  • This research analyzed differences between parents and teachers in assessment of young children's potential abilities based on multiple intelligences theory. Subjects were 10 boys and 10 girls, 4 and 5 years of age and their parents and teachers. Children's potential abilities were measured by the Korean Project Spectrum(KPS) and by the assessments of parents and teachers. Data were analyzed by SPSS. Statistical methods were Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, and Pearson's and Spearman's correlations. Results revealed differences between the assessments of parents and of teachers. While teacher assessments were very similar to the results of the KPS on logical mathematical and linguistic intelligence, the results of parents' assessments were different from the results of the KPS on musical, interpersonal-intrapersonal, and naturalistic intelligence.

  • A method for determining the collision-free tool orientation for 5-axis milling is presented. In 5-axis milling, the proper tool orientation as well as the optimal CC-data has to be selected to machine the workpiece efficiently and accurately and accurately. Essentially, the tool orientation should be determined to avoid collisions between the tool and workpiece and to enable efficient machining. In this work, the tool orientation is determined at every CC-point which is assumed to be given. The procedure uses the potential energy method that assumes the tool and the part surfaces are charged with static electricity. This approach can detect can deteat both global and local collisions (gouging) irrespective of the tool shape. Further, in order to increase the machining efficiency, the material removal rate is maximized simultaneously.

  • In this talk, I will discuss roles of pseudo vector and scalar potential in changing physical properties of graphene systems. First, graphene under small uniaxial strain is shown to be described by the generalized Weyl's Hamiltonian with inclusion of pseudo vector and scalar potential simultaneously [1]. Thus, strained graphene is predicted to exhibit velocity anisotropy as well as work function enhancement without any gap. Second, if homogeneous strains with different strengths are applied to each layer of bilayer graphene, transverse electric fields across the two layers can be generated without any external electronic sources, thereby opening an energy gap [2]. This phenomenon is made possible by generation of inequivalent pseudo scalar potentials in the two graphene layers. Third, when very tiny lateral interlayer shift occurs in bilayer graphene, the Fermi surfaces of the system are shown to undergo Lifshitz transition [3]. We will show that this unexpected hypersensitive electronic topological transition is caused by a unique interplay between the effective non-Abelian vector potential generated by sliding motions and Berry's phases associated with massless Dirac electrons.

  • Earlier we have described new water-soluble Ag- and Zn-derivatives of tetrachloride meso-tetra (4-N-oxiethylpyridyl) porphyrin (TOEtPyP) as potential anticancer drugs. In this work the effect of one of these metal porphyrins, TOEtPyP Ag, on the cell population kinetics was studied in vitro using morphological and biochemical techniques. The results suggested that TOEtPyP Ag action consisted in the simultaneous suppression of the cell growth and activation of the cell death. About 40% of the cells were shown to die via apoptotic pathway. So, the porphyrin studied may be attributed to inducers of both necrotic and apoptotic processes. The results obtained support our previous assertion that TOEtPyP Ag may be considered as a potential chemotherapeutic agent.

  • The present work is an experimental investigation on potential operating range using directly injected gasoline fuel in a single-cylinder compression ignition (CI) engine. The objectives of present study were to apply auto-ignited combustion to gasoline fuel and to evaluate potential operating range. In order to auto-ignite gasoline fuel in CI engine, the fuel direct-injection system and the intake air system were modified that a flow rate and temperature of intake air were regulated. The heat-release rate (HRR), net indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP), start of combustion (SOC), and combustion duration were derived from in-cylinder pressure data in a test engine, which has 373.33cc displacement volume and 17.8 compression ratio. The exhaust emission characteristics were obtained emission gas analyzer and smoke meter on the exhaust line system.

