves and each result was compared. Although there were in total only 9 tsunami records on the east coast of Korea during the time period of the tsunami catalogue, there is no research like this about tsunami hazard curve evaluation, so this research lays a foundation for probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment (PTHA)

  • For two kinds of 25Cr-20Ni stainless steels, SUS310J1TB TB and SUS310S with and without a small amount of Nb and N, creep behavior has been studied in a stress and temperature range from 147 to 392MPa and from 923 to 973K with a special reference to tertiary creep. The average creep life of SUS310J1TB was about 100 times longer than that of the SUS310S. The apparent activation energy for the initial creep rate was 330 kJ/mol in SUS310J1TB, while that of the SUS310S was 274 kJ/mol in a power law creep region and 478 kJ/mol in a region of power law breakdown (PLB). The activation energy for SUS310S below PLB is close to the that for self-diffusion. When compensating for the temperature dependence of the Young's modulus and the omega value, it was found that the apparent activation energy for SUS310J1TB was reduced to the activation energy for diffusion of chromium atom in a gamma steel. The stress exponent of SUS310S was about 12 above PLB and 5.1 in a power law creep region. Notwithstanding that the creep condition for SUS310J1TB was in a power law creep region, its stress exponent was 8.3 larger than that of SUS310S corresponding to the same creep conditions. This was ascribed to the presence of fine precipitates in SUS310J1TB.

  • The law gives the Ministry of Commerce the power of monitoring, oversight, and accountability for corporations in general. However, Article 219 of the Companies Law has made oversight of listed companies within the jurisdiction of the Capital Market Authority, but this exception, in the author's opinion, is not clear because the law obligated the Ministry of Commerce to monitor and account for joint-stock companies, whether they were listed or not included in some cases.

  • The relationship between carrier electron concentration(n) and atmosphere oxygen partial pressure($P_{O_2}$ for pure ZnO calculated by the mass-action law, well-known as n ${\propto}P^{-1/m}_{O_2}$ where m = 4 or 6 for the single or the double ionization of the native donor defects due to its nonstoichiometry, respectively, is found in competition with the calculation result on the basis that the total defect concentration is the sum of those of unionized and ionized defects. Definitively, it is found inconsistent with the calculation result by employing the Fermi-Dirac(FD) statistics for their ionization processes. By application of the FD statistics law to the ionization while assuming the defect formation is still ruled by the mass-action law, the calculation results shows the concentration is proportional to $P^{-1/2}_{O_2}$ whenever they ionize singly and/or doubly. Conclusively we would like to propose the new theoretical relation n ${\propto}P^{-1/m}_{O_2}$ because the ionization processes of donors in ZnO should be treated with the electronoccupation probability at localized quantum states in its forbidden band created by the donor defects, i.e. the FD statistics

  • Power generator is one of the most important component of electricity generation system to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy. I t designed robustly to maintain high system reliability during operation time. But unexpected failure of the power generator could happen and it cause huge amount of economic and social loss. To keep it from unexpected failure, health prognostics should be carried out In this research, We developed a health prognostic method of stator windings in power generator with statistical data analysis and degradation modeling against water absorption. We divided whole 42 windings into two groups, absorption suspected group and normal group. We built a degradation model of absorption suspected winding using Fick's second law to predict upcoming absorption data. Through the analysis of data of normal group, we could figure out the distribution of data of normal windings. After that, we can properly predict absorption data of normal windings. With data prediction of two groups, we derived upcoming Directional Mahalanobis Distance (DMD) of absorption suspected winding and time vs DMD curve. Finally we drew the probability distribution of Remaining Useful Life of absorption suspected windings.

  • A combined heat and power cogeneration system driven by low-temperature sources is investigated by the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The system consists of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and an additional process heater as a series circuit. Seven working fluids of R152a, propane, isobutane, butane, R11, R123, isopentane and n-pentane are considered in this work. Maximum mass flow rate of a working fluid relative to that of the source fluid is considered to extract maximum power from the source. Results indicate that the second-law efficiency can be significantly increased due to the combined heat and power generation. Furthermore, higher source temperature and lower turbine inlet pressure lead to lower second-law efficiency of ORC system but higher that of combined system. Results also show that the optimum working fluid varies with the source temperature.

  • Studies of Internet algorithms or policies require experiments on the real large-scale networks. But practical problems with large real networks make them difficult. Instead many researchers use simulations on the Internet topology models. Some tried to find out abstract topological properties of Internet. And several models are proposed to reflect Internet's topological characteristics better. But few studies have been performed on how to model the evolution of Internet. We propose algorithms for modeling addition and removal of nodes and accompanied change of topologies. We analyze the topologies generated by our algorithms to observe that they obey the power-laws better than those generated by existing ones. These algorithms are also expected to be helpful in predicting future topologies of Internet.

  • Correlated responses have been widely analyzed since Liang and Zeger (1986) introduced the famous Generalized Estimating Equations(GEE). However, their variance functions were restricted to known quantifies multiplied by scale parameter. In so many industries and academic/research fields, power-of-the-mean variance function is one of the common variance function. We suggest GEE-type pseudolikelihood estimation based on the power-of-the-mean variance using existing software and investigate it's efficiency for different working correlation matrices.

  • In this paper, the theoretical and experimental characteristics of magnetic and electric fields in the vicinity of high voltage lines are investigated. To realize these measurements and calculations, we have developed some equations for two overhead power line configurations of 150 kV (single circuit, double circuit), based on Biot-savart law, image and Maxwell theories, in order to calculate the magnetic and electric fields. The measurements were done to a maximum distance from the tower of 50 m, at a height of 1m from the ground. These experiments take into consideration the real situations of the power lines and associated equipment. The experimental results obtained are near to that of the Biot-Savart theoretical results for a far distance from the tower; and for a distance close to the power line, the results from the image theory are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • We present a test of the emission statistics of active galactic nuclei (AGN), probing the connection between the red-noise temporal power spectra and multi-modal flux distributions known from observations. We simulate AGN lightcurves under the assumption of uniform stochastic emission processes for different power-law indices of their respective power spectra. For sufficiently shallow slopes (power-law indices beta ${\leq}$ 1.0), the flux distributions (histograms) of the resulting lightcurves are approximately Gaussian. For indices corresponding to steeper slopes (beta ${\geq}$ 1.0), the flux distributions become multi-modal. This finding disagrees systematically with result of recent mm/radio observations. Accordingly, we conclude that the emission from AGN does not necessarily originate from uniform stochastic processes even if their power spectra suggest otherwise. Possible mechanisms include transitions between different activity states and/or the presence of multiple, spatially disconnected, emission regions.
