  • In this paper, effective thermal conductivities of water-based Al203-nanofluids with low concentration from 0.01 vol. % to 0.3 vol. % are experimentally obtained by transient hot wire method (THWM). The water-based Al203-nanofluids are manufactured by two-step method which is widely used. To examine suspension and dispersion characteristics of the water-based A1203-nanofluids, Zeta potential as well as transmission electron micrograph (TEM) is observed. We confirm the manufactured Al203-nanofluids have good suspension and dispersion. The effective thermal conductivities of the water-based Al203-nanofluids with low concentration are enhanced up to 1.64% compared with that of DI water at $21^{\circ}C$. In addition, experimental results are compared with theoretical results from Jang and Choi model.

여유 자유도 로봇의 실시간 충돌 회피 (Real-time obstacle avoidance for redundant manipulator)

  • A new approach based on artificial potential function is proposed for the obstacle avoidance of redundant manipulators. Unlike the so-called "global" path planning method, which requires expensive computation for the path search before the manipulator starts to move, this new approach, "local" path planning, researches the path in real-time using the local distance information. Previous use of artificial potential function has exhibited local minima in some complex environments. This thesis proposes a potential function that has no local minima even for a cluttered environment. This potential function has been implemented for the collision avoidance of a redundant robot in Simulation. The simulation also employ an algorithm that eliminates collisions with obstacles by calculating the repulsive potential exerted on links, based on the shortest distance to object.

CAPM을 이용한 AUV의 장애물 회피 (Obstacle Avoidance for AUV using CAPM)

  • In this paper, we designed the hybrid path generation method which is named CAPM(Continuous path generation method based on artificial Potential field) that is able to be used in the obstacles environment. This CAPM was designed so that it puts together two obstacle avoidance algorithm-the continuous path generation method(CPGM) and the artificial potential field method(APFM). Here, the CAPM generate the safety path using continuous path curvature. But, this method has demerits when used in obstacles environment in which are closely located. Another method which is named the APFM generates the path with the artificial potential field in the obstacles environment. But, It has local minima in certain places and unnecessarily calculates the path in which obstacles are not located. So, the CAPM was designed for autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV) obstacle avoidance. As the result of simulation, it was confirmed that the CAPM can be applied to a safe path generation for AUV.

효율적인 연속 충돌감지를 위한 프리즘 기반의 메쉬 컬링 기법 (Prism-based Mesh Culling Method for Effective Continuous Collision Detection)

  • 본 연구에서는 다각형 메쉬 모델들에 대한 시뮬레이션 수행시 주요 병목현상으로 제기되는 충돌감지의 효율성을 높이기 위하여, 연속 시간사이에서 이산시간 스위프트로 형성된 프리즘을 단위로 하는 효율적 메쉬 컬링 기법을 제안한다. 제안 기법에서는 우선, 연속 시간사이에서 대응되는 두 삼각형을 이용하여 프리즘을 정의하고, 프리즘 단위의 폐쇄검사(Occlusion Query) 기반 가시성 테스트(Visibility Test)를 실시하여, 교차 가능성이 없는 프리즘을 세부 충돌테스트의 대상에서 제외시킨다. 또한, 가시성 테스트 결과로 추출된 프리즘의 충돌가능 집합(PCS: Potential Colliding Set)에서 충돌 가능성이 없는 프리즘의 쌍들을 분리축 테스트(SAT: Separating Axis Test)을 기반으로 분류하는 협대역 컬링(Narrow Band Culling)을 수행한다. 분리축 테스트 시, 두 프리즘의 영역을 각각의 반공간(Half Space)에 포함시키는 평면을 정의하고 이에 수직인 주축을 정의하여, 단일 주축에 대한 분리 검사를 수행함으로써 수행 효율성을 높인다. 제안기법의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 서로 다른 크기의 벤치마크 모델을 선정하고, 제안 기법 적용 전후의 세부 층돌검사 대상 프리즘 쌍의 수를 비교하였다. 또한, 단일 주축에 대한 분리축 테스트 기반 컬링의 효율성을 입증하기 위하여, 프리즘 쌍에 대한 가시성테스트 실험 결과와 비교하였다. 2916개와 2731개의 삼각형으로 구성된 두 메쉬모델에 대한 컬링 실험에서, 제안 컬링기법 적용시 99%의 효과적인 컬링결과를 얻었다.

