  • The correct estimation of the ionospheric delays is very important for the precise kinematic positioning especially in case of the long baseline. In case of triple frequency system, the ionospheric delays can be estimated from the measurements, but, in case of dual frequency system, the situation is not so simple. The precision of those supplied by the external information source such as IONEX is not sufficient. The high frequency component is neglected, and the precision of the low frequency component is not sufficient for the long baseline positioning. On the other hand, the high frequency component can be estimated from the phase range measurements. If the low frequency components are estimated by using the external information source or pseudo range measurements, a more reasonable estimation of the ionospheric delays may be possible. It has already been discussed by the author that the estimation of the low frequency components by using the external information source is not sufficient but fairly effective. The estimation using the pseudo range measurements is discussed in the present paper. The accuracy is not sufficient at present because of the errors in the pseudo range measurements. It is clarified that the bias errors in the pseudo range measurements are responsible for the poor accuracy of the ionospheric delays. However, if the accuracy of the pseudo range measurements is improved in future, the method would become very promising.

  • In order to investigate the fish behavior in the water tank, the three dimensional positioning system with two CCD cameras was designed. The positioning system was tested at the vertical circulation water channel with observational part of 1,500L$\times$1,500W$\times$500H mm and the circular water tank with 2,050ø sub(1)$\times$1,850ø sub(2)$\times$400H mm. The observational error of vertical direction was larger than that of horizontal direction, and the observational error became enlarged in all directions according to the increase of depth and distance from the visual axis. The maximum observational errors of horizontal and vertical directions at the circulation channel ranged from -1.7 cm to 1.8 cm (2.4%) and zero to 2.1 cm (4.2%), respectively. But the errors of horizontal and vertical directions at the circular tank ranged from -1.3 cm to 1.3 cm (1.3%) and zero to 1.3 cm (3.3%), respectively.

  • Following the introduction of civilian navigation, the commercial Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers' market has been expanding in various fields such as autonomous driving and smart cities. With improved receiver performance and widespread use of GNSS, the configurations of base and rover receivers are becoming more complex. As a result, user must consider combinations of base stations with different qualities, costs, and performances. To address these issues, we conducted zero-baseline tests to analyze the double-differenced code-pseudorange noise of various receiver combinations, ranging from low- to high-cost. The results showed that the noise varied depending on the receiver combination. Notably, receivers from the same manufacturer exhibited similar noise and positioning errors despite significant price differences. We also found that the double-differenced noise of all receiver combinations was correlated with the Carrier-to-Noise Density Ratio (C/N0), the satellite elevation angle, and the Doppler shift, and it did not perfectly follow a normal distribution. Further analysis based on Modified Allan Deviation (MDEV) showed that different types of noise were observed for each receiver combination and the double-differenced noise and positioning errors have similar statistical characteristics. From this study, the importance of receiver combinations and their various characteristics can be better understood.

  • In the positioning algorithm of two-dimensional planar sensor array, the estimation error of time difference-ofarrival (TDOA) algorithm is difficult to avoid. Thus, how to achieve accurate positioning is a key problem of the positioning technology based on planar array. In this paper, a method of sensor reliability discrimination is proposed, which is the foundation for selecting positioning sensors with small error and excellent performance, simplifying algorithm, and improving positioning accuracy. Then, a positioning model is established. The estimation characteristics of the least square method are fully utilized to calculate and fuse the positioning results, and the non-uniform weighting method is used to correct the weighting factors. It effectively handles the decreased positioning accuracy due to measurement errors, and ensures that the algorithm performance is improved significantly. Finally, the characteristics of the improved algorithm are compared with those of other algorithms. The experiment data demonstrate that the algorithm is better than the standard least square method and can improve the positioning accuracy effectively, which is suitable for vibration detection with large noise interference.

  • As of 2012, for service-area-widening and commercialization of DGPS service, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has completed a DGPS service via Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting and doing experimental broadcasting. In this study, kinematic positioning tests were conducted based on DGPS service via T-DMB using low-cost GPS equipments in a dynamic environment. Standalone GPS, single-reference NDGPS via NTRIP, and virtual-reference DGPS via T-DMB surveys were conducted at the same time. And horizontal positioning errors were computed by comparing them with the result of high-precision positioning. As a result, when the DMB transmission interval was 3 seconds, horizontal positioning errors of standalone GPS, NTRIP-DGPS, and DMB-DGPS were 2.3m, 1.0m, and 0.7m, respectively. When the interval was 1 second, horizontal positioning errors were 2.0m, 1.2m, and 0.8m, respectively. Thus horizontal positioning accuracies improved with the DMB-DGPS compared to the traditional single-reference NDGPS.

