  • This paper describes the minimum cost expansion planning which is based on the economical aspect under the various conditions on the power system expansion planning. It presents not only linear cost characteristics analysis but also stepwise cost characteristics analysis which satisfies practical condition in the power system. The latter analysis must be handled by integer programming (IP), because the relation between the cost and the capacity has stepwise characteristics. In order to proceed the latter analysis, the solving procedure is illustrated in detais by using branch and bound method which includes the network flow theory and maximum flow-minimum cut theorem.

  • Transmission planning is an important part of power system planning to meet an increasing demand for electricity. The objective of transmission expansion is to minimize operational and construction costs subject to system constraints. There is inherent uncertainty in transmission planning due to errors in forecasted demand and fuel costs. Therefore, transmission planning process is not reliable if the uncertainty is not taken into account. The paper presents a systematic method to find the optimal location and amount of transmission expansion using Cross-Entropy (CE) incorporating uncertainties about future power system conditions. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

  • In this study, the comparative analysis, among the design standard value of distribution power, the calculated value from the measurement data of strand and the empirical data of the distribution line itself, have been performed for the elastic coefficients and linear expansion coefficients of distribution line conductors. The empirical values of elastic coefficients were lower about 10.6%(892kgf/mm2) than those of the design standard value of the distribution power and there were a little difference between the empirical values of linear expansion coefficients and the design standard value of the distribution power. From the above results, it could be concluded that the empirical values of conductor characteristics should be used in the dip design and installation of distribution line.

  • Based on the improved first order Taylor interval expansion, a new interval analysis method for the static or dynamic response of the structures with interval parameters is presented. In the improved first order Taylor interval expansion, the first order derivative terms of the function are also considered to be intervals. Combining the improved first order Taylor series expansion and the interval extension of function, the new interval analysis method is derived. The present method is implemented for a continuous beam and a frame structure. The numerical results show that the method is more accurate than the one based on the conventional first order Taylor expansion.

  • This paper presents a probabilistic approach of reliability evaluation and economic assessment for solving transmission network expansion planning problems. Three methods are proposed for TNEP, which are reorganizing the existing power system focused on the buses of interest, selecting candidates using modified system operating state method with healthy, marginal and at-risk states, and finally choosing the optimal alternative using cost-optimization method. TNEP candidates can be selected based on the state reliability such as sufficient and insufficient indices, as proposed in this paper. The process of economic assessment involves the costs of construction, maintenance and operation, congestion, and outage. The case studies are carried out with modified IEEE-24 bus system and Jeju island power system expansion plan in Korea, to verify the proposed methodology.

  • This thesis aims the development of power supply for the BTS of Mobile Telecommunication system. Specially, it receives AC power and it can be possible both supply the uninterrupted and stabile DC Power to BTS and simultaneously maintain full charging the back-up battery that is used in case failing AC power supply. In addition, easy maintenance is also the main purpose of it regardless of front and left side except rear side. In these days, it needs more small size power supply system in order to comply with the user needs regarding more easy maintenance and more less space as become smaller main telecommunication systems. This system can be installed close to wall and support more easy maintenance and it was considered easy expansion in case when it needs.

  • The indicated power of Stirling engine was affected by the heat exchange effectiveness of the regenerator. The temperature difference of working fluid between the expansion and the compression space of Stilting engine depends on the heat exchange effectiveness of the regenerator. The influence of the temperature ratio of expansion space to compression space of Stirling engine on the indicated power was analyzed by using Schmidt analysis in this study. In the Stirring engine, as the temperature ratio increased, the indicated power generally decreased. Therefor, it is necessary to develope the regenerator of high effectiveness. The actual indicated power was shown 64.9 percent of the predicted indicated power in maximum and 47.2 percent of that in minimum due to increased dead volume of engine, the loss of flow friction and heat transfer in the regenerator.

  • A fast and inexpensive approximate analysis method to predict power output characteristics of the Stilting engines in a preliminary design stage was investigated. In basic equations proposed by Walker, typical temperatures of working fluids in expansion and compression spaces were treated as those of working fluids in heater and cooler respectively. While the temperature of working fluid in the expansion space was actually lower than that of working fluid in the heater, the temperature of working fluid in the compression space was higher than that of working fluids in the cooler. In this paper, the working fluid temperature of expansion space was treated as lower than the heater temperature and that of compression space was treated as higher than the cooler temperature. Also, according to them, the power output characteristics of the Stirling engine were evaluated with respect to the GPU-3 and 4-215 Stilting engines. The following conclusions were drawn from the analysis. 1. Using the available experimental data from the GPU-3 Stirling engine, it was shown that the approximate analysis predicts the brake power with a maximum error of 19 percent at 1, 000rpm and with a minimum error of 3 percent at 2, 000rpm. 2. The approximate analysis data which for the GPU-3 Stirling engine were much closer to the experimental data than those of adiabatic 2nd order and 3rd order analysis within 1, 500rpm to 2, 500rpm. 3. The approximate analysis data which for the GPU-3 and 4-215 Stilting engines were much closer to the experimental data than those of the Beal number analysis.

  • VLIW processor is considered to be an appropriate processor for the embedded system, provided with high performance and low power con-sumption due to its simple hardware structure. Unfortunately, the VLIW processor often suffers from high memory access latency due to the variable length of I-packets, which consist of independent instructions to be issued in parallel. It is because of the variable I-packet length that some I-packets must be placed over two cache blocks, which are called straddle I-packets, so that two cache accesses are required to fetch such I-packets. In this paper, an expansion buffer cache is proposed to improve not only the instruction fetch bandwidth, but also the power consumption of the I-cache with moderate hardware cost. The expansion buffer cache has a small expansion buffer containing a fraction of a straddle packet along with the main cache to reduce the additional cache accesses due to the straddle I-packets. With a great reduction in the cache accesses due to the straddle packets, the expansion buffer cache can achieve $5{\~}9{\%}$improvement over the conventional I-caches in the $Delay{\cdot}Power{\cdot}Area$ metric.

  • The spatial distribution of neutron flux or reaction rate was calculated by cell or mesh tally in traditional Monte Carlo simulation. However, either cell or mesh tally leads to the increase of memory consumption and simulation time. In this paper, the function expansion tally (FET) method was developed in Reactor Monte Carlo code RMC to solve this problem. The FET method was applied to the tallies of neutron flux distributions of uranium block and PWR fuel rod models. Legendre polynomials were used in the axial direction, while Zernike polynomials were used in the radial direction. The results of flux, calculation time and memory consumption of different expansion orders were investigated, and compared with the mesh tally. Results showed that the continuous distribution of flux can be obtained by FET method. The flux distributions were consistent with that of mesh tally, while the memory consumption and simulation time can be effectively reduced. Finally, the convergence analysis of coefficients of polynomials were performed, and the selection strategy of FET order was proposed based on the statistics uncertainty of the coefficients. The proposed method can help to determine the order of FET, which was meaningful for the efficiency and accuracy of FET method.