양력판(揚力板) 이론(理論)에 의(依)한 2차원(次元) 수중익(水中翼)의 초월(超越) 공동(空洞) 문제(問題) 해석(解析) (A Potential-Based Panel Method for the Analysis of A Two-Dimensional Super-Cavitating Hydrofoil)

  • 본 논문에서는 양력판 이론을 사용하여 2차원 수중익에 발생한 비 대칭 초월 공동 문제를 포텐셜을 기저로하여 수치 해석하였다. 수중익과 공동 표면에 법선 다이폴을 분포하고 공동 표면에는 공동 형상을 찾기위하여 쏘오스를 분포하였다. 수중익 표면에서의 운동학적 경계조건은 수중익 내부에서의 전체 포텐셜이 0이라는 조건으로 대치하였고 공동 표면에서의 역학적 경계조건은 공동 표면에서의 접선 방향 속도가 일정하다는 조건으로 표현되었다. 표면에 특이 함수를 분포하여 포텐셜을 기저로하여 공동 문제를 해석하였기 때문에 압력 분포에 대하여, 특히 수중익의 앞날 근처에서는 양력면 이론에 의한 결과보다 더욱 향상된 정도의 결과를 얻었다. 본 이론은 먼저 주어진 공동 길이에 대하여 그에 상응하는 공동 형상 및 공동수를 구하였다. 좀더 좋은 결과를 얻기 위하여 새로이 계산된 공동 표면과 수중익 표면에 또 다시 특이 함수를 분포하여 그곳에서 경계 조건을 만족시킴으로써 새로운 공동 형상 및 공동수를 구하는 반복 계산을 수행하였다. 본 이론에 의한 계산 결과의 검증을 위하여 폭 넓은 수렴성 시험을 수행하였으며 특히, Geurst의 선형 이론에 의한 해석해 및 Wu의 비 선형 이론에 의한 해석해, 그리고 Acosta, Parkin, Meijer, Silberman, Waid의 실험 결과와 비교한 결과, 본 이론의 효용성을 입증하였다.

Comparison of potential and viscous methods for the nonlinear ship wave problem

  • The two different numerical approaches for solving the nonlinear ship wave problem are discussed in the present paper. One is based on a panel method, which neglects the viscous effects. The other is based on a finite volume method, which take into account the viscous effects by solving RANS equations. Focus is laid upon on the advantages and disadvantages of two methods. The developed methods are applied to calculating the flow around Series 60 hull to validate the performance of the present nonlinear methods. Although the two methods employ quite different numerical approaches, the calculated wave patterns from both methods show good agreements with the experiments. However the potential method simu-lates the global wave pattern accurately, while the viscous method shows better performance for the local wave prediction near a ship.

  • The main objective of this paper is to develop an improved model for the analysis of liquefaction potential and to predict excess pore pressure (EPP) using the proposed model that can simulate behavior of saturated sand under earthquake loading conditions. The damage concept is adopted for the development of the proposed model. For the development of the model, a general formulation based on experimental results and damage potential using cumulative absolute velocity (CAV) is proposed for a more realistic description of dynamic responses of saturated sand. Undrained dynamic triaxial tests are conducted using earthquake loading conditions. Based on test results, the NCER-NCW function in terms of $w_d$ and CAV is developed. Procedure for the evaluation of EPP and determination of model parameters for the proposed model is presented as well. For the determination of initial liquefaction, the minimum curvature method using the NCS-NCW curve is proposed. It is observed that predicted initial liquefaction using the proposed method agrees well with measured initial liquefaction. From results of additional undrained dynamic triaxial tests, it is seen that predicted EPP generation using the proposed model agrees well with measured results for earthquake loading cases.

  • An assessment of liquefaction potential is made in principle by comparing the shear stress induced by earthquake to the liquefaction strength of the soil. In this study, a modified method based on Seed and Idriss theory is developed for evaluating liquefaction potential. The shear stress in the ground can be evaluated with seismic response analysis and the liquefaction strength of the soil can be investigated by using cyclic triaxial tests. The cyclic triaxial tests are conducted in two different conditions in order to investigate the factors affecting liquefaction strength such as cyclic shear stress amplitude and relative density. And performance of the modified method in practical examples is demonstrated by applying it to liquefaction analysis of artificial zones with dimensions and material properties similar to those in a typical field. From the result, the modified method for assessing liquefaction potential can successfully evaluate the safety factor under moderate magnitude(M=6.5) of earthquake.

  • This paper presents an improved subdomain method to predict the magnet field distributions and electromagnetic performance of the surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) machines with static or dynamic eccentricity. Conventional subdomain models are either based on the scalar magnet potential to predict the rotor eccentricity effect or dependent on the magnetic vector potential without considering the eccentric rotor. In this paper, both the magnetic vector potential and the perturbation theory are introduced in order to accurately calculate the effect of rotor eccentricity on the open-circuit and armature reaction performance. The calculation results are presented and validated by the corresponding finite-element method (FEM) results.

  • A comparative study on the turbulent flaw simulation and the potential flaw analysis has been performed. A law Mach number preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver, using the multi-block grid method and a panel method based on the velocity potential, have been developed and validated by comparison to the experimental data. The present numerical analysis methods are applied to the ground effect problem around the NACA 4412 airfoil. It has been confirmed that the potential flaw analysis on the ground effect, using the image method, is consistent, to some degree, with the viscous calculations for high Reynolds number flows.
