  • Recent years, nationwide projects for ecological restoration are implemented with emerging issues on the stream ecosystem. In order to enhance effectiveness of the ecosystem restoration and reduce negative impact, the appraisal of effectiveness through the follow-up monitoring and the adaptive management process are executed in consecutive phase. In this study, planning phase, monitoring and adaptive management in Hakui stream which is part of An Yang stream restoration project is introduced as representative ongoing case of effective adaptive management. The aim of this study is to verify the adaptive management process and suggest direction of effective restoration. Restoration project of Hakui stream resulted in increasing number and diversity of species (vegetation, fish, bird, invertbrates, amphibian and reptilia) according to monitoring from 2004 to 2013, and enhancing natural river landscape by evaluation of river naturalness among 2001(before restoration), 2007 (after), 2015 (recent). However, excessive vegetation expansion or sediment deposition on channel over time caused unexpected results such as terrestrialization or degradation of habitats. Adaptive management action such as removing disturbance species (Humulus japonicus)(2007), coppicing willow (2007), release of march snail (2007), creation of wetland (2014) were implemented based on monitoring results. And then appraisal of management action was discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of a self-monitoring rehabilitation program based on the Bandura's self-efficacy theory on the activities of daily living (ADL), 6-minute walking distances, self-efficacy and quality of life (QoL) among stroke patients after three to six months. Methods: The participants consisted of 29 patients in the experiment group and 28 patients in the control group who admitted at rehabilitation specific hospital. Self-monitoring program developed by the researcher lasted twice a week for 8 weeks from August to September, 2013. Results: ANCOVA showed that all of dependent variables of this study, ADL and 6-minute walking distances as a physical function, self-efficacy and QoL for intervention group were higher than those for control group(p<.001). Conclusion: The self-monitoring rehabilitation program based on the self-efficacy theory was found to be effective in improving physical function, self-efficacy and QoL for early post-stroke patients. Early rehabilitation program for stroke patients was recommended to consider the self-monitoring of current physical and psychosocial status as a strategy of self-management.

  • An integrated real-time monitoring software for coastal environment has been developed by using GUI. The system consists of modeling module, real-time monitoring module, and post-processing module of the modeling and monitoring results. The system was applied to a port construction site. The main purpose for the system is to setup the information system that user can obtain the environmental information easily and quickly. The system can be used to monitor environmental changes due to construction activities in coastal waters and to assess environmental impacts accurately in real-time. In conclusion, the system will be a good tool for finding out countermeasures to lessen water pollution and clean seawater.

  • In this paper, integrated navigation algorithm is designed for land transport sector which is needed high accuracy and monitoring program is developed for lane departure warning. High accuracy position information which is possible lane separation is needed for lane departure warning, so position detection algorithm based GPS/DR which combine GPS with dead reckoning is proposed. For the verification of the designed integrated navigation algorithm, we drived to acquire data and showed post-processing experiment results with monitoring program. Vehicle driving movie and aerial photograph in monitoring program is designed to show lane keeping and lane separation.

  • To our knowledge, this is the first case of concurrent diaphyseal left coracoid and left femoral fractures in a Eurasian eagle owl and its post-release survival in Korea. The femur was surgically repaired using an external skeletal fixator-intramedullary (IM) pin tie-in method, and the coracoid was repaired solely with an IM pin on day 6 after femur surgery. The eagle owl underwent a gradual rehabilitation process. The bird was successfully rehabilitated and released 101 d after initial presentation. The bird was monitored using a wildlife tracking device and was confirmed to have survived for over 5 mon in the wild.

  • We had developed the on-line environmental monitoring system which has installed around Kori Nuclear Power Plants and will be taken the place of the existing system. The system consists of a main computer and 11 sets of radiation monitoring post equipments. Nal(Tl) scintillation detectro was adopted in addition to ion-chamber detector and implemented with DCU(Dose Conversion Unit) and SCA(Single Channel Analyzer). Compared with the existing system, it has revised feature in the radiation measurements which are detection of artificial radioactivity and 2-ways of the radiatiion detectors. The field test trsults show that the developed radiation detecting equipments can measure environmental radiation withn 5.0% of the theoretical value.

  • Using GPS in the navigation systems such as aviation, maritime and land applications, integrity is considered importantly with accuracy for safety. Integrity monitoring performed in the GPS receiver itself is Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) and need not an independent ground monitoring station. RAIM algorithm uses redundant information when more than four satellites are visible and makes consistency checks between measurement information to alarm users whether the system is operating out of its specified performance limits. Selective Availability (SA) that was used to protect the security interests of the U.S. and its allies by globally denying the full accuracy of the civil system was turned off on May 1, 2000 ...

  • Recently, CO2 geologic storage (geologic sequestration) has been concerned as one of methodologies for reducing greenhouse gas. We expect that geophysical approach plays an important role in the site selection, characterization, and monitoring during CO2 injection or post-injection. Especially we believe that monitoring and verification technologies such as surface and borehole geophysical methods are an important part of making CO2 geologic storage an acceptable method.

  • In this paper, the application of magnetoelasticity in static tension monitoring for large steel cables is discussed. Magnetoelastic (EM) stress sensors make contact-free tension monitoring possible for hanger cables and post-tensioned cables on suspension and cable-stayed bridges. By quantifying the correlation of magnetic relative permeability with tension and temperature, the EM sensors inspect the load levels in the steel cables. Cable tension monitoring on Qiangjiang (QJ) 4th Bridge demonstrates the reliability of the EM sensors.

  • As a result of the global effect of infectious diseases like COVID-19, remote patient monitoring has become a vital need. Surgical ICU monitors are attached around the clock for patients in critical care. Most ICU monitor systems, on the other hand, lack an output port for transferring data to an auxiliary device for post-processing. Similarly, strapping a slew of wearables to a patient for remote monitoring creates a great deal of discomfort and limits the patient's mobility. Hence, an unique remote monitoring technique for the ICU monitor's physiologically vital readings has been presented, recognizing this need as a research gap. This mechanism has been put to the test in a variety of modes, yielding an overall accuracy of close to 90%.
