  • In this study, the effect of wall curvature and post-tension force on impact resistance is evaluated by numerical analysis method. A total of twelve cases with two parameters such as wall shape of flat and curved, and consideration of post-tensioning force were included in this study. A 3D detailed finite element model of commercial passenger plane engine is utilized as projectile. The depths of penetration and central displacement calculated from the numerical simulations were compared and analysed. As the results of the numerical simulations of this study, penetration depth was reduced approximately 60~80% due to the application of post-tension force, but the decrease of maximum central displacement was not remarkable. Also, the effect of curvature was relatively insignificant.

  • This paper is to investigate about a new technique (Bow system) which is to develop the disadvantages of the external post-tensioned method. The purpose of this paper is to analyze about the prestress loss when the loads apply along the long term and to improve the capacity of the members strengthened by Bow system. The variables in the test program are the span/depth ratio, the amount of tendon area. And the test was carried out to confirm the long term behaviour. It is shown that can apply the current code in the design, and have no the structural problems about the prestress loss.

  • Bearing stress near anchor plates is usually very high due to prestressing force in anchorage zone of concrete structure used post-tensioned prestressed method. In order to effective utilization of cross section and crack control, appropriate size of anchorage plates should be used to prevent crack initiation and failure of concrete structures eventually. This study aims to suggest equation for effective area of bearing plate of rectangle type and circular type by Highway Bridge Design Specification and PTI etc. A shape factor according to bearing plate shape is suggested based on numerical analysis, and it can be used suitability for design of special anchorage plate dimension.

  • While the existing reinforced concrete flat plate(RC flat plate) has a lot of advantages including reduced building height, it has some weak points such as many steel bars and the brittle rupture by punching shear. Compared with the RC flat plate, the post-tensioned flat plate (PT flat plate) has not only the same merits, but it also makes longer span possible and induces slab-column connections to be failed with the ductile behavior rather than with the brittle behavior by means of post-tensioning. However, it is difficult to define the joint behavior of PT flat plate under vertical and lateral loads since there are limit experimental results. For this reason, the experimental study is undertaken to investigate the comparison of behavior of PT flat plate and RC flat plate, and how flat plate(Gravity Load Resisting System) is displaced as lateral loads, like the wind and the earthquake, are occur. The result of this experiment shows that PT flat plate is generally superior to RC flat plate in terms of controlling crack, postponing stiffness deterioration, energy dissipation, etc.

  • The self-centering capacity and energy dissipation performance have been recognized critically for increasing the seismic performance of structures. This paper presents an innovative steel moment frame with self-centering steel reinforced concrete (SRC) wall panel incorporating replaceable energy dissipation devices (SF-SCWD). The self-centering mechanism and energy dissipation mechanism of the structure were validated by cyclic tests. The earthquake resilience of wall panel has the ability to limit structural damage and residual drift, while the energy dissipation devices located at wall toes are used to dissipate energy and reduce the seismic response. The oriented post-tensioned strands provide additional overturning force resistance and help to reduce residual drift. The main parameters were studied by numerical analysis to understand the complex structural behavior of this new system, such as initial stress of post-tensioning strands, yield strength of damper plates and height-width ratio of the wall panel. The static push-over analysis was conducted to investigate the failure process of the SF-SCWD. Moreover, nonlinear time history analysis of the 6-story frame was carried out, which confirmed the availability of the proposed structures in permanent drift mitigation.

  • Cablebolts used to be employed as auxiliary supports where long or high capacity bolts are needed, but become competitive by the improvements in supportability and easiness in handling. Based on the test results obtained from various researches, the performance of the cablebolts was analyzed numerically while varying lengths and fixing conditions. The supporting effecte is assessed by monitoring displacements and stress taken place in shotcrete. When cablebolts are grouted without being tensioned, supporting effect was not as good as that of rockbolts. But, their supportability was good enough to substitute rockbolts if tensioned properly. Post grouting right after tensioning of the cablebolts shows reduction in supportability, but long term stability could be achieved without losing supportability if grouted when the bolt is far enough from the face. Further study is necessary including laboratory and in-situ tests under various conditions to use cablebolts as main support in tunnels.

  • The uniform state of prestress in a fully prestressed concrete members shows reductions of more than half of the initial prestress in the construction and coupling joint vicinity. Especially, at a zone x/d=0.2 above the construction joint where at the edge of the member, a quite localized reduced stress state of 1/3 of uniform stress is encountered. Five full-scale test specimens were segmentally constructed and post-tensioned and analytic models is used to verify and validate measured test results. The encountered highly nonuniform stress/strain state in the coupling joint vicinity requires special design consideration for the successful application of tendon couplers.

  • Precast segmental bridge columns (PSBC) are alternatives for monolithic cast-in-situ concrete columns in bridge substructures, with fast construction speed and structural durability. The analytical tool for common use is demonstrated applicable for seismic performance prediction of PSBCs through experiment conducted earlier. Then the analytical program was used for parameter optimization of PSBC configurations under reversal cyclic loading. Shear strength by pushover analysis was compared with theoretical prediction. Moreover, seismic response of PSBC with energy dissipation (ED) bars was compared with its no ED bar counterpart under three history ground acceleration records. The investigation shows that appropriate ED bar and post-tensioned tendon arrangement is important for higher lateral bearing capacity and good ductility performance of PSBCs.

  • Although many structures. with high strength concrete have been recently constructed, the flexural behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete beams with high strength concrete is not exactly defined. This paper presents an experimental study on the flexural strength of the high strength concrete beams. Five large scale beams simply supported were tested and measured. Each beam was loaded by two symmetrical concentrated loads applied at 1.25m from the center of span. The concrete strength, the prestressed force and longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio vary from beam to beam. From the experimental tests, the flexural strength from tests is larger than the nominal flexural strength of codes. Moreover, the initial crack-load is affected by the prestressed force and the crack width and spacing are controlled by the longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio.

  • This study discusses attempt of utilizing the natural frequencies to evaluate the effective stress of post-tensioned, external tendon in field. This type of structure has distinct advantage of good accessibility of tendon, which is considered to be one of essential elements in entire bridge. Six tendons in single span of PSC bridge were applied. They were excited using an impact hammer and corresponding vibrations were measured using multiple accelerometers. The stiff string model in idealized conditions was used to evaluate the effective stress in tendons.