  • In the present work, current knowledge on the potential fate, microbial degradation, and toxicity of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) was thoroughly reviewed, focusing on the toxicological assessment of a variety of potential RDX degradation pathways in bacteria and fungi. The present review on microbial degradation pathways and toxicities of degradation intermediates suggests that, among aerobic RDX degradation pathways, the one via denitration may be preferred in a toxicological perspective, and that among anaerobic pathways, those forming 4-nitro-2,4-diazabutanal (NDAB) via ring cleavage of 1-nitroso-3,5-dinitro-1,3,5-triazinane (MNX) may be toxicologically advantageous owing to its potential mineralization under partial or complete anoxic conditions. These findings provide important information on RDX-degrading microbial pathways, toxicologically most suitable to be stimulated in contaminated fields.

  • Within the framework of the modified factorization method, we solve the $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ equation with the modified Yukawa potential. The energy spectrum is obtained using the Pekeris approximation scheme for the centrifugal term. The thermodynamic properties, including the vibrational partition function, vibrational mean energy, vibrational mean free energy, vibrational specific heat capacity and vibrational entropy, are calculated. As a special case, we compare our result with that work of Dong [Int. J. Quant. Chem. 107, 366 (2007)] and find good agreement.

  • This study investigates the obstacles to implementing family-friendly policies and offering flexible work arrangements and provides policy directions. A survey was conducted of employers at 147 firms, resulting in 42-43 questionnaires being statistically analyzed. Frequencies, means and factor analysis were conducted by SPSSWIN 12.0. The findings are as follows: First, the main obstacle to implementing family-friendly policies was the burden of cost. Second, eight obstacle factors were extracted through factor analysis. They are; lack of replacement workers and concerns about equity issues, nonfamily-friendly culture, no guarantee of the effectiveness of programs, lack of information about the programs or polices, lack of communication and public relations, potential loss of productivity, administrative hassles, and structural obstacles. Third, there was a difference in implementing flexible work arrangements according to the factors of lack of replacement workers and concerns about equity issues and no guarantee of the effectiveness of programs. That is, the firms which didn't have these two obstacles tried to implement flexible work arrangements more than the others.

  • This paper examines the associations of having a helper for domestic work or childcare and time spent on it by couples in South Korea. We use five waves of panel survey data from the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families (KLoWF), which allows longitudinal changes within couples over time that account for potential selection effects and unobserved heterogeneity among individuals. With fixed effects, we find outsourcing is associated with a decrease in wife's time spent on domestic work or childcare by 1 hour per week. However, the decrease is concentrated on the unemployed wife's time, but not employed wife's time. In addition, outsourcing is not a significant factor for husband's time and the husband's share of total contribution. This may be because wives are the main provider of domestic work and childcare in Korea regardless of employment status or having any helper. Due to unequal contributions between husband and wife, using outsourcing also neither alleviates the employed wife's contribution nor changes the husband's contribution. However, the results may be underestimated because there are more common and diverse types of outsourcing in a broad sense, such as going out for dinner, buying prepared food, and using dry cleaning services. We expect future studies to consider more broad types of outsourcing and examine how relations with the couple's time use at home are different by type.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) has a lot of variations of its properties because it is basically in an amorphous state. Therefore, the differences in composition ratio of ITO can result in alteration of electrical properties. Normally, ITO is considered as transparent conductive oxide (TCO), possessing excellent properties for the optical and electrical devices. Quantitatively, TCO has transparency over 80 percent within the range of 380nm to 780nm, which is visible light although its specific resistance is less than $10-3{\Omega}/cm$. Thus, the solar cell is the best example for which ITO has perfectly matching profile. In addition, when ITO is used as transparent conductive electrode, this material essentially has to have a proper work function with contact materials. For instance, heterojunction with intrinsic thin layer (HIT) solar cell could have both front ITO and backside ITO. Because each side of ITO films has different type of contact materials, p-type amorphous silicon and n-type amorphous silicon, work function of ITO has to be modified to transport carrier with low built-in potential and Schottky barrier, and approximately requires variation from 3 eV to 5 eV. In this study, we examine the change of work function for different sputtering conditions using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). Structure of ITO films was investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Optical transmittance of the films was evaluated by using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer
