In order to improve the reliability of XLPE cables, it is necessary to find the useful diagnostic parameter according to long term aging. This paper described the change of partial discharge(PD) phase Properties of XLPE cable insulation with branch type electrical tree degradation. for long term aging. To understand the PD Properties with $\phi$ -q-n distributed shape of XLPE insulation, specimens were prepared by 22.9㎸ distribution cable and made in a type of block(16${\times}$16${\times}$3[mm]). Ogura needles having tip radius of l0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were inserted into each block pieces. The measuring system was consisted of PD detector, digitizer for digital conversion, VXI system for signal processing. The PD properties of the specimens were measured from initiation of tree to breakdown and their characteristics were analyzed. We analyzed the relationship between electrical properties(PD Quantity, PD initiation angle, PD extinction angle, PD occurrence angle : (PD extinction angle - PD initiation angle)) and the normalized aging rate. We found PD parameter, PD initiation angle and occurrence angle, which are a useful diagnostic parameter in estimating the branch type electrical tree for XLPE insulation condition.

Renewable energy resources are rapidly becoming an integral part of electricity generation portfolios around the world due to declining costs, government subsidies, and corporate sustainability goal. Interacting wind, solar, and load forecast errors can create significant unpredictable impacts on the distribution system, feeder congestion, voltage standard and reactive power stability margins. These impacts will be increasing with the increasing penetration levels of variable renewable generation in the power systems. There is a limit to the maximum amount of renewable energy sources that can be connected in a distribution feeder by the connection rule of transmission & distribution facility in Korea. This study represents the decision plans of hosting capacity for distribution feeders without the need for significant upgrades to the existing transmission infrastructure. Especially, the paper suggests and discusses the hosting capacity standard of feeder cables and minimum load calculation of distribution feeders.

The Internet of Things (IoT) device is a key component for Industry 4.0, which is the network in homes, factories, buildings, and infrastructures to monitor and control the systems. To demonstrate the IoT network, batteries are widely utilized as power sources, and the batteries inevitably require repeated replacement due to their limited capacity. Magneto-mechano-electric (MME) generators are one of the candidate to develop self-powered IoT systems since MME generators can harvest electricity from stray alternating current (AC) magnetic fields arising from electric power cables. Herein, we report a magneto-mechano-triboelectric generator enabled by a ferromagnetic-ferroelectric composite. In the triboelectric nylon matrix, a ferromagnetic carbonyl iron powder (CIP) was introduced to induce magnetic force near the AC magnetic field for MME harvesting. Additionally, a ferroelectric ceramic powder was also added to the MME composite material to enhance the charge-trapping capability during triboelectric harvesting. The final ferromagnetic-ferroelectric composite-based MME triboelectric harvester can generate an open-circuit voltage and a short-circuit current of 110 V and 8 μA, respectively, which were enough to turn on a light emitting diode (LED) and charge a capacitor. These results verify the feasibility of the MME triboelectric generator for not only harvesting electricity from an AC magnetic field but also for various self-powered IoT applications.

Since the domestic utility tunnels were built mainly in the development project of the new city, they are all in the form of cut-and-cover box tunnel. But, in the case of overseas construction of utility tunnels for existing urban areas, the bored tunnel types are mainly adopted. It is reasonable to install bored tunnels in a downtown area because it is difficult to block the roads or install bypass roads due to heavy traffic and civil complaints. In order to activate the utility tunnels in bored type, it is necessary to secure optimized cross-sectional design technology considering the optimal supplying capacity and mutual influencing factors (Thermal Interference, electrolytic corrosion, efficiency of the maintenance, etc.) of utilities (power cables, telecommunication cables, water pipes, etc.). The optimal cross-section design method for bored utility tunnels is ultimately to derive the optimal arrangement technique for the utilities. In order to develop the design methods, firstly, the cases of tunnel cross-section (Shield TBM, Conventional Tunneling) in overseas shall be investigated to analyze the characteristics of the installation of utilities in the section and installation of auxiliary facilities, It is necessary to sort out and analyze the criteria related to the inner cross-section design (arrangement) presented in the standards and guidelines.

In this work, wrapping conductors with thin magnetic materials is proposed as a magnetic shielding method. The 0.1 mm thick metal sheets of mu-metal, grain-oriented electrical steel, and non-oriented electrical steel were produced from commercial alloy sheets through cold rolling and followed high temperature annealing. In case of 3-phase electric currents, mu-metal was the best in shielding performance at a B-field magnitude of about 100 ${\mu}T$, whereas silicon steels were better than mu-metal at a B-magnitude over 500 ${\mu}T$. In addition, wrapping with silicon steel(inner) together with mu-metal(outer) resulted in a shielding factor less than 0.1 even at 500 ${\mu}T$. These results are due to changes in hierarchy of magnetic permeabilities of the materials with increasing magnetic field strength. In case of single-phase electric current, B-magnitude outside the magnetic shell was rather increased compared to the unshielded case. This result is explained by vector composition of B-fields near magnetic shielding materials.
From the beginning of the construction stage, the fire protection regulation for the nuclear power plants conforms to the design requirements for the acquisition of the license permit. This regulation is based on the plant status of the normal operation, but it is not enough to be used as an application standard for fire protection at the transient mode of the plant and the outage time for refueling as well as for the plant decommissioning. While the advanced fire protection requirement that has been developed in America recently suggests the performance-based requirement and management rule applicable to the overall life time of the plant, it simply represents the conceptual application. It means that it can not be treated as appropriate standards because it does not deal with the qualitative and quantitative approach in specific ways. By the way, with the use of the performance-based fire risk analysis, the dynamic behavior of the heat and smoke at the fire compartment of the nuclear power plants can be analyzed and the thermal effect to the safety-related equipment and cables can be evaluated as well. At this paper, it suggests the ways to change the applicable fire protection regulations and the required evaluation items for the fire risk resulted from the plant configuration change with an intent to introduce the state-of-the-art quantitative fire risk analysis technology at the domestic nuclear power plants.