  • Now, for the continuous location detection of train, The method which the moving distance and speed of vehicles are detected using an odometer mounted within railway vehicle, is used in railway domain generally. There are some problems that the train's positioning errors are accumulated as the moving distances increase. To solve this problems, The Train-borne Positioning System is being developed at Korea Railroad Research Institute. It is required to evaluate exactly a positioning performance of The Train-borne Positioning System for improvement of performance. Therefore, in this paper, we review the CDGPS methods to acquire reference position for performance evaluation of Train-borne Positioning System and verify the accuracy of the reference position through the static test and the vehicle test.

  • In this paper, we have described target positioning of automatic survey system. Target positioning error analysis shows target positioning errors are mainly dependent on the vertical angle of the triangle configured by target and two measurement points. Suggested target positioning error formula are confirmed by simulation using the Gaussian distribution.

  • Precise Point Positioning-Real Time Kinematic (PPP-RTK) is a high accuracy positioning method that combines RTK and PPP to overcome the limitations on service coverage of RTK and convergence time of PPP. PPP-RTK provides correction data in the form of State Space Representation (SSR), unlike RTK, which provides measurement-based Observation Space Representation (OSR). Due to this, PPP-RTK has an advantage that it can transmit less data than RTK. So, recently, several techniques for PPP-RTK have been proposed. However, in order to utilize PPP-RTK techniques, performance analysis of these in a real environment is essential. In this paper, we implement the local network PPP-RTK and analyze the positioning performance according to the distance within 100 km from the reference station in Korea. As results of experiment, the horizontal and vertical 95% errors of local network PPP-RTK were 6.25 cm and 5.86 cm or less, respectively.

  • In indoor environments, since global positioning system (GPS) signals can be blocked by obstacles, such as building structure. the performance of GPS-based positioning methods can be degraded because of the loss of GPS signals. To solve this problem, various localization schemes using inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors, such as gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer, have been proposed to enhance the positioning accuracy in indoor environments. IMU-based positioning methods can estimate the location of the user by calculating the velocity and heading angle of the user without the help of GPS. However, low-cost MEMS IMUs may lead to drift error and large bias. In addition, positioning errors in IMU-based positioning approaches can be caused by the irrelevant motion of the pedestrian. In this study, we propose an enhanced indoor positioning method that provides more reliable localization results by using the camera, light detection and right (LiDAR), and ARKit framework on the iPhone. Through reliable positioning results and augmented reality (AR) experiences, our indoor positioning system can provide indoor space guidance services.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the positioning errors according to the method of bonding lingual brackets. Dental models of twenty orthodontic patients with malocclusion were selected for this study. The positioning errors were measured on each model that brackets were bonded to. Three different bonding methods were used. For the first method the bracket was bonded intimately to the lingual surface of the model. For the second method, the bracket was bonded intimately to the lingual surface after setting up using articulator. The passive bracketing, bonding the bracket ligated first to ideal archwire, was used after setting up as the last method. The results were as follows: 1. The brackets bonded without setting up showed greater angulation errors in the upper 1st premolar and the lower canine than those in other bonding methods. The brackets bonded without passive bracketing showed greater positioning errors in upper central incisor, lower 1st and End premolars. 2. The brackets bonded without setting up showed greater torque error in lower 2nd premolar than those in other bonding methods. The brackets bonded without passive bracketing showed greater torque errors in all upper teeth, lower 1st and 2nd premolars. 3. The brackets bonded without passive bracketing showed greater rotation errors between upper central incisors, lower central incisors, lower lateral and central incisor, lower canine and lateral incisor. 4. The brackets bonded without setting up showed greater in-out errors between upper canine and lateral incisor than those in other bonding methods. The brackets bonded without passive bracketing showed greater in-out errors between upper central incisors, upper central and lateral incisors, upper 1st and 2nd premolars, lower lateral and central incisors, lower canine and lateral incisor. These results suggest that there is a large amount of positioning error in lingual brackets even by an indirect bonding technique, and it may be reduced by passive bracketing.
