  • The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of 4 feeding systems on growth, feed intake, eating behavior, lactation performance, gestation period, post-partum heat period, conception rate and parasitic infestation of Black Bengal goat. Twenty four does of approximately 1 year of age were randomly selected for 4 treatment (feeding systems) groups having 6 replications in each. Treatments were stall feeding ($T_1$), tethering ($T_2$), restricted grazing ($T_3$) and grazing ($T_4$). $T_1$ group was housed continuously and adequate amounts of natural grass were supplied for ad libitum feeding. $T_2$ group was tethered for grazing natural grass from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. being moved at one hour intervals. Goats of $T_3$ group were allowed grazing from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. $T_4$ group was grazed from 8 a. m. to 4 p.m. Concentrate supplement was given at the rate of 150 g per day per goat for all of the treatment groups. Duration of experiment was 219 days. Daily live weight gain was significantly (p<0.05) higher in case of stall fed goats than that of others. DM intake also significantly (p<0.05) differed among the treatment groups and was 3.40 3.95, 3.76 and 4.05 per cent of their live weight for stall feeding, tethering, restricted grazing and grazing groups, respectively. Rate of rumination was significantly (p<0.05) higher in case of tethering group of goats than that of others. Birth weight of kids, milk yield, lactation period and post-partum heat period were significantly higher in case of stall fed goats than others. Tethering group showed significantly (p<0.05) higher litter size than others. Infestation rate of Fasciola was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the grazing group. In conclusion, it may be stated that among these feeding groups overall performance of stall fed goats was more satisfactory, and that the tethering group showed better performance than the others.

  • Global Warming has been driven majorly by the consumption of fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from wind is viable solution towards reducing carbon footprint created due to burning such fuels, However, wind turbines have their problems of flow separation and aerodynamic stall to tackle with. In an attempt to delay the stall angle and improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the NACA 0015 symmetrical aerofoil, lateral cylindrical ridges were attached to its suction surface, at chord positions ranging from 0.1c to 0.5c. The characteristics of the original and ridged aerofoils were obtained using simultaneous pressure readings taken in a wind tunnel, at a free stream Reynolds number of Re = 2.81 × 105 for a wide range of free stream angles of attack ranging from -45° to 45°. Depending on the ridge size, a delay in stall angle varying from 5° to 20° was achieved together with the maximum increase in lift in the post-stall phases. Additionally, efforts were made to identify the optimum position for each ridge.

  • A new blockage correction method has been developed for the wall interference correction of closed test-section subsonic wind tunnels based on the nonlinear relationship between separation blockage and separation drag. This method can be applied continuously from the linear lift-slope region to the highly nonlinear post-stall region by on-line processing. The present method was validated by comparing the results with a classical method based on the test results of a bluff body and a measured-boundary-condition method. It was shown that the present method is in good agreement with the measured-boundary-condition method, enabling better wall corrections than the bluff body method in both near-stall and post-stall regions.

  • Active flow control, in the form of steady and unsteady momentum injection via jet blowing was studied. A jet was obtained by pressing a plenum inside the airfoil and ejecting flow out of a thin slot. The normal and drag forces were measured with leading edge or trailing edge blowing Jet and compared with the results obtained with no blowing. The blowing jet has been shown to improve the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil. The steady jet proved more effective than pulsating jet in these experimental conditions. Furthermore for the case of leading edge steady blowing jet, the alleviation of non-linearity in the normal force curve slope can be seen at higher angles of attack. No effective trailing edge jet was observed in this highly separated flow. This shows that the stall control is highly depends on the characteristics of the boundary layer near the jet slot.

  • The optimum design and the performance analysis software called POSEIDON for the HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) was developed by use of BEMT. The Prandtl's tip loss theory was adopted to consider the blade tip loss. The lift and the drag coefficient of S-809 airfoil were predicted via X-FOIL and also the post stall characteristics of S-809 were estimated by the Viterna's equations. All the predicted aerodynamic characteristics are fairly well agreed with the wind tunnel test results, performed by Sommers in Delft university of technology. The rated power of the testing rotor is 20kW(FIL-20) at design conditions. The experimental aerodynamic parameters and the X-FOIL data were used for the power prediction of the FIL-20 respectively. The comparison results shows good agreement in power prediction.

  • The present study numerically investigates the effect of the wavy leading edge on hydrodynamic characteristics for the flow of rectangular wings with the low aspect ratio of 1.5. Five different wave lengths at fixed wavy amplitude have been considered. Numerical simulations are performed at a wide range of the angle of attack ($0^{\circ}{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}40^{\circ}$) at one Reynolds number of $10^6$. The wavy wings considered in this study did not experience enough lift drop to be defined as the stall, comparing with the smooth wing. However, in the pre-stall region, the wavy wings reveal the considerable loss of the lift, compared to the smooth wing. In the post-stall, the lift coefficients of the smooth wing and the wavy wings are not much different. The pressure coefficient, limiting streamlines and the iso-surface of the spanwise vorticity are also highlighted to examine the effect of the wave length on the flow structures.
