Effect Analysis in Laser Metal Deposition of SKD61 by Track Pitch (트랙 이행거리에 따른 SKD61 재질의 레이저 메탈 디포지션 기초 특성 분석)

  • In this study, AISI M2 powder was selected primarily through various literature in order to improve the hardness and wear resistance. Among the laser metal deposition parameters, laser power was studied to improve the deposition efficiency in the laser metal deposition using a diode pumped disk laser. SKD61 hot work steel plate and AISI M2 powder were used as a substrate and powder for laser metal deposition, respectively. Fixed parameters are CTWD, focal position, travel speed, powder feed rate, etc. Experiments for the laser metal deposition were carried out by changing laser power. Through optical micrographs analysis of cross-section in LMD track, effect of the major parameters were predicted by track pitch. As the track pitch increased, so the reheated zone width, the overlap width and the minimum thickness was decreased. The hardness was decreased in the HAZ area, the hardness in the reheated HAZ area was decreased significantly and regularly in particular.

  • Metal sulfide powders such as MnS, $MoS_2$ and FeS are simply used to the machinery processing improvement agent and solid lubricant in powder metallurgy industrial. And then, metal sulfide powders have received relatively little attention from powder metallurgy. Recently, the portable machine is one of the important interfaces between human or human and electronic machine. With the increase of the intelligent activity, the social and industrial demands for information display device and power source are increasing. The transition metal sulfide materials (FeS, ZnS) have received considerable attention due to the large variety of its electric, optical and magnetic properties. Among the metal sulfide, $FeS_2$ is appealing superior material for applications in $Li-2^{nd}$ battery because of high capacity. ZnS is also a famous phosphor material with various luminescence properties, such as photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL). So generally used in the fields of display, sensors and laser. Metal sulfide materials, therefore, are provided for most widely application in all industries. In recent years, material researchers have become increasingly interested in studying with synthesis of metal sulfide.

  • In this paper, AC reactor for PWM converter using the metal powder is introduced. Metal powder AC reactor was developed to substitute conventional iron core typed AC reactor in the PWM converter application. The characteristics of the metal powder AC reactor are analyzed and tested. A new reactor has reduced switching noise and loss.

Effect of Milling Temperature on Formation of Al-Cr-Zr Metal Powder (Al-Cr-Zr 분말형성에 미치는 밀링 온도의 영향)

  • Al-Cr-Zr metal powders were prepared by cryo-milling(-75$^{\circ}C$),ambi-milling(25$^{\circ}C$) and warm-milling(200$^{\circ}C$) to investige the effect of milling temperature. The morphogical changes and microstructural evolution of Al-6wt.%Cr-3wt.%Zr metal powder ball milling were investigated by SEM, OM and XRD. The cryo-milling at -75$^{\circ}C$ caused the more refinement of powder particle size than ambi-milling and warm-milling. The partic morpholgy of Al-Cr-Zr metal powders changed changes into spheroidal particles at 25$^{\circ}C$and spherical particles at 200$^{\circ}C$The spherical particles were formed by agglomertion and contiuous wrapping of the spheroidal particles. The calculated Al crystallite size in Al-Cr-Zr metal powders by the Scherer equation were refined rapidly for short milling time -75$^{\circ}C$compared with milling at 25$^{\circ}C$ and 200$^{\circ}C$.

  • Recently, metal additive manufacturing (AM) is being investigated as a new manufacturing technology. In metal AM, powder bed fusion (PBF) is a promising technology that can be used to manufacture small and complex metallic components by selectively fusing each powder layer using an energy source such as laser or an electron beam. PBF includes selective laser melting (SLM) and electron beam melting (EBM). SLM uses high power-density laser to melt and fuse metal powders. EBM is similar to SLM but melts metals using an electron beam. When these processes are applied, the mechanical properties and microstructures change due to the many parameters involved. Therefore, this study is conducted to investigate the effects of the parameters on the mechanical properties and microstructures such that the processes can be performed more economically and efficiently.