This study performed an assessment of wave power potential in the Kangwon and Dongnam regions encompassing the East Sea and part of South Sea. Annual electricity production and economic effects of 28 wave energy converters with 750kW capacity were analyzed using significant wave height and peak wave period data(created from the NOAA's NWW3 model) and InVEST software(developed by Stanford University and University of Minnesota). Annual electricity production was estimated to be up to 1,207MWh/year and at least 163MWh/year. The spatial pattern of annual electricity production showed that the sea far from land has higher wave power potential than the sea near coast. The net present value(NPV) of 28 wave energy converters was calculated by considering an operation period of 25 years. When assuming that the electricity produced from wave energy converters is transferred to onshore power plants through underwater cables, the NPV was estimated to be up to 5,883USD(6,600,000KRW) and at least -63,494USD(-71,000,000KRW). In contrast, the NPV increased up to 28,095 USD(31,600,000KRW) when assuming that the electricity is utilized in the Ulleungdo and Dokdo. In addition, it was found that the break-even line of NPV in the East Sea becomes closer towards the land according to the increment of electricity price. The NPV of wave energy converters near the Ulleungdo and Dokdo will be 88,158 USD(99,000,000KRW) if the increment of electricity price is 100KRW.

Brillouin backscatter is a type of reflection that occurs when light is shone into an optical fibre. Brillouin reflections are very sensitive to changes in the fibre arising from external effects, such as temperature, strain and pressure. We report here several case studies on the measurement of strain using Brillouin reflections. A mechanical bending test of an I beam, deployed with both fiber optic sensors and conventional strain gauge rosettes, was performed with the aim of evaluating: (1) the capability and technical limit of the DTSS technology for strain profile sensing; (2) the reliability of strain measurement using fiber optic sensor. The average values of strains obtained from both DTSS and strain gauges (corresponding to the deflection of I beam) showed a linear relationship and an excellent one-to-one match. A practical application of DTSS technology as an early warning system for land sliding or subsidence was examined through a field test at a hillside. Extremely strong, lightweight, rugged, survivable tight-buffered cables, designed for optimal strain transfer to the fibre, were used and clamped on the subsurface at a depth of about 50cm. It was proved that DTSS measurements could detect the exact position and the progress of strain changes induced by land sliding and subsidence. We also carried out the first ever distributed dynamic strain measurement (10Hz) on the Korean Train eXpress(KTX) railway track in Daejeon, Korea. The aim was to analyse the integrity of a section of track that had recently been repaired. The Sensornet DTSS was used to monitor this 85m section of track while a KTX train passed over. In the repaired section the strain increases to levels of 90 microstrain, whereas in the section of regular track the strain is in the region of 30-50 microstrain. The results were excellent since they demonstrate that the DTSS is able to measure small, dynamic changes in strain in rails during normal operating conditions. The current 10km range of the DTSS creates a potential to monitor the integrity of large lengths of track, and especially higher risk sections such as bridges, repaired track and areas at risk of subsidence.

This paper presents a 270/540/750/1500-Mb/s serial-data transmitter realized in a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology for the applications of video data transmission. A low-cost RG-58 copper cable(5C-HFBT-RG6T) is exploited as a transmission medium connected to a single BNC connector, which shows cable loss 45 dB in maximum at 1.5 GHz. RLGC modeling provides an equivalent circuit for SPICE simulations of which characteristics are very similar to the measured cable loss. The loss can be compensated by pre-emphasis at transmitter and equalization at receiver if needed. Measurements of the proposed transmitter chip demonstrate the operations of 270-Mb/s, 540-Mb/s, 750-Mb/s and 1.5-Gb/s, and provide the output voltage levels of $370mV_{pp}$ at 1.5 Gb/s even with the pre-emphasis turned-off. The total power consumption is 104 mW from 1.2/3.3-V supplies and the chip occupies the area of $1.65{\times}0.9mm^2$.

The research investigates the identification of necessary geographic information needed by forest fire suppression helicopter pilots, and the ways to acquire the required information from public institutions. Firefighting helicopter pilots demand 7 physical geographic and 13 human geographic data. Applying the geographical information acquired from Korean public institutions, the following 15 characteristics (3 physical geographic, 12 human geographic) can be found: altitude and highlands, river, high population and urban areas, roads, national park and state boundaries, fuel re-supply facilities, freshwater areas, cultural assets, (LPG)gas charging stations, gas stations, ammunition storage areas, ground power cables, and steel towers. Within the database of physical geography, there is a need for improvement on bird habitat details. Also, the availability of visibility, wind directions, and wind velocity data is limited and therefore requires refining. The location of refueling areas can be obtained by applying information received from institutions to the GIS spatial analysis.
