Strategies to improve the range verification of stochastic origin ensembles for low-count prompt gamma imaging

  • The stochastic origin ensembles method with resolution recovery (SOE-RR) has been proposed to reconstruct proton-induced prompt gammas (PGs), and the reconstructed PG image was used for range verification. However, due to low detection efficiency, the number of valid events is low. Such a low-count condition can degrade the accuracy of the SOE-RR method for proton range verification. In this study, we proposed two strategies to improve the reconstruction of the SOE-RR algorithm for low-count PG imaging. We also studied the number of iterations and repetitions required to achieve reliable range verification. We simulated a proton beam (108 protons) irradiated on a water phantom and used a two-layer Compton camera to detect 4.44-MeV PGs. Our simulated results show that combining the SOE-RR algorithm with restricted volume (SOE-RR-RV) can reduce the error of the estimation of the Bragg peak position from 5.0 mm to 2.5 mm. We also found that the SOE-RR-RV algorithm initialized using a back-projection image could improve the convergence rate while maintaining accurate range verification. Finally, we observed that the improved SOE-RR algorithm set for 60,000 iterations and 25 repetitions could provide reliable PG images. Based on the proposed reconstruction strategies, the SOE-RR algorithm has the potential to achieve a positioning error of 2.5 mm for low-count PG imaging.

  • An iterative robust control design for PZT using Gaussian wavelet networks is proposed. A Gaussian wavelet network with accurate approximation capability is employed to approximate the nonlinear hysteresis dynamics of PZT systems by using an iterative control algorithm. Depending on the finite number of wavelet basis functions which results in unavoidable approximation errors, a robust control law is provided to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop nano positioning system. Finally, the effectiveness of the robust control approach is illustrated through comparative simulations on a PZT.

  • A study for a lathe to machine workpieces with noncircular corss-sections is presented. The noncircular cutting is accomplished by controlling the radial tool position synchronized with the revolution angle of spindle. A learning control algorithm is suggested for the toll positioning, of which the control performances are analyzed and simulated on a numerical computer that the effectiveness of the control is convinced. The learning control is tested on a NC-lathe which shows successful results.

  • This paper examines the interpolation algorithms and error criteria using stateline based control architectures that is proposed in the University of British Columbia. The main purpose of this paper is checking the influences of jerk in error criteria and judging several interpolation algorithms that are used for positioning. The performance of the extended error criteria and interpolation algorithm are demonstrated by simulation. It is found that a slight improvement was achieved by applying jerk in the error checking criteria and that spline interpolation yields stable result.

  • To apply stereo vision system to obstacle recognition system of AGV, we constructed algorithm of stereo matching and distance measuring with stereo image for positioning of object in area. And using this system, we look into the error between real position and measured position, and studied relationship of compensation.

  • Recently, number of navigation system using GPS and other complementary sensor has been developed to offer high-position accuracy. In this paper, we developed navigation system for mobile robot integrating GPS and DR sensor information provided by fiber optic gyroscopes and encoder information. In the case of short-term applications, integrating this encoder and gyroscope through Kalman filter reliable positioning can be obtained.   • GPS double difference, carrier phase measurements are ambiguous by an unknown inter number of cycle. High precision, relative GPS positioning can be obtained from a short time span of data if the integer double difference ambiguities can be determined efficiently. In this study, we used a ambiguities resolution method indicated by Clyde Goad. And I compared with ambiguities using Lambda method. The difference of ambiguities between two method is below ${\pm}$1.

  • It is discssed how to detrmine the home location of vhicles in an AGVS with a loop guidepath in a way of maximizing the request-call response probabilities for all demand. Optimal home position is selected by solving the simultaneous equations easily . Statuc positioning strategy is analyzed in which a single home position is allocated to which every vehicle is outed whenever it becomes idle. The cases of unidirectional guidepath is considered only. We provide a numerical example to illustrate the search algorithm developed for the case and compare the searched optimal solutions with the others.
