Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of oriental medical treatments for neonates in the Postpartum care center. Methods : This clinical study was carried out with the 186 neonates who admitted to the Postpartum Care Center of Conmaul Oriental Medicine Hospital, from November, 2003 to May, 2004. The data of sex, delivery method, gestation age, birthweight, symptoms, herbal prescription, improved condition and other treatments was collected via the medical charts. The effect of treatment was excellent for 25 cases, good for 11 cases, not good for 8 cases. In fever, there were 39 cases. We used Gwakhyangjeonggi-san and venesection of blood for 17 cases, only venesection of blood for 20 cases, and only Gwakhyangjeongg-isan for 3 cases. The effect of treatment was excellent for 37 cases, good for 3 cases. In cold, there were 4 cases. We used Samsoum for 1 case, Socheongryong-tang for 3 cases. The effect of treatment was excellent for 2 cases, good for 1 case, not good for 1 case. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to look into back pain, pain disability, labour pain, and related areas of pain experienced by postpartum women. Method: A survey about pain including a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry pain disability, and pain drawing was used in a descriptive research method on 98 women 2-3 days after delivery. Result: 57.1% of those surveyed reported experiencing back pain before pregnancy. 75.5% reported experiencing back pain during pregnancy. The average starting time of back pain for pregnant women was 2.9 months into pregnancy. 48.8% reported the most severe back pain in the last trimester of pregnancy, while most women complained of left and right pubic pain and lumbar area pain during pregnancy. Statistical relations were calculated and menstrual symptoms (F=5.938, p=0.004), back pain prior to pregnancy (F=4.714, p=0.000), back pain during pregnancy (F=-3.429, p=0.001), and back pain disability prior to pregnancy (F=-1.994). Conclusion: There is a relation in postpartum women's back pain between back pain prior to pregnancy and back pain during pregnancy. Pelvic examinations early in pregnancy can determine if back pain will change for the worse or relapse. Therefore, the application of a pain relieving nursing intervention is needed.
The purpose of this study was to employ the Latent Growth Curve Model to investigate the developmental trajectories of maternal depressive symptoms and to identify predictors that might have an effect on change and the level of developmental trajectories. The results of this study indicated that the maternal depressive levels of a high risk group had increased significantly over the past 5 years. The predictors for these developmental trajectories of maternal depressive symptoms were as follows; birth order, maternal prenatal depressive levels, self-esteem, marital satisfaction, parenting stress and the level of family crisis experienced by the high risk group.
Objective : To find risk factor and symptoms for transferred newborn from postpartum care center Method : We performed a follow-up study using medical record. Subjects comprised 188 neonates(include 4 twins) and 184 women in childbed who were hospitalized in oriental postpartum care center from January, 1, 2002 to December, 31, 2002. Result: Transferred newborn was total 24, N.V.D. 17, C.S. 7, male and female were 12 separately. The symptom of transfer was fever(16), diarrhea(4), jaundice(3), convulsion(1) Transferred number and rate was male 12(10.7%), female 12(15.8%). In delivery method, total normal vaginal delivery(N.V.D.) was 136 and transferred 17(12.5%), total cesarean section(C.S.) was 52 and transferred 7(13.5%). Transferred rank was N.V.D. female(17.9%). C.S. male(15.6%), C.S. female(10%), N.V.D.(8.6%). Of the 188 neonates. immature infants were 2 and transferred 1(50%), term infants were 184, transferred 23(12.5%), post-term infants were 2 and transferred none(0%). In age of women in childbed, transferred ratio was 15.4%(over 35), 15.2%(25-29), 10.5%(30-34). In fever,. C.S. infants were more transferred than N.V.D. and male infant had a tendency to transfer in later period of hospitalization and female in early period. It seems that transfer was related to abortion. In diarrhea, all was N.V.D. and their diagnosis was rotavirus. The average age of women in childbed was yonger(28.5). In jaundice, all was 1st, and average birth weight was lighter(3153g). The average age of women in childbed was older(30). In convulsion, birth weight was lighter(3153g), and age of women in childbed was older(30). Conclusion : There's any relation with sex and delivery method, birth weight and mother's age in transfer. But we cannot find any statistically significance. Further prospective studies are needed to find risk factors in transfer.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to establish a clear diagnostic definition of Sanhupung using the Delphi method. Methods: This study used the Delphi technique. A panel consisting of 21 experts of Korean medicine, particularly in of gynecologic medicine, participated in the Delphi examination that included answering the 4th round survey. The Delphi examination was carried out through evaluating and correcting the questionnaire by e-mail. Results: Through the Delphi survey, we have reached on an agreement regarding the basic concepts, time, cause, essential symptoms, and accessory symptoms of Sanhupung. They are as follows: 1) Sanhupung is a culture bound syndrome reflecting Korea's cultural specificity. 2) Sanhupung can be diagnosed even after the miscarriage. 3) For the diagnosis of Sanhupung, the main cause of symptoms should not be classified as other disease. 4) Sanhupung can be diagnosed based on essential symptoms and accessory symptoms. 5) Essential symptoms include local symptoms such as joint pain at specific areas, partial sensory impairment and general symptoms including pain of all the joints, whole body sensory impairment, increased sweating, feeling of wind coming into the body, worsened symptoms with the cold, intolerance to cold, and pain of all the muscles. Conclusions: The basic concepts and diagnostic definition of Sanhupung were suggested based on the Delphi survey among experts in the field. Further research is necessary to improve reliability and validity of diagnostic definition of Sanhupung in clinical trials.
This study examined whether there are underlying latent classes of growth trajectories of maternal depression in the Korean population. Data from the first phase of the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) of the Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) were used for this study. The final sample of participants included 1,471 mothers, who completed three interviews: at birth, at one month, and at four months. A two-class model consisting of depression (12.3%) and non-depression (87.7%) was considered the best-fitting solution using Mplus 3.13. The changes in postnatal depression in the Korean population within four weeks after childbirth, which is the period of "postpartum onset", seem to be important. Logistic regression analysis showed that duration of breast-feeding and planned pregnancy effects were significantly associated with trajectory class membership.
