Data center is an information hub and resource for information-centric society. Since data center houses hundreds to ten thousands servers, networking and communication equipment, and supporting systems energy saving is one of the hottest issues for green data center. Among several solutions for green data center this paper introduces higher voltage direct current (DC) power feeding system. Contrary to legacy alternating current (AC) power feeding system equipped with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), higher voltage DC power feeding system is reported to be a more energy efficient and reliable solution for green data center thanks to less AC/DC and DC/AC conversions. Main focus of this paper is on reliability issue for reliable and continuous operation of higher voltage DC power feeding system. We present different types of configuration of the power feeding systems according to the level of reliability. We analyze the reliability of the power feeding systems based on M/M/1/N+1/N+1 queueing model. Operation of the power feeding system in case of failure is also presented.
Constant load model is widely used for an electric train to perform the static analysis of AT (Auto Transformer) feeding systems. In this model, the train will be considered as a constant load model when it drives or as a constant source model when it applies regenerative brake. However there must be some constraints imposed on the pantagraph voltage in actual operations. These constraints are established for the reason of protecting the feeding facilities from excessive rise of regenerative braking voltage or guaranteeing the minimum traction power of train. In normal operating situation, the pantagraph voltage of the train should be maintained within these limits. Keeping these facts in minds, we suggest new methods or analyzing AT feeding systems using the constant power models with the conditions of voltage constraints. The simulation results from a sample system using the proposed method illustrate both the states of system variables and the supply-demand relation of power among the trains and the systems very clearly, so it is believed that the proposed method yields more accurate results than conventional methods do. The proposed methods are believed to contribute to the assessment of TCR-TSC for compensating reactive powers too.
There are some previous studies that utilize constant impedance models or constant current models for electric trains to perform the static analysis of AT feeding systems. These mentioned models have some merits of linear systems but yield erroneous results because of the innate restraints of the models since linear models cannot represent the features of constant power in inverter-driven trains. From these reasons, it is suitable that the train be considered as a constant load model when it drives or as a constant source model when it applies regenerative brake. However, excessive rise of regenerative voltage during the braking may damage the vehicle itself and the feeding systems so the voltage must be restricted below a certain value. Keeping these facts in minds, we suggest new methods of analyzing AT feeding systems using the constant power models with the conditions of voltage constraints. The simulation results from a sample system using the proposed method illustrate both the states of system variables and the supply-demand relation of power among the trains and the systems very clearly, so it is believed that the proposed method yields more accurate results than conventional methods do.

State estimation is to estimate the values of the states that minimize the error between the real states and the measured states, which are usually hampered by noise. It exploits the redundant data and the equality constraints achieved from the power systems. In the electric railway feeding systems, especially, the measured states may have significant level of noise in comparison with the commercial power systems. Since the meters - the sources of the data that include vehicles - are distributed in the long distance along the railroad, they are vulnerable to the signal interference. In this paper we have studied the application of state estimation method to the AT feeding systems and shown that this method can increase the reliability of the measured data.
The safe operation of electro railways is greatly dependant on its protective systems. The system so-called Fault Protection Wire(FW) is now widely adapted to protect in AT feeding systems. It is connected between the feeder and trolley circuit to return the fault current to autotransfonmers at substation. This paper computed the distribution of fault currents at FW in the system and also evaluated the safety from electric shock when ground fault or flashover occur in the feeding system. The results show FW is useful to protect power supply network from fault in electric railways
This paper presents a stability analysis of AC-DC power system feeding a speed controlled DC motor in which this load behaves as a constant power load (CPL). A CPL can significantly degrade power system stability margin. Hence, the stability analysis is very important. The DQ and generalized state-space averaging methods are used to derive the mathematical model suitable for stability issues. The paper analyzes the stability of power systems for both speed control natural frequency and DC-link parameter variations and takes into account controlled speed motor dynamics. However, accurate DC-link filter and DC motor parameters are very important for the stability study of practical systems. According to the measurement errors and a large variation in a DC-link capacitor value, the system identification is needed to provide the accurate parameters. Therefore, the paper also presents the identification of system parameters using the adaptive Tabu search technique. The stability margins can be then predicted via the eigenvalue theorem with the resulting dynamic model. The intensive time-domain simulations and experimental results are used to support the theoretical results.
A scope of this study is to establish the optimum plasma spray conditions for fine ($5\mu\textrm{m}$) $Al_2O_3$ powder. However, the flowability of the $Al_2O_3$ powder is not so good because of irregular particle shape and fine particle size. Therefore, powder feeding system was modified by 1) change of powder feeding line material from polymer to copper 2) shorten the powder feeding tube length 3) heating the powder feeding system to $80^{\circ}C$4) vibrating the powder feeding line continuously, in order to feed the fine powder homogeneously. The homogeneous powder feeding conditions were obtained with the modified powder feeding system by controlling the powder carrier gas flow and the powder flow rate indicator. The best plasma spraying conditions for the fine $Al_2O_3$ powder were found out as 40kw gun power, 80 g/min. powder feed rate and 50 mm working distance after characterizing the microstructure, hardness and wear loss of the $Al_2O_3$ coating layer.
Modern AC electric car has PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) -controlled converters, which give rise to higher harmonics. The current harmonics injected from AC electric car is propagated through power feeding circuit. As the feeding circuit is a distributed constant circuit composed of RLC, the capacitance of the feeding circuit and the inductance on the side of power system cause a parallel resonance and a magnification of current harmonics at a specific frequency. The magnified current harmonics usually brings about various problems. That is, the current harmonics makes interference in the adjacent lines of communications and the railway signalling system. Furthermore, in case it flows on the side of power system, not only overheating and vibration at the power capacitors but also wrong operation at the protective devices can occur. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. From these point of view, this study presents an approach to model and to analyse traction power feeding system focused on the amplification of harmonic current. The proposed algorithm is applied to a standard AT(Auto-transformer)-fed test system in which electric car with PWM-controlled converters is running.
