  • The precursor powders with thin wall structure were prepared by spray pyrolysis from the spray solution with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, citric acid and $NH_4Cl$ flux. The $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu$ phosphor powders formed from the spray solution without organic additives and flux material had sizes of $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$ and hollow structure with high thickness at post-treatment temperature of $1,200^{\circ}C$. However, $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu$ phosphor powders formed from the spray solution with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, citric acid and $NH_4Cl$ flux had fine size and plate-like shape. The mean crystallite sizes of the phosphor powders with fine sizes were 23, 35, and 33 nm when the content of $NH_4Cl$ flux were 0, 6, 35 wt% of phosphor. The photoluminescence intensity of the phosphor powders formed from the spray solution with the optimum amount of $NH_4Cl$ flux as 35 wt% was 215% of that of the phosphor powders formed from the spray solution without flux material.

  • Platy silver powders with varied size and thickness were prepared by polyol process with $PdCl_2$ in ethylene glycol and characterized its properties and investigated the effects of reaction time, $NH_4OH$, PVP(poly-vinylpyrrolidone) and $PdCl_2$. The characteristics of the products were verified by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), high resolution transmitted electron microscopy(HR-TEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and particle size analyzer(PSA) and image analyzer. Platy silver powder was prepared about $5.5\;{\mu}m$ of size and $0.2\;{\mu}m$ at 120minute. It was found that the size of powders increased by the increasing of $NH_4OH$ and $PdCl_2$ concentrations, and the thickness of powders was decreased by increasing of PVP concentration.

  • Sustained release-microspheres and immediate release-pellets were prepared to develop a controlled release multiparticulate system containing both water soluble and insoluble dr ug. Pseudoephedrin.HCl (EPD) and terfenadine (TRF) were used as model drugs, respectively. Sustained release-EPD microspheres were prepared by solvent evaporation method using Eudragit RL or RS as a matrix combined with pH-insensitive film coating. Smaller EPD microspheres were obtained when smaller amount of Eudragit as a matrix material or larger amount of magnesium stearate as a dispersing agent was used. However the obtained microspheres did not show syfficient sustained release characteristics. About 97% of EPD was released after 1 hr irrespective of matrix material used. Subsequent coating of the microspheres with pH-insensitive polymer such as Eudragit RS or ethylcelulose (EC) resulted good sustained in 37.5, 73.3 and 92.0% release of encapsulated EPD in distilled water after 1, 3 abd 7 hr, respectively. It corresponds to mean dissolution time (MDT) of 2.3 hr, which is much larger than that of un-coated EPD microspheres (0.0048 hr). Immediate release TRF pellets were prepared by spherically agglomerated crystallization using Eudragit E as an inert matrix and methylene chloride as a liquid binder. Using Eudragit E alone as a matrix resulted in satisfactory physical properties of the pellets such as sphericity, surface texture and flowability, but led to slower release of TRF from pellets than un-modified TRF powder (MDT of 1.70 vs 1.43 hr in pH 1.2 dissolution medium). Introducing propylene glycol or sodium lauryl sulfate as an emulsifier brought about faster release of TRF from pellets (MDT of 1.14 and 0.95 hr, respectively). In conclusion, microencapsulation by solvent evaporation combined with film coating and spherically agglomerated crystallization were successfully utilized to prepare controlled release multiparticulate system composed of sustained release EPD-microspheres and immediate release TRF pellets.

