The microorganisms producing a lipoxygenase inhibitor were screened from a wide variety of sources. The isolated strain was assigned to genus Penicillium by its cultural and morphological characteristics. The proper medium for the production of lipoxygenase inhibitor was composed of glucose 3.0%, ammonium sulfate 0.4%, and potassium phosphate (dibasic) 0.1%. The cultivation for lipoxygenase inhibitor production was carried out in 500m1 Erlenmyer flasks containing 100m1 of the medium at $30^{\circ}C$ by cultivating reciprocally. The highest lipoxygenase inhibitor production was observed after 8 days of cultivation. The inhibitor was the low molecular weight substance and inhibited specifically soybean origin lipoxygenase.

In acid hydrolysis process of biomass saccharification. neutralization of acid hydrolyzate is essential step, which resulted in dissolved cations in glucose solution. Impact of cations to Kluyveromyces marxianus in glucose solution was investigated focused on ethanol fermentation. Either potassium or sodium cations decreased the ethanol fermentation and glucose to ethanol conversion. Glucose consumption by K. marxianus was delayed by increasing potassium cation concentration as completely consumed within 12 h in potassium cation 0.46 mol and 0.92 mol but within 24 h in potassium cation 1.38 mol. Also, ethanol fermentation process was slowed down with increasing concentration of the potassium sulfate. Fermentation of glucose solution to ethanol was more inhibited by sodium cation than potassium cation in glucose solution. Glucose was completely consumed within 24 h in sodium cation 0.95 mol. but at 1.90 mol or 2.84 mol in sodium cation could not finish the fermentation within 48 hour. Ethanol concentration was 22.26 g/L at low sodium cation in glucose solution with complete fermentation within 24 h. With increasing sodium cation in glucose solution, final ethanol concentration was reached at 14.10 g/L (sodium cation con) and 0.21 g/L (sodium cation con), which meant delaying of fermentation by sodium cations.
This study was discussed the dyeing of wool and nylon fabrics with Chinese Scholar Tree extract. The extracts of Chinese Scholar Tree was prepared in the condition of heating at $95{\pm}5C$, for 1 hour and cooling to 40C. And then the extracts of color matter treate with vacuum concentration at $60{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, 30mmHg and dried with spray dryer. The dyeing of wool and nylon fabric in this experiment was also employed the mordant dyeing method such as pre-mordant, post-mordant and simultaneous mordant method. The mordanting agents used in this study were as followings ; aluminium potassium sulfate, copper(II) acetate monohydrate, chromium potassium sulfate$.$$7H_2O$, Tin(II) chloride dihydrate, iron(II)sulfate $7H_2O$. For an evaluation of the dyeing property of the mordanting agents, the pre-mordant method, the repeat dyeing and the fastness of the light, dry cleaning, washing and rubbing measured respectively. From the results of the dye absorption, the optimum dyeing condition of the wool and nylon fabrics with Chinese Scholar Tree extract is at 80C dyeing temperature for 60 minutes. The optimum concentration of mordanting agent is Al, Cr, Sn 1%, Fe, Cu 2% solution. In general, the fastness property of the dyed wool and nylon fabrics had a comparatively high grade.
An experiment on strawberry (Fragaria Grandflora EHRH) was conducted in order to compare the effect of two compound fertilizers made for this crop, by Kyonggi Chemical Crop. LTD. with that of muriate of potash, sulfate of potash and ammonium nitrate in a farmer's vinylhouse during the winter period of 1984 to 1985. Results obtained are as follows; 1. The effect of compound fertilizers on the growth, number of inflorescences and yield of strawberry showed no significant difference from the effect of muriate of potash, sulfate of potash and ammonium nitrate. But the former increased the content of reduced, and total sugars soluble in diluted acid in the juice of strawberry. 2. As a whole, sulfate of potash increased sugar content in strawberry juice more than muriate of potash, which became the reason to increase the sugar content in the strawberry juice harvested from the compound fertilizer plots.
Background: Antibiotic beads are used to treat local bacterial infections by delivering high drug concentrations to infected tissue. Objectives: This study examined the elution characteristics of metronidazole from metronidazole-calcium sulfate (MCa) and metronidazole-calcium-potassium sulfate (MCaK) beads over 20 days and the antibacterial efficacy of the beads after storage. Methods: The MCa and MCaK beads were prepared by mixing 250 mg of metronidazole and 10 g of calcium sulfate hemihydrate with water and a 3% potassium sulfate solution, respectively. The beads were placed in phosphate-buffered saline for the elution study. The metronidazole eluents were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. The microstructures were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the antimicrobial activity was evaluated by a microbioassay. Results: For the 20-day study, the total amount of metronidazole released was greater in the MCa beads than in the MCaK beads by 6.61 ± 0.48 mg (89.11% ± 3.04%) and 4.65 ± 0.36 mg (73.11% ± 4.38%), respectively. The amounts of eluted drugs from the MCa and MCaK beads were higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration at 0.5 ㎍/mL against anaerobic bacteria at both 20 days and 14 days. SEM showed that calcium crystals on the outer surface had dissolved after elution, and thinner calcium crystals were prominent in the MCaK beads. The MCa and MCaK beads exhibited antibacterial activity after setting, followed by storage at room temperature or 4℃ for 21 days. Conclusions: The MCa beads could release more drug than the MCaK beads, but all eluted metronidazole amounts were effective in controlling bacterial infections. Both metronidazole beads could be stored at ambient temperature or in a refrigerator.