  • Densification behaviors of mixed metal powder under high temperature were investigated. Experimental data of mixed copper and tool steel powder with various volume fractions of Cu powder were obtained under hot isostatic pressing and hot pressing. By mixing the creep potentials of McMeeking and co-workers and of Abouaf and co-workers originally for pure powder, the mixed creep potentials with various volume fractions of Cu powder were employed in the constitutive models. The constitutive equations were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare with experimental data for densification of mixed powder under hot isostatic pressing and hot pressing. Finite element calculations by using the creep potentials of Abouaf and co-workers agreed reasonably well with experimental data, however, those by McMeeking and co-workers underestimate experimental data as observed in the case of pure metal powders.

  • Plasma Transferred arc(PTA) hard facing process has been developed to obtain an overlay weld metal having excellent wear resistance. The effect of Ti, TiSi$_{2}$ and TiC powders addition on the surface of Aluminum alloy 5083 has been investigated with PTA process. This paper describes the result of test the performance of the overlay weld metal. The result can be summarized as follows 1. Intermetallic compound is formed on surface of base metal in Ti or TiSi$_{2}$ powder but the reaction with surface of base metal is little seen in TiC powder. 2. In formation of composite layer on aluminum alloy surface by plasma transferred arc welding process, high melting ceramics like TiC powder is excellent. 3. The multipass welding process is available for formation of high density of powder. But the more number of pass, the less effect of powder, it is considered, and limits of number of pass. 4. By increasing area fraction of TiC powder on Al alloy surface, in especially TiC powder the hardness increase more than 40% area fraction and 88% shows about Hv 700.

Preparation of Low-Oxygen Ingot by Repetitive Melting and Mo Metal Powder by Hydrogen Reduction from $MoO_3$ Powder (삼산화 몰리브덴 분말로부터 수소 환원에 의한 금속 분말 및 반복 용해에 의한 저산소 잉곳 제조)

  • In this study, Mo metal powder was prepared by hydrogen reduction of Mo trioxides with different purity of 2N and 3N grades. We have obtained Mo metal powder with oxygen content of 1450 ppm by hydrogen reduction and subsequent heat treatment for degassing. Using the Mo metal powder, a low-oxygen Mo ingot was prepared by repetitive vacuum arc melting. The oxygen content of the obtained Mo ingot was less than 70 ppm after vacuum arc melting for 30 min. The purity of the Mo metal powder and the ingot was evaluated using glow discharge mass spectrometry. The purity of the respective Mo ingots was increased to 3N and 4N grades from the Mo powder of 2N and 3N grades after the repetitive vacuum arc melting. The low oxygen Mo ingot thus can be used as a raw material for sputtering targets.

Manufacturing and Filtration Performance of Microfiltration Metal Membrane Using Rolling Process (압연공정을 이용한 금속 정밀여과막의 제조 및 여과특성)

  • The manufacturing process of metal membrane made of only metal mesh and both metal mesh and powder with using rolling process have been studied. In the rolling of metal mesh, selected metal meshes were rolled with the reduction ratio of 10%, 20%, and 30%, respectively. Such rolling process resulted in the decrease of mesh pore size through reduction the cross sectional area of mesh and changing the diameter of mesh wires. Also, it enhanced the filtration ratio of rolled mesh which is almost same as the filtration ratio of upper grade unrolled mesh and the reliability of membrane by making pore size distribution become more uniform. In fabricating metal powder layer onto metal mesh, using PVA(polyvinyl alcohol) as a binder of powder, drying the metal powder layer at $100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr, and sintering it at $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr in vacuum were to be optimum conditions for obtaining good quality of metal powder layer on metal mesh with high pore density but no crack. With additional rolling of metal powder layer on metal mesh with 30% reduction before sintering, metal membrane which filtration ratio is about $0.7{\mu}m$ has been successfully manufactured.