  • The cultural properties are damaged by various causes according to the characteristics of material, the condition of preservation, and the period of time. Especially, biodeterioration makes lots of damages in organic properties than inorganic ones. The damages of wooden cultural properties by insects usually are caused by the three orders; Isoptera, Coleoptera, and Hymenoptera. As the result of investigation on the state of 141 buildings of wooden cultural properties in 1999, some of them were damaged by many kinds off actors; wasp, powder post beetle, cigarette beetle, termite, decay, and physical cracking. And it was found that the patterns of damages were related to species-specific habits of insects. There are several methods of pest control for the prevention of wooden cultural properties from damages caused by insects. Those are as follows; physical control, chemical control, biological control, and integrated pest management. When insects and fungi were detected at the wooden buildings, the fumigation is best treatment to stop biodeterioration. And then, wood materials also need to be treated with insecticidal and antiseptic chemicals to avoid a reinfestation, because the fumigant is volatile. The six commercial chemicals which are applied to the insecticidal and antiseptic treatment of wooden cultural properties were purchased to test their abilities. According to the comparative results of efficacy of them in laboratory, chemical D showed excellent efficacy in all items, including antiseptic and termiticidal items. The goal of these pest controls is to protect wooden buildings from insects and microorganisms. The most effective method used currently is chemical control(fumigation, insecticidal and anticeptic chemical treatment), but it has to be treated periodically to control pest effectively. Recently environmentally-friendly control methods such as bait system or biological treatments are replacing traditional barrier treatments using large amounts of chemicals. Especially, termite is a social insect which makes a colony. Although a building with fumigation treatment is safe for a while, once attacked building has a risk of damage by reinfestation of termite. Therefore, to control termites from damaged building, the entire colony including reproductives(queen and king) and larvae around buildings must beeliminated. Bait system can be used as a preventive measure in early detection of them through termites colony monitoring and baiting. It would be the most effective for termite control if bait system would be used together with the chemical controls.

  • In order to utilize sea mustard, Undaria pinnatifida, effectively. sea mustard jam was prepared by use of physical properties of polysaccharides, mainly alginic acid and then its chemical composition, nutritive qualifies and the stability of pigments were examined. Suitable processing condition for sea mustard jam was as fellows : as the first stage, fresh sea mustard was scalded for 20 sec at $85^{\circ}C$ and dried sea mustard was dipped for 20 min in cold water for rehydration, then both sea mustards were treated by draining and chopping. Next, after adding 4 fold of $0.5\%\;K_2HPO_4$ solution to weight of chopped sea mustards, the mixed solutions were agitated for 15 min at $95^{\circ}C$, and gelated sea mustards were filterated by pressing. Flow characteristics of those sea mustard jam were regarded mixed type having pseudoplastic type and yield stress. Judging from sensory evaluation, adding $0.375\%$ of saccharin, $2\%$ of sorbitol, $0.25\%$ of citric acid and $0.5\%$ of powder of roasted soybean to sea mustard jam were suitable for enhancing taste and flavor of product. Chemical composition of products were scarcely changed throughtout processing. Jam processed by fresh sea mustard was better than dried one in contents of chlorophyll and total carotenoid pigments. In fatty acid composition, polyenoic acids of $C_{18:3},\;C_{20:4},\;C_{20:5},\;C_{22:6}$ were held high contents as known to have lowering function of cholesterol contents. It was presumed that dominant contents in free amino acids such as lysine, alanine, glutamic acid and organic acids such as citric acid, oxalic acid, $\alpha-ketoglutaric$ acid, lactic acid and succinic acid held important role for the flavor of sea mustard jam.

  • An objective of this study is to compare the characteristics of coating layer of plasma sprayed fine $Al_2O_3$ and those of layer by commercial $Al_2O_3$(Metco 105). The microstructure of fine $Al_2O_3$ coating layer was denser compared with commercial $Al_2O_3$ coating layer. The surface roughness$(R_a)$ of the layer by the fine $Al_2$O$_3$ was lower compared with that of commercial $Al_2O_3$. Thickness of splat for fine $Al_2O_3$ was $1.4\mu\textrm{m}$ while the commercial $Al_2O_3$ was $3.53\mu\textrm{m}$. The main phase existing in coating layer was of $\gamma-Al_2O_3$ and the fraction of $\alpha-Al_2O_3$ in fine $Al_2O_3$ coating layer was 8.39% and that of commercial $Al_2O_3$ was 13.79%. Microhardness was no great difference between the fine and commercial $Al_2O_3$ but deviation of the fine $Al_2O_3$ coating layer was relatively large. Accordingly, the strength of splat of the coating was expected that fine $Al_2O_3$was lower than commercial $Al_2O_3$ powder.

