Three sheep fitted with rumen cannulae and abomasal cannulae were given daily 750 g (DM) of three diets consisting of straw-manure silage and barley mixture in the ratios of 75:25, 50:50 and 25:75. As the proportion of barley in the diet increased, there was an increase in the amount of OM apparently digested in the rumen and thole tract (P<.01). But ADF digestion was decreased. For the 25:75 diet the $NH_3-N$ content in the rumen showed the highest value, but the total VFA was the lowest. The rumen volume and dilution rate increased with increasing ratio of silage in diets. There were no significant differences between diets in abomasal NAN flow, and the bacterial-N for the 25:75 diet was 7.3 g N as compared with 9.2-9.6 g N for the other diets (P<.01). Rates of bacterial nitrogen synthesis in the rumen were 30.5, 24.1 and 14.9 g N per Kg OM apparently digested in the rumen for the 75:25, 50:50 and 25:75 diets, respectively.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of sea urchin shell powder on nitrogen characteristics in poultry litter by assigning ninety 1-d-old male broiler chicks (Arbor Acres) to one of 3 treatments (control, 1% sea urchin shell powder, and 1% feed additives) in 3 replicates of 10 birds each. For all treatments, the overall dry matter contents were decreased (P < 0.05) as time increased, except for at 1 week. When compared with controls, the dietary sea urchin shell powder and feed additives for 0 and 3 weeks did influence their TN contents, but not for 1, 2 and 4 weeks. The treatments with sea urchin shell powder and feed additives had a significant (P < 0.05) influence on $NH_3$-N in poultry litter compared with controls. However, at 4 weeks, no marked differences were observed in $NH_3$-N contents among treatments. Treatments with 1% sea urchin shell powder might enhance the value of poultry litter as N fertilizer.

A field experiment was carried out to compare the growth characteristics, forage yield and nutritive value of four $sorghum{\times}sudangrass$ hybrids (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) grown under application of animal manure in 1995. The application amount of animal manure were 40MT in cattle manure, 30MT/ha in swine and poultry manure. The four NLCF's recommended hybrids used in this study were Pioneer 988, TE-Haygrazer and NC+ 855 (heading type), and Jumbo(headless type). The plant height was ranged between average 219 and 234cm, regardless of animal manure type and cultivar. NC+ 855 was classified as early maturing cultivar(first heading date was 1st July), and then TE-Haygrazer(4th July), and 988 was latest maturing type(12th July) among the cultivars used. Jumbo was going on vegetative stage in this experiment. The dry matter(DM) yield of four $sorghum{\times}sudangrass$ hybrids were ranged between 11.27 and 13.92MT in cattle manure, 11.46 and 12.77MT in swine manure, and 9.70 and 13.52MT/ha in poultry manure. No significant differences in forage yield were found among the cultivars used, but the DM yield of NC+ 855(13.40 MT/ha) was slightly higher than those of 988(11.31MT), Jumbo(11.26MT) and TE-Haygrazer(11.77MT). The nutritive value of $sorghum{\times}sudangrass$ hybrids was very similar among the cultivars. The crude protein yields were 1,526kg in 988, 1,429kg in Jumbo, 1,502kg in TE-Haygrazer, and 1,659kg in NC+ 855. However, there were no significant differences in protein yield. In conclusion, there were no differences of forage yield and nutritive value among four recommended $sorghum{\times}sudangrass$ hybrids, although maturity was different among heading-type hybrids.

The generation amounts of manure and urine were total 4.57kg/head/d of 1.49kg manure/head/d and 3.08kg urine/head/d with consideration of 3 seasons and live weight. The finalized mean unit load generation of filth were estimated at BOD 199.5g/head/d, CODCr 413.5g/head/d, T-N 27.8g/head/d, T-P 5.3g/head/d with consideration of seasons and the type of stalls. The unit load generation of manure and urine from korean cow were analyzed as 10.9kg/head/day and 3.3kg/head/day, respectively. The unit load generation of manure from milch cow was analyzed to be 24.6L/head/day which was similar to the report of MOE(2006). The urine generation, 10.5L/head/day, was higher than the results from MOA(2000) and NIAR(2000), but was lower than the results from MOE(2006), NIER(1986) and KIST(1990). The unit load generation from egg layers estimated by discharged amount and concentration analysis increases in due to the difference of planting head numbers, feed stuffs and manure disposal. In case of deer unit load generation by herbivora were calculated to be higher than data from existing references because of the gap between weight per livestock and the generation amounts of manure and urine.

