Si-ZnO n-n heterojunction diodes were prespared by r.f diode sputtering of the sintered ZnO target on n-type Si single crystal wafers and their structures and electrical properties were studied. The films were grown orientedly with the c-axis of crystallites perpendicular to the substrate surface at low r.f. powder and grown to polycrystalline films with random orientation at high r. f. powder. The crystallite size increased with the increasing substrate temperture The oriented texture films only were used to prepare the photovoltaic diodes and these didoes showed the photovoltaic effect veing positive of the ZnO side for the photons in the wavelength range of 380-1450nm. The sign reversal of phootovoltage which is the property os isotype heterojunction was not observed because of the degeneration of the ZnO films. The diode showed the forward rectification when it was biased with the ZnO side positive. The current-voltage characteristics exhibited the thermal-current type relationship J∝exp(qV/nkT) with n=1.23 at the low forward bias voltage and the tunnelling-current type relationship J∝exp($\alpha$V) where $\alpha$ was constant independent of temperature at the high forward bias voltage. The crystallite size of ZnO films were influenced largely on the photovoltaic properties of diodes ; The diodes with the films of the larger crystallites showed the poor photovoltaic properties. This reason may be cosidered that the ZnO films with the large crystallites could not grow to the electrically continuous films because the thickness of films was so thin in this experiment.
In an effort to encourage the development of value added engineered applications for small diameter round timber, research is being conducted to develop and verify design guidelines for connections with specific application to round timbers. The objective of this research is to provide potential users with a number of viable connection options applicable in the fabrication of engineered, round wood structural components and systems. Target uses include trusses, built up flange beams and space frames. This paper presents information on a mortised steel plate connection fabricated using powder driven nails in 6 cm diameter Japanese Larch. The design load for PDN connections are around 1.3 kN per nail with strip and 0.8 kN per nail without stripe. The design model for PDN connectors could be chosen by the number of nails. If the number of nails are more than the critical number between nail bearing and wood failure, the wood failure model could be the way to design the structure safely. The wood failure model needs to be studied more but the model could be the tensile and cleavage mixed failure model.

Adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator (ADR) for hydrogen re-liquefaction operating between 24 K and 20 K has been designed. $Dy_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}Ni_2$, whose Curie temperature is 24 K, is selected as a magnetic refrigerant. The magnetic refrigerant powder is sintered with oxygen-free high purity copper (OFHC) powder to enhance its effective thermal conductivity as well as to achieve relatively high frequency. A perforated plate heat exchanger (PPHE) operated with forced convection is utilized as a heat switch. The forced convection heat switch is expected to have fast response relative to a conventional gas-gap heat switch. A conduction-cooled high Tc superconducting (HTS) magnet is employed to apply external magnetic field variation on a magnetic refrigerant. $2^{nd}$ generation GdBCO coated conductor HTS tape with Kapton$^{(R)}$ insulation (SUNAM Inc.) will be utilized for the HTS magnet. The magnetization and demagnetization processes are to be achieved by the AC operation of the HTS magnet. The designed magnetic field and target ramp rate of the HTS magnet are over 4 T with 180 A and 0.4 T/s, respectively. AC loss distribution on HTS magnet is theoretically estimated.

1mm-thick BLT ceramics were sintered in accordance with a bulk ceramic fabrication process. All XRD peaks detected in the sintered ceramics were indexed as the Bi-layered perovskite structure without secondary phases. Density was increased with increasing the sintering temperature up to $1050\;^{\circ}C$ and the maximum value was about 98% of the theoretical density. The remanent polarization (2Pr) value of BLT ceramic sintered at $1050\;^{\circ}C$ was approximately $6.5\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ at the applied voltage of 4.5kV. From these results, a BLT ceramic target for plused laser deposition (PLD) system was successfully fabricated.
As a process for commercial application, production of reducing sugar, antioxidant, and DNA protective compounds from shrimp-shell powder was investigated in a fed-batch biodegradation using Bacillus cereus EW5. The fed-batch biodegradation was operated in a 5-L bioreactor for 96 h according to three times pulse-feeding strategy. On the basis of the equal working volume (3 L), the fed-batch biodegradation showed a better production of the target compounds than the batch biodegradation, with higher cell density and shortened biodegradation period. The maximum values of the target compounds were 0.297 mg/mL of reducing sugar, 92.35% DPPH radical scavenging activity, 98.16% ABTS radical scavenging activity, and 1.55 reducing power at $A_{700}$, which were approximately 12.1, 3.4, 5.2, and 8.4% enhanced, respectively, compared with those obtained from the batch biodegradation. The fed-batch culture supernatant also showed the enhanced DNA damage inhibition activity than the batch culture supernatant. As a result, the fed-batch biodegradation accompanied by high cell density could produce more useful compounds, enabling an increase in the reutilization value of shrimp-shell waste.

