  • Localized communication networks for office automation, security monitoring, environmental management of buildings, computer communications, and other applications enjoy every increasing demand. This paper proposes a direct sequence spread spectrum communication system for use in power line data transmission. Advantages of power distribution circuits include reasonably universal coverage and easy access vis a standard wall plug. Disadvantages include limited communication bandwidth, relatively high noise levels, and varying levels of impedance, noise, and attenuation. Spread spectrum signalling provides immunity to narrow-band signal impairments and multiplexing capability. Our prototype power line communication module supports completely physical and data link layers based on the international standard ISO 10368 for reliable high-speed power line communication system. Moreover it provides useful functions to compose a plant monitoring and control system. All the circuits of the communication module are included in one compact circuit. Thus a functional communication system for the power line plant monitoring and control is implemented.

  • This paper has studied a remote AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) system using the power line and the telephone line as a communication media and the digital power meter. In the developed system, because we have used the power line and telephone, the facility is very easy and then its cost is not expensive. The system includes following elements: a digital power meter, an indoor communication system using a power line modem and a telephone line interface system for sending data to the utility company.

  • Power line communication channels are very complicated and models for communication channels vary with the types of electrical equipment, devices and load fluctuations. So, modeling and analysis of power line channels for implementation of power line communication systems is a very important process. Power line channel modeling and simulation are performed based on power system transient simulation models and power system CAD tools to create precise and accurate models. In this paper, a channel modeling and simulation method is proposed for power line communication systems using PSCAD/EMTDC, in which a PN 63 sequence code generator is applied for impulse response of the power line channel in the simulation model.

An Indoor Broadcasting System Using Light-Emitting Diode Lamps Coupled with Power Line

  • We introduce an indoor broadcasting system using light-emitting diode (LED) lamps coupled with a 220 V power line. Two couplers connected to the power line constitute a power line communication (PLC) link. The transmission path from an LED lamp to a photodetector forms a visible light communication (VLC) link in free space. When the LED lamp is coupled to the power line, a composite PLC-VLC link is formed, making it possible to transmit a VLC signal beyond line-of-sight. In experiments, a 4 kHz analog signal modulated with a 100 kHz carrier was sent to the power line by a PLC coupler, and LED lamps coupled to the power line detected the signal and radiated it to multiple VLC receivers in the room. This configuration is useful in expanding an indoor VLC sensor network to adjacent rooms or constructing a voice broadcasting system in a building or apartments with existing power lines.

  • It is made compulsory to install SPD for the purpose of protecting electric and electronic devices when an abnormal voltage such as lightning occurs to power line using power frequency of 60Hz. Recently, the high speed communication technology utilizing power line is receiving attention again as a communication technology for smart grid. The SPD influences the performances of power line communication when using SPD and power line communication system together. In order to improve the performance of power line communication, a proposed scheme for series connection of gas discharge tube to ZnO varistor was presented. This paper measured the impacts of series connection of GDT to SPD using ZnO varistor on the limit voltage of Class III SPD. This paper also presented the DC operating voltage of GDT which satisfies the limit voltage of power line communication system and SPD simultaneously.

  • In this paper, we propose a system model that predicts the original signal transmitted from the transmitter using the received signal in the power line communication system based on the multi - layer perceptron which is one of the machine learning algorithms. Power line communication system using communication system using power network has more noise than communication system using general communication line. It causes a problem that the performance of the power line communication system is degraded. In order to solve this problem, the communication system model proposed in this paper minimizes the influence of noise through original signal prediction and mitigates the performance degradation of the power line communication system. In this paper, we prove that the original signal is predicted by applying the proposed communication system model to the white noise environment.

  • A new communication system is suggested using a single-phase full-bridge inverter with high efficiency ferrite core for power line communication (PLC). The conventional system has a decreasing signal voltage problem due to internal resistance. The proposed system has almost zero internal impedance and replaces a linear amplifier.

  • In this paper a communication system that is not using the communication line but power line is presented. It will be very useful for an information-oriented society with tele-metering and home automation. Conventional system has a difficulty in transmitting information due to decreasing communication voltage and increasing carrier, current. Proposed idea is a special type switching amplifier system which has a low inner resistance. It can provide reactive power and dose not have low impedance between the transceivers. This new system is proposed to overcome the loss of conductor load in a PLC system.

  • This paper proposes a method for the implementation of a power line communication equipment using power line synchronization in a direct-sequence spread spectrum communication system. In order to implement a network using a power line as a transmission channel we have investigated the utilization of direct-sequence speread spctrum which gives such advantages as robustness against narrow-band interference and noise, and realization of multiple access. In a power line, however, complexity of synchronization makes it difficult to realize a multiple access and cost down and system simplification. The proposed technique of power line synchronization makes it possible to get cost down and system size small, and the realization of multiple communication can be achieved by the addition of address setting circuit.

  • Instead of installing new communication wiring to each house in the apartment house building. the power distribution network. which is already installed in the building. can be use as communication medium. In a safty management, by adoption of power line communication system, at remote we can monitor safty related sensors such as fire, gas leakage, burglar intrusion and emergency call which are located at each house. From this viewpoint, we developed security monitoring system for apartment house building using power lines. Security monitoring system consists of Power Line Communication-Sub Controller (PLC-SC). Power Line Communication-Main Controller (PLC-MC) and Management System (MS). Between a PLC-MC and a PLC-SC, the transmission rate is 1200 bps in power lines and modulation technique is frequency shirt keying (FSK). In between a PLC-MC and a MS, the transmission rate is 1200 bps in communication line (RS-485). As a result of this research. transmission loss is 0.1dB per meter of intrabuilding distribution network. Transmission can be reach in 250 meters. So it is enough to communicate for security monitoring system in apartment house building.