The aim of the present study was to examine the prevalence of thermophilic Campylobacter spp. (Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli) in soil, poultry manure, irrigation water, and freshly harvested vegetables from vegetable farms in Malaysia. C. jejuni was detected in 30.4% and 2.7% of the soil samples, 57.1 % and 0% of the manure samples, and 18.8% and 3% of the vegetable samples from farm A and farm B, respectively, when using the MPN-PCR method. Campylobacter spp. was not found in any of the irrigation water samples tested. Therefore, the present results indicate that the aged manure used by farm A was more contaminated than the composted manure used by farm B. Mostly, the leafy and root vegetables were contaminated. C. coli was not detected in any of the samples tested in the current study. Both farms tested in this study were found to be contaminated by campylobacters, thereby posing a potential risk for raw vegetable consumption in Malaysia. The present results also provide baseline data on Campylobacter contamination at the farm level.
Functional microorganisms decompose various organic matter by enzyme activity and suppress plant disease caused by pathogen. This study was conducted to isolate and select functional microorganisms with protein or carbohydrate degradation activities and antagonistic activity against turfgrass fungal pathogens for eco-friendly turfgrass management in golf course from compost containing livestock manure of poultry or swine. Totally 68 isolates collected from livestock manure compost strains were isolated and tested for their activities of amylase, protease and lipase and antagonistic activities against Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2, R. solani AG1-1, and Sclerotinia homoeocarpa. Among the isolates, 34 strains were selected as functional microbes showing higher activities of amylase and protease. Three isolates of ASC-14, ASC-18, and ASC-35 among the 34 strains were selected as antifungal bacterial strains repressing the above 3 turfgrass fungal pathogens. Analysis results of 16s rRNA gene sequence and phylogenic cluster indicated that ASC-14 and ASC-18 belonged to Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, while ASC-35 was B. subtilis, respectively.
This studies were conducted to investigated the feeding effects of extruded broiler manure(BMERF) mixture and swine manure(SFERF) mixture on laying performance and egg qualify of laying hens. As a experimental feed, broiler manure, corn and tapioca were mixed in 50, 30 and $20\%$ to use for treated extrusion feed(BMERF, Exp. 1) and food waste(FW), swine manure and com were also mixed in 40, 40 and $20\%$ to use it(SFERF, Exp. 2) and implemented during 12 weeks, four replication and 30 chick of each treatment. The nutritional ingredients(protein, energy and calcium contents) of food waste, broiler manure and swine manure had been significantly improved(p<0.05) when handling extrusion. In the Exp. 1, the feed intake was much higher BMERF $40\%$ and BMERF $20\%$ than control and BMERF $10\%(p<0.05)$, the egg production of control, BMERF $10\%$ and BMERF $20\%$ were not significantly difference(p>0.05), but BMERF $40\%$ was significantly lower(p<0.05). The feed efficiency of control and BMERF $10\%$ were not significantly difference(p>0.05), but BMERF $20\%$ and BMERF $40\%$ were significantly lower(p<0.05). York color, White height and Haugh unit did not affected by BMERF additive. In the Exp. 2, the feed intake of control, FW $20\%$, SFERF $10\%$ and SFERF $20\%$ were not significantly difference(p<0.05), but FW $40\%$ and SFERF $40\%$ were significantly higher(p<0.05). The egg production of SFERF $10\%$ and SFERF $20\%$ were not significantly difference(p>0.05) with control, but FW $20\%$, FW $40\%$ and SFERF $40\%$ were significantly lower(p<0.05). The feed efficiency was similar tendency to the egg production, however, the egg weight, york color, white height and haugh unit were not significantly difference among each treatments(p>0.05).
This study was conducted to find out the optimal aeration rates for minimizing odor emission and for increasing biological activities during composting of livestock manure in the enclosed bench-scale reactor system. It was treated with the mixture of poultry manure and sawdust controlled the initial water content of 60%, then aerated continuously at four different aeration rates (0.1, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 L/min/kg dry-solids). The average emitted concentration of ammonia in 0.6 L/min/kg dry-solids during composting reached the level of 40% in comparison with that of 0.2 L/min/kg dry-solids. In cases of sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, methylmercaptan and ethylmercaptan, their concentrations decreased with increasing aeration rates and the emission time was shortened. But they didn't detect in the treatment of 0.6 L/min/kg dry-solids. The biological activity for composting showed a trend of increasing as aeration rates increased. The treatment of 0.6 L/min/kg dry-solids gave the highest biological activity and the best compost quality.
The main objective of this research was to evaluate physicochemical properties of commercially available fertilizer manufactured with different sources (swine, cattle, poultry, and mixed manure) in Korea. Results of this research showed that average content of organics was ranged 39.11-40.78% depending on different sources with the highest value in swine manure. Average water contents in fertilizer was ordered swine > cattle > mixed > poultry, and ranged 37.00-42.16%. Total of 8 heavy metals (As, Cd, Hg, Pb, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn) were investigated and no significant difference was observed for average concentration of heavy metals depending on different sources except Zn and Cu. For both heavy metals, fertilizer manufactured with swine manure showed higher concentration (346.34 mg/kg for Zn and 117.00 mg $kg^{-1}$ for Cu) than other fertilizers mainly due to feed contents. More long term monitoring would be necessary to make best management practice for commercially available fertilizer in Korea.
This study was conducted to determine effects of composted livestock manure application on soil nutrient change. PVC pot $(30\times100cm)$ was filled with either volcanic ash soil (Gujwa series) or non-volcanic ash soil (Aewol series) and the 20 cm surface soils were applied with composted livestock manures of cattle pig and poultry at the rates of 0, 50, 100 and 150 ton/ha, respectively. After 210 days soils samples of phosphate, potassium, calcium, and magnesium affected by application of the compost. The applied composted were equivalent to the application of organic matter of $23\sim111$ ton/ha and nitrogen of $80\sim450$ ton/ha. Availability rate of phosphate after the application of composted livestock manures ranged from 1.6 to 91.7% according to the different composted. It was much higher in the non-volcanic ash soil than in the volcanic ash soil. Availability rate of potassium fractional recovery rate change ranged from 22 to 94% according to the different manures. It was larger in the composted Availability rate of calcium 38 to 93% and $9\sim90%$ in volcanic ash soil and non-volcanic ash soil, respectively, It was higher in the composted manures followed by cattle and composted pig manures. Availability rate magnesium ranged from 12 to 41% and $1\sim9%$ in volcanic ash soil and non-volcanic ash soil, respectively. The rate was higher in the composted poultry manure followed by pig and composted cattle manures.