To investigate the effect of sulfate deposition un forest tree nutrition, 15 forest stands of Pinus thunbergii were selected throughout Yochon industrial complex, in which is influenced by chronic air pollution. Concentrations of sulfate sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium were analysed fur current and 1-year-old needles of Pinus thunbergii tree. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. Significant higher accumulation of sulfate S, computed with that of unpolluted needles, was observed at all sites, ranging front 0.11% to 0.35% in current needles, and from 0.13% to 0.32% in 1-year-old needles. 2. Ranging from 0.60% to 1.42% in current needles, and from 0.58% to 0.88% 1-year-old needles, respectively, nitrogen concentrations were significantly lower at 7 sites for current needles, and at all sites for 1-year-old needles than at unpolluted site. 3. Phosphorus and potassium levels were significantly lower at very few sites, compared with unpolluted site. 4. Calcium concentrations were significantly lower at 8 sites and 9 sites for current and 1-year old needles than at unpolluted site, ranging from 0.123% to 0.352% and from 0.201% to 0.371% in 1-year old needles, respectively. 5. Ranking from 0.077% to 0.152% in current needles, and from 0.056% to 0.105% in 1-year-old needles, magnesium concentrations were lower at only 2 sites for current needles tut at 12 sites for 1-year-old needles. 6. There were significant declines of concentrations of calcium and magnesium in current needles as sulfate accumulation increased. For 1-year-old needles, there were significant negative correlations-hips between sulfate and nitrogen, potassium, calcium, and magnesium concentration. It is concluded that deposition of sulfuric air pollutant deteriorated nutrients status, resulting in tree decline, in Pinus thunbergii forest in Yochon industrial complex.
To prepare the complex gel of flux and pseudo-boehmite used in precursor of the flaky ${\alpha}-A1_2O_3$ crystal, aqueous solution of the mixture of sodium carbonate and sodium phosphate was added with stirring in aqueous solution of the mixture of sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate and titanium sulfate. The complex gel was dried at $110^{\circ}C$ and was crystallized above $1,050^{\circ}C$, and then the effect of the amount of titanium sulfate on size, morphology, thickness and crystal size distribution of the flaky ${\alpha}-A1_2O_3$ crystal was investigated. Addition of titanium sulfate was prevented the aggregation and generation of twin crystal, and had an effect on the crystal size and the thickness during crystal growth. When the amount of titanium sulfate was more than 6 g, particle size was decreased but was free from crystal twining and aggregation. On the other hand, when the amount of titanium sulfate was lower than 6 g, crystal size was increased but crystal twinning and aggregation were noticed.
Corynebacterium glutamicum is one of the well-studied industrial strain that is used for the production of nucleotides and amino acids. Recently, it has also been studied as a possible producer of organic acids such as succinic acid, based on its ability to produce organic acids under an oxygen deprivation condition. In this study, we conducted the optimization of medium components for improved succinate production from C. glutamicum under an oxygen deprivation condition by Plackett-Burman design and applied a response surface methodology. A Plackett-Burman design for ten factors such as glucose, ammonium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, potassium phosphate ($K_2HPO_4$ and $KH_2PO_4$), iron sulfate, manganese sulfate, biotin, thiamine, and sodium bicarbonate was applied to evaluate the effects on succinate production. Glucose, ammonium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, and dipotassium phosphate were found to have significant influence on succinate production, and the optimal concentrations of these four factors were sequentially investigated by the response surface methodology using a Box-Behnken design. The optimal medium components obtained for achieving maximum concentration of succinic acid were as follows: glucose 10 g/l, magnesium sulfate 0.5 g/l, dipotassium phosphate ($K_2HPO_4$) 0.75 g/l, potassium dihydrogen phosphate ($KH_2PO_4$) 0.5 g/l, iron sulfate 6 mg/l, manganese sulfate 4.2 mg/l, biotin 0.2 mg/l, thiamine 0.2 mg/l, and sodium bicarbonate 100 mM. The parameters that differed from a normal BT medium were glucose changed from 40 g/l to 10 g/l, dipotassium phosphate ($K_2HPO_4$) 0.5 g/l changed to 0.75 g/l, and ammonium sulfate ($(NH_4)_2SO_4$) 7 g/l changed to 0 g/l. Under these conditions, the final succinic acid concentration was 16.3 mM, which is about 1.46 fold higher than the original medium (11.1 mM) at 24 h. This work showed the improvement of succinate production by a simple change of media components deduced from sequential optimization.
Polyphenol oxidase was purified from acetone powder extract of the root of Ixeris sonchifolia. The enzyme obtained by ammonium sulfate fractionation and sephadex G-200 gelfiltration gave 51-fold purification over the crude extract. The purified enzyme showed activity toward chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid and pyrocatechol. The kinetics of thermal inactivation of the enzyme followed first-order reaction. Potassium cyanide and cysteine were potent inhibitors.

The inorganic-organic composite particles with core-shell structure were polymerized by using styrene and potassium persulfate (KPS) as a shell monomer and an initiator, respectively. We studied the effect of surfactants on the core-shell structure of silicone dioxide/styrene composite particles polymerized in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS), polyoxyethylene alkylether sulfate (EU-S133D), and at none surfactant condition. We found that $SiO_2$ core / polystyrene(PS) shell structure was formed when polymerization of styrene was conducted on the surface of $SiO_2$ particles, and the concentration SDS and EU-Sl33D was $8.34{\times}10^{-2}mole/L$. The core-shell structure was confirmed by measuring the thermal decomposition of the polymer composite using thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and the morphology of the composite particles was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM).