  • $CuInS_2$ thin films were prepared using a sol-gel spin-coating method. That makes large scale substrate coating, simple equipment, easy composition control available. The structural and optical properties of $CuInS_2$ thin films that include less toxic materials (S) instead of Se, tetragonal chalcopyrite structure. Copper acetate monohydrate ($Cu(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}H2O$) and indium acetate ($In(CH_3COO)_3$) were dissolved into 2-propanol and l-propanol, respectively. The two solutions were mixed into a starting solution. The solution was dropped onto glass substrate, rotated at 3000 rpm, and dried at $300^{\circ}C$ for Cu-In as-grown films. The as-grown films were sulfurized inside a graphite container box and chalcopyrite phase of $CuInS_2$ was observed. To determine the optical properties measured optical transmittance of visible light region (380~770 nm) were less than 30 % in the overall. The XRD pattern shows that main peak was observed at Cu/In ratio 1.0 and its orientation was (112). As annealing temperature increases, the intensity of (112) plane increases. The unit cell constant are a = 5.5032 and c = 11.1064 $\AA$, and this was well matched with JCPDS card. The optical transmittance of visible region was below than 30 %.

  • Three mold strains, Aspergillus oryzae (AOFAG), Aspergillus kawachii (AKFAG), and Monascus purpureus (MPFAG) were used for fermentation of Angelica gigas Nakai powder. The contents of polyphenolic compounds, flavonoids, minerals, decursin and decursinol angelate and the activities of DPPH (${\alpha},{\alpha}'$-diphenyl-$\beta$-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging, reducing power, and tyrosinase were measured. The highest contents of phenolic compound and flavonoid were NFAG at 2.78% and MPFAG at 1.18%, respectively. Major minerals were K, Mg, Fe, Na and Ca. Decursin and decursinol angelate were the major ingredients of Angelica gigas according to HPLC analysis. Decursin area was higher in all fermented Angelica gigas than in NFAG. The activities of free radical scavenging and tyrosinase were stronger in all fermented Angelica gigas than NFAG. However, the Fe/Cu reducing powers were stronger in NFAG than all fermented Angelica gigas. Overall, these results may provide the basic data needed to understand the biological activities and chemical characteristics of Angelica gigas fermented by mold for the development of functional foods.

  • This study is aimed to derive the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement types (blast-furnace slag cement and belite cement) and to propose the basic data to field construction work after evaluating the quality properties. Specially, lime stone powder (LSP) as binder and viscosity agent are used in the combined self compacting concrete because slurry wall of an underground LNG storage tank should be kept stability of quality during concrete working. Replacement ratio of LSP is determined by confined water ratio test and main design factors including fine aggregate ratio ($S_r$), coarse aggregate ratio ($G_v$) and water-cement ratio (W/C) are selected. Also, quality properties including setting time, bleeding content, shortening depth and hydration heat on the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement type are compared and analyzed. As test results, the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement type is as followings. 1) Slag cement type-replacement ratio of LSP 13.5%, $S_r$ 47% and W/C 41%. 2) Belite cement type-replacement ratio of LSP 42.7%, Sr 43% and W/C 51%. But optimum coarse aggregate ratio is 53% regardless of cement types. Also, as test results regarding setting time, bleeding content, shortening depth and hydration heat of the combined self compacting concrete by cement type, belite cement type is most stable in the quality properties and is to apply the actual construction work.

  • A grouting method has been widely used in construction of large-scale structure to reduce permeability and reinforce the ground. If cement and grout material were not mixed well in the injection tip equipment, an opposite flow and interception state of the chemical grouting can occur. McG (Multi-mixing counterflow prevented Grouting, McG) method installed a special grouting device to allow better mixing of the grouting material(above fineness $6,000cm^2/g$) and prevent backward flow. The block of nozzle also diversify powder rate of cement. YSS (Youngil Special Silicate, YSS) that lowers $Na_2O$ and thereby increases durability was developed by gel-forming reaction material. The seepage state and unconfined compressive strength of the injection material using the special injection tip equipment was tested in this study. The results of this study showed that the uniaxial compressive strength, permeability, N-value, TCR and RQD were improved by this method. Engineering characteristics obtained by the special injection tip method will be compared with those by the other method through various field tests from now on.
