  • Energy storage is a key issue when integrating large amounts of intermittent and non-dispatchable renewable energy sources into electric power systems. To maintain the instantaneous power balance and to compensate for the influence of power fluctuations from renewable sources, flexible capability for power control is needed. Adjustable Speed Pumped Storage Power Generator is pumped storage unit that is adjustable for pump output adjustments as well as the highest efficiency operations because it has fast response time. In this paper we address the adjustable speed pumped storage power generator for frequency control against the intermittence of wind turbine output and calculate the appropriate capacity of adjustable speed pumped storage power generator.

  • Diesel generator of nuclear power plant has a role for supply of emergency electric power to protect reactor core system in event of loss of off-site power supply. Therefore diesel generator should be tested periodically to verify the function that can supply specified frequency and voltage at design power level within limited time. For this purpose, appropriate maintenances in case that abnormal conditions were found are required in allowed time. In this paper, results of development of engine condition diagnosis technology and study on power plant of its technology for diesel generator are described.

  • The performance of an active power filter(APF) depends on the inverter characteristic, the control method, and the accuracy of reference signal generator. The accuracy of reference generator is the most critical item to determine the performance of active power filter. This paper introduces a novel reference signal generator composed of improved adaptive predictive filter. The performance of proposed reference signal generator was first verified through a simulation with MATLAB. Furthermore, the application of feasibility was evaluated through experimenting with a single-phase APF prototype based on the proposed reference generator, which was implemented using the TMS320C31 floating-point signal processor. Both simulations and experimental results confirm that our reference signal generator can be used successfully in practical active power filters.

  • In this paper, in order to generator protection from a electrical fault was occurred while a generator is operated, principles of existing generator protection algorithm is examined and analyzed. and a new generator protection algorithm was developed. also, during a generator operation, Algorithm, an analysis for the basic principle of protective relay to general faults, was developed. This paper, generator was simple analyzed on the assumption that three-phase winding and observe the IEEE std.

  • An efficiency test for generators is generally required in case of construction of a new power plant or replacement of an existing generator. Generally, the efficiency of generator is measured by the input-output ratio under any given condition. Therefore, the best way is to directly measure the value of input and output power of a generator and calculate the efficiency values. However, it is difficult to measure a generator's input values accurately, especially for large systems. So, we are usually measuring the losses of the generator. But for measuring these values, there are several constraints for test such as preparing additional power generator and releasing the protection relay for manual operation of auxiliary equipments. Therefore, this study suggests that a novel generator efficient test method using the shaft-torque method which can be carried out while the generator is normally operating. The reliability of the result value was verified by comparing with the efficiency test results of the conventional retardation method on IEEE Std 115-1995.

Influence of Frequency on Electromagnetic Field of Super High-Speed Permanent Magnet Generator

  • When compared with traditional power frequency generators, the frequency of a super high-speed permanent magnet generator (SHSPMG) is a lot higher. In order to study the influence of frequency on the electromagnetic field of SHSPMGs, a 60000rpm, 117kW SHSPMG was taken as a research object. The two-dimensional finite element model of the generator was established, and the two-dimensional transient field of the generator was simulated. In addition, a test platform of the generator was set up and tested. The reliability of the simulation was verified by comparing the experiment data with that of the simulation. Then the generator electromagnetic field under different frequencies was studied, and the influence mechanism of frequency on the generator electromagnetic field was revealed. The generator loss, voltage regulation rate, torque and torque ripple were analyzed under the rated active power load and different frequencies. The influences of frequency on the eddy current density, loss, voltage regulation rate and torque ripple of the generator were obtained. These conclusions can provide some reference for the design and optimization of SHSPMGs.

  • This paper presents results of the development of the Turbo-generator system with structure which is HSG(High Speed Generator) installed to high speed gas-turbine engine directly. Turbo-generator with high speed motor-generator directly has many advantages aspects of weight, size, lubrication system and complexity of the system compared of conventional turbo-generator system with gear-box. But because of direct high speed operation of the high speed generator, we have to need stable high speed motor driving algorithm for perfect engine ignition when gas turbine starting. Also we have to need design of the PCU(Power Conditioning Unit) for converting high speed AC output power to conventional AC power or needed DC power.

  • Generation cooperations have focused on active power directly related to economic value. So, utility cooperation have taken expense to stabilize power system, although generator has responded quickly with variation of power system voltage and is controlled at real time. As a reactive power source, it is necessary for generator's capabilities to be verified. But domestic generators scarcely have been tested and operated to reactive power capability. In case of power system fault, operators would not quickly take a follow-up actions about reactive power disturbance. Therefore generator reactive power capability verification strategy must be developed, several generators is tested as examples since 2004. This paper is extracted from the test results.

  • In order to analyze the characteristics of tidal current power generation system, we measured output power in M-G Set (Motor-Generator Set) and MATLAB/Simulink. We installed M-G Set (Motor-Generator Set) and did a simulation using MATLAB/Smulink. The simulation consisted of the tidal current turbine, PMSG, converter, and three-phase PWM inverter. Also, the speed control of the generator was performed using machine side converter. And we measured output voltage, current, power of the generator and the output power of three-phase PWM inverter.

  • Research related to renewable energy is urgently required to cope with the depletion of fossil fuel and the environmental pollution. This paper deals with maximum power control of 1kW rating wind power generator. To implement direct-drive generator, axial flux permanent magnet generator is adopted to test the converter. The blade is attached to the surface of outer rotor disk. Generally wind power generator is operated under the rated wind speed. To capture maximum power at my given wind speed, the coordination of generator and converter is essential. Buck/Boost converter is designed to charge 24V battery and under the low wind speed it operates as boost converter.
