주파수조정용 에너지저장장치 운전제어 기술의 개발과 계통연계 자동제어 운전 (Development of Operation and Control Technology of Energy Storage System for Frequency Regulation and Operation by Grid Connected Automatic Control)

  • Grid-connected, large-capacity energy storage systems (ESS) can be used for peak load supply, frequency regulation, and renewable energy output smoothing. In order to confirm the capability of battery ESS to provide such services, 4MW/ 8MWh battery ESS demonstration facility was built in the Jocheon substation on Jeju Island. The frequency regulation technology developed for the Jocheon demonstration facility then became the basis for the 28MW and 24MW frequency regulation ESS facilities installed in 2014 at the Seo-Anseong and Shin-Yongin substations, respectively. The operation control systems at these two facilities were continuously improved, and their successful commercialization led to the construction of additional ESS facilities all over Korea in 2015. In seven (7) locations nationwide (e.g., Shin-Gimje and Shin-Gyeryeong), a total of 184 MW of ESS had been commercialized in 2016. The trial run for the new ESS facilities had been completed between April and May in 2016. In this paper, results of the trial run from each of the ESS facilities are presented. The results obtained from the Seo-Anseong and Shin-Yongin substations during a transient event by a nuclear power plant trip are also presented in this paper. The results show that the frequency regulation battery ESS facilities were able to quickly respond to the transient event and trial run of ESS is necessary before it is commercialized.

  • A methodology to evaluate the performance analysis for small hydropower at existing water treatment facilities has been studied. It consists of two main parts; flow duration function which can describe existing water treatment facilities and performance analysis to estimate the output characteristics of small hydro power plants. The output performance characteristics for Mi-ho reservoir, Sum-kang low dam, Sun-cheon sewage treatment plant and Nam-dong purification plant were analyzed, using developed model. According to the simulation results, the predicted data show that the data were in good agreement with measured results. Also, it was found that the developed model in this study can be used to analyze the output characteristics for small hydro power at existing water treatment facilities.

  • This paper introduces an overall system design of a real-time monitoring system that monitors condition of urban railway AC/DC transformers, disconnecting switches, circuit breakers, regulators, and GIS (gas insulated switchgear). For effective diagnosis of urban railway facilities we developed optimized sensors and application technology. The proposed system is combined with wireless technology, implementing remote real-time monitoring of urban railway facilities. The derived real-time monitoring system for power facilities in urban railway substations will be applied not only to diagnose low voltage DC (direct current) railways but also to diagnose design of small power facilities of skyscrapers and apartments.

  • The effect of air pollution on the distribution facilities was investigated. In order to evaluate the pollution level in the metropolitan area, contaminated specimens were analyzed with various technique such as ICP-AES, EA, and so on. The contaminants on the surface of the distribution line or insulators were combined with approximately 10 percent of organic and 90 percent of inorganic materials. We found out that the electric facilities were affected by the contaminants on the surface of the facilities.

  • lt's a general tendency that electrical facilities of power station become a large size and increase in number because electrical facilities become big and complicated with internal industrial development and economic growth. So, electrical accidents were increased in this electrical facilities of power station. Therefore, we studied on the safety environment in power station and compared of internal and external standards.   • The energy produced by wind power generation is a clean energy product because it is acquired by using renewable resource. Wind power plants("wind farms), in Korea, have been built and operated as 345.6MW facilities from 2001 until now 2009. Nevertheless, environmental issues regarding construction of wind power plants have arisen. accordingly it is time to consider the environmental and social issues of wind power in accordance with the government's policy objectives of increased wind power production. In this study, we investigated the influence that noise and low frequency noise caused by Wind power plants have on neighborhood and residents. We also sought solutions to these issues. In order to analyze the issues of wind power facilities, we compared and examined precedents and the solutions for noise and low frequency noise in Europe, the United states and Japan. We intended to examine the influences of wind power facilities and propose alternative in dealing with these issues.

  • Since 2001, Korea government has been purchasing the generation from renewable generation facilities with the higher incentive prices than market price in order to increase the penetration of renewable energies. Generally, the incentive purchase tariff is calculated on the base of the generation cost of renewable power facilities. This paper constructs the input data for economic analysis and evaluates the generation cost of PV, wind power, LFG and small hydro power using LCCA model.

  • Korean government plans to establish large-scale horticulture facility complexes using reclaimed land in order to improve the national competitiveness of agriculture at the government level. One of the most significant problems arising from the establishment of those large-scale horticulture facilities is that these facilities still largely depend on a fossil fuel and they require 24 h a day heating during the winter season in order to provide the necessary breeding conditions for greenhouse crops. These facilities show large energy consumption due to the use of coverings with large heat transmission coefficients such as vinyl and glass during heating in the winter season. This study investigated the applicability of waste heat from power plant for large-scale horticulture facilities by evaluating the waste heat water temperature, heat loss and energy saving performance as a function of distance between power plant and greenhouse. As a result, utilizing power plant waste heat can reduce the energy consumption by around 85% compared to the conventional gas boiler, regardless of the distance between power plant and greenhouse.

  • In this study, the characteristic lifetime of power facilities such as power transformers and GIS were investigated as the basis of power facility asset management. It is difficult to obtain the operation and failure data of the facilities in Korea. Therefore, the number of failures of the electric power facilities was calculated from the operation data and hazard rate shown in the overseas literatures, and the statistical analysis was performed using the Weibull distribution function. As a result of extracting and analyzing the data of the UK National Grid for power transformers, the characteristic lifetime (scale parameter) of 116.45 years was considered to be a very appropriate value for power transformer management and can be used as a comparative data of the analysis of the domestic transformers. As for the GIS, based on the Bays and Bay-Years data and the hazard rate according to the operation years of the 123kV GIS in Germany, it is found out that the characteristic lifetime of GIS is not so meaningful. It is necessary to decide a maintenance strategy and lifetime expectancy considering the characteristics of the design, materials and manufacturing process of GIS.