Gallium Oxide (Ga2O3) has been widely investigated for the optoelectronic applications due to its wide bandgap and the optical transparency. Recently, with the development of fabrication techniques in nanometer scale semiconductor materials, there have been an increasing number of extensive reports on the synthesis and characterization of Ga2O3 nano-structures such as nano-wires, nanobelts, and nano-dots. In contrast to typical vaporliquid-solid growth mode with metal catalysts to synthesis 1-dimensional nano-wires, there are several difficulties in fabricating the nanostructures by using sputtering techniques. This is attributed to the fact that relatively low growth temperatures and higher growth rate compared with chemical vapor deposition method. In this study, Ga2O3 chestnut burr were synthesized by using radio-frequency magnetron sputtering method. In contrast to typical sputtering method with sintered ceramic target, a Ga2O3 powder (99.99% purity) was used as a sputtering target. Several samples were prepared with varying the growth parameters, especially he growth time and the growth temperature to investigate the growth mechanism. Samples were characterized by using XRD, SEM, and PL measurements. In this presentation, the details of fabrication process and physical properties of Ga2O3 nano chestnut burr will be reported.

Thin films of cubic $Na_{0.6}WO_3$, which is one of the sodium tungsten bronze, were fabricated by rf sputtering for the electrode applications in integrated sensors and actuators. A single-phase cubic $Na_{0.6}WO_3$ sputtering target of power type was prepared by conventional solid-state reaction. Thin films were deposited from the powder target, and the as-deposited films were amorphous, thus they annealed by tube furnace or RTP for crystallization. Thin films having cubic phase $Na_xWO_3$ were fabricated by the optimization of sputtering and post-annealing conditions, but single-phase cubic $Na_{0.6}WO_3$ thin films were not obtained. Although the films were not in single phase, they had good electrical conduction properties showing electrical resistivities of $10-4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ order.

This paper presents bead-based microbiocihps to detect and separate target proteins. Micro beads coated with capture proteins were introduced into a microchamber, and target proteins flowing across the chamber were bound and concentrated. The chip was connected with an external fluid system. Bead surfaces were double-coated with photo-cleavable linkers and capture proteins. The proteins bound on the beads were photo-separated under UV irradiation, and excited to be measured in fluorescence. $38{\sim}50{\mu}m$ sized polystyrene beads were used. SOGs(silicon-on-glass) were used to fabricate the microchip having glasses bonded on both sides. 100 ${\mu}m$ thick silicon channel was formed through silicon deep RIE process. The upper glass cover had holed through to have inlets and outlets fabricated by powder-blastings. In this study, biotin and streptavidin were used as capture proteins and detection proteins, respectively. The protein mixtures of streptavidin, HSA(human serum albumin) and ovalbumin were applied for selective detection test.

Direct laser vaporization of transition-metal(Co, Ni)/graphite composite pellet produced single wall carbon naotubes(SWNT) in the condensing vapor in a heated flow cylinder-type tube furnace, Transition metal/graphite composite pellet target was made by mixing graphite, Co, and Ni in 98:1:1 atomic weight ratios, pressing the mixed powder, and curing it. The target was placed in a tube furnace maintained at 1200$^{\circ}C$ and Ar inert collision gas continuously flowed into the tube. The 2nd harmonic, 532nm wavelength light from Nd-YAG laser was used to vaporize the tube. The carbon nanotubes produced by the laser vaporization were accumulated on quartz tube wall. The raw carbon nanotube materials were purified with surfactants(Triton X-100) in a ultrasonicator. These carbon nanotubes were analyzed using SEM, XRD, and Raman spectroscopic method. The carbon nanotube growth on the Ni-patterned Si substrate was investigated by the CVD process. Transition-metal, Ni and CH4 gas were used as a catalyst and a reactant gas, respectively. The structure and the phonon frequencies of the carbon nanotubes formed on the patterned Si substrate were measured by SEM and Raman spectrometer.
