For automatic power control of KMRR, a new method, Reactivity Constraint Method, is applied for time optimal control. This method limits the net reactivity to the amount that can be offset by instantaneous control rod action. The reactivity to be constrained for the constant reactor period should be obtained by the dynamic period equation. A new formulation of the dynamic period equation for 2-point kinetics model is presented. A methematical controller model was applied to the plant simulator, KMRSIM to test this control law. The performance test showed that reactivity constraint approach is also a reliable means for reactor power change control.

In communication systems the solution of the problem of maximizing the mutual information between the input and output of a channel composed of several subchannels under total power constraint has a waterfilling structure. OFDM and MIMO can be decomposed into parallel subchannels with CSI. Waterfilling solves the problem of optimal power allocation to these subchannels to achieve the rate approaching the channel capacity under total power constraint. In waterfilling, more power is alloted to good channels(high SNR) and less or no power to bad channels to increase the rate of good channels, resulting in channel capacity. Waterfilling finds the exact water level satisfying the power constraint employing an iterative algorithm to estimate and update the water level. In this process computation of partial sums of inverse of square of subchannel gain is repeatedly required. In this paper we reduced the computation time of waterfilling algorithm by replacing the partial sum computation with reference to an array which contains the precomputed partial sums in initialization phase.
In remote islands, due to expense of existing generation systems, installation of photovoltaic cells (PVs) and wind turbines has a chance of reducing generation costs. However, in island power systems, even short-term power fluctuations change the frequency of grids because of their small inertia constant. In order to compensate power fluctuations, the authors proposed the power consumption control of pumps which send water to tanks. The power control doesn’t affect water users’ convenience as long as tanks hold water. Based on experimental characteristics of a pump system, this paper shows methods to determine reference power consumption of the system with compensation for short-term PV fluctuations while satisfying water demand. One method uses a PI controller and the other method calculates reference power consumption from water flow reference. Simulations with a PV and a pump system are carried out to find optimum parameters and to compare the methods. Results show that both PI control method and water flow calculation method are useful for satisfying the water demand constraint. The water demand constraint has a little impact to suppression of the short-term power fluctuation in this condition.

This paper investigates the capacity for the secondary user with the primary full duplex relay (FDR) network in spectrum sharing systems. For sharing the spectrum of the primary user, sharing scheme under the various primary network should be investigated. However, the conventional works only consider the point-to-point primary communication system. When the FDR node is used for the primary networks, both primary relay and destination suffer the interference from the secondary transmitter simultaneously. Thus, the strict interference constraint should be considered to share the spectrum of the primary user. Therefore, we investigate the capacity of the secondary user with the primary FDR network under the average and peak received-power constraints. In addition, we analyze the performance degradation by the selection of the worst interference channels to consider interference constraint in this system. Through the numerical results, the capacities of the primary and secondary users under the average received-power is superior to the that under the peak received-power constraint.
Since the carrier sequence is not reproducible in a period of the random carrier pulse width modulation (RCPWM) and a higher harmonic spectrum amplitude is likely to affect the quality of the power supply. In addition, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and mechanical vibration will appear. To solve these problems, this paper has proposed an optimal RCPWM based on a genetic algorithm (GA). In the optimal modulation, the range of the random carrier frequency is taken as a constraint and the reciprocal of the maximum harmonic spectrum amplitude is used as a fitness function to decrease the EMI and mechanical vibration caused by the harmonics concentrated at the carrier frequency and its multiples. Since the problems of the hardware make it difficult to use in practical engineering, this paper has presented a hardware system. Simulations and experiments show that the RCPWM is effective. Studies show that the harmonic spectrum is distributed more uniformly in the frequency domain and that there is no obvious peak in the wave spectra. The proposed method is of great value to research on RCPWM and integrated power systems (IPS).
This paper considers a wideband cognitive radio network which can simultaneously sense multiple narrowband channels and thus aggregate the detected available channels for transmission and proposes a novel cognitive radio system that exhibits improved sensing throughput and can save power consumption of secondary user (SU) compared to the conventional cognitive radio system studied so far. More specifically, under the proposed cognitive radio system, we study the problem of designing the optimal sensing time and power allocation strategy, in order to maximize the ergodic throughput of the proposed cognitive radio system under two different schemes, namely the wideband sensing-based spectrum sharing scheme and the wideband opportunistic spectrum access scheme. In our analysis, besides the average interference power constraint at primary user, the average transmit power constraint of SU is also considered for the two schemes and then a subgradient algorithm is developed to obtain the optimal sensing time and the corresponding power allocation strategy. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to verify the performance of the two proposed schemes.

In this paper, a full-duplex NOMA relaying based underlay device-to-device (D2D) communication scheme is proposed, in which D2D transmitter assists cellular downlink transmission as a full-duplex relay. Specifically, D2D transmitter receives signals from base station and transmits the superposition signals to D2D receiver and cellular user in NOMA scheme simultaneously. Furthermore, we investigate the power allocation under the proposed scheme, aiming to maximize D2D link's achievable transmit rate under cellular link's transmit rate constraint and total power constraint. To tackle the power allocation problem, we first propose a power allocation method based on linear fractional programming. In addition, we derive closed-form expressions of the optimal transmit power for base station and D2D transmitter. Simulation results show that the performance of two solutions matches well and the proposed full-duplex NOMA relaying based underlay D2D communication scheme outperforms existing full-duplex relaying based D2D communication scheme.

This paper suggests that resource allocation algorithm in multiuser orthogonal frequncy divisioin multiplexing (OFDM). The proposed algorithm considers throughput maximization with power constraint and quality of service (QoS) constraint. This problem has a optimal solution with using well known water-filling algorithm but the algorithm requires high computational complexity. Therefore the problem needs a sub-optimal algorithm for decreasing computational complexity. We propose a sub-optimal joint subcarrier and power allocation algorithm for multiuser OFDM system and compare with previous resource allocation algorithm.
This paper presents an algorithm for optimal reactive power dispatch problem based on Improved Genetic Algorithm(IGA). Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) is particularized to the minimization of transmission line losses by suitable selection of generator reactive power outputs and transformer tap setting. For the objective, in this paper, Loss Re-Distribution Algorithm(LRDA) is new applied to the equality constraint of ORPD. The proposed method has been evaluated on the IEEE 30 bus system. Results of the application of the method are compared with a base case.

In this paper, we investigate the power allocation for cognitive relay networks. Cognitive relay networks offer not only increasing spectral efficiency by spectrum sharing but also extending the coverage through the use of relays. For spectrum sharing, conventional works have assumed that secondary users know perfect channel information between the secondary and primary users. However, this channel information may be outdated at the secondary user because of the time-varying properties or feedback latency from the primary user. This causes the violation for interference constraint, and the secondary user cannot share the spectrum of the primary after all. To overcome this problem, we propose the power allocation scheme for the secondary user under the allowable primary user's outage probability constraint. Since the proposed power allocation scheme does not use the instantaneous channel information, the secondary users have lower feedback burden. In addition, the proposed scheme is also robust to the outdated channel environment.
