The author observed the positional relationship of maxillary cuspid to ala-lacrimal duct line in the 594 Koreans(329 male, 265 female) who had relatively normal teeth arrangement, aged 16 to 70. The relationship of ala-lacrimal duct line to the distal angie of maxilly cuspid of the subjects were classified as follows; Type A : Ala-lacrimal duct line was lotated more medially than the distal angle of maxillary cuspid. Type B : Ala-lacrimal duct line coincided with the distal angle of maxillary cuspid. Type C: Ala-lacrimal duct line was located more distally than the distal angle of maxillary cuspid. The occlusal relationship of the maxillary first molar to the mandibular first molar of the subjects were classified as follows; Group I : Group of neutrocclusion relationship. Group II : Group of distocclusion relationship. Group III : Group of mesiocclusion relationship. The obtained results were as follows; 1) The positional relationship of maxillary cuspid to ala-lacrimal duct line were as follows; (Male) Type A: $68.5%{\pm}1.58m%$, Type B: $22.5%{\pm}2.30m%$, Type C: $9.1%{\pm}\1.58m%$ (Female) Type A : $64.5%{\pm}2.94m%$, Type B: $26.5%{\pm}2.71m%$, TypeC: $8.9%{\pm}1.73m%$ 2) Ala-lacrimal duct line located more distally in group II and group III than group I at the point of the positional relationship of upper and lower first molar. 3) Average distance and standard deviation in type A were as follows; (Male) Right: $2.17mm.{\pm}1.01mm.$ Left: $2.27mm.{\pm}1.02mm.$ (Female) Right: $2.06mm.{\pm}0.70mm.$ Left: $2.24mm.{\pm}0.80mm.$ 4) Average distance and standard deviation in type C were as follows; (Male), Right: $1.47mm.{\pm}0.85mm.$ Left: $1.52mm.{\pm}0.97mm.$ (Female) Right: $1.04mm.{\pm}0.44mm.$ Left: $1.26mm.{\pm}0.89mm.$ The results of 3) and 4) had no significant difference between the male and female.
Purpose: To assess the positional relationship between the maxillary sinus floor and the apex of the maxillary first molar using cone beam computed tomograph (CBCT). Materials and Methods: CBCTs from 127 subjects were analysed. A total of 134 maxillary first molars were classified according to their vertical and horizontal positional relationship to the maxillary sinus floor and measured according to the distance between the maxillary sinus floor and the maxillary first molar. Results: Type III (The root projected laterally on the sinus cavity but its apex is outside the sinus boundaries) was dominated between 10 and 19 years and type I (The root apex was not in contact with the cortical borders of the sinus) was dominated (P<0.05) between 20 and 72 years on the vertical relationship between the maxillary sinus floor and the apex of the maxillary first molar. The maxillary sinus floor was located more at the apex (78.2%) than at the furcation (21.3%) for the palatal root. The distance from the root apex to the maxillary sinus floor confined to type I was increased according to the ages (P<0.05). Type M (The maxillary sinus floor was located between the buccal and the palatal root) was most common (72.4%) on the horizontal relationship between the maxillary sinus floor and the apex of the maxillary first molar. Conclusion: CBCT can provide highly qualified images for the maxillary sinus floor and the root apex of the maxillary first molar.

Purpose : This study was intended to evaluate the positional relationship between the hyoid bone and the mandible in patients with mandibular protrusion after mandibular set-back surgery by means of 3D-CT. Materials and methods : Preoperative(3 weeks before) and postoperative (6 weeks after) 3D-CT & cephalogram were taken on 32 patients(12 male, 20 female, mean age of 23.2) treated by bilateral sagittal split osteotomy with rigid fixation. The angular measurement on 3D-CT basilar view were deviation of Me & H, long axis angle of left & right cornu majus. The lineal measurement on 3D-CT basilar view were composed of intercondylar line and coordinates(x,y) of Me & H. The angular & lineal measurement of lateral cephalogram were composed of mandibular plane angle, SNA, SNB, ANB, FH-NA & FH-NB, and coordinates(x,y) of B, Pog, Me & H, PAS, Lpw, MPH and IAS. On the frontal cephalogram, deviation of Me were evaluated. Results : The mean mandibular set-back was 8.0mm horizontally and mandibular plane angle was slightly increased. The hyoid bone was displaced postero-inferiorly, the distance between MP(mandibular plane) and H(hyoid bone) was increased and the posterior airway space values (PAS, Lpw, IAS) were decreased. The coordinates Me(x,y), H(x,y) and deviation angle Me'& H' were revealed the strong positive correlation. Conclusion : The results revealed that the horizontal, vertical and transverse relationship of the mandibular and the hyoid bone movements were significantly correlated in patients performed mandibular set-back surgery.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the condylar position in relation to the glenoid fossa before and after orthodontic-orthognathic surgical treatment and to investigate the relationship with skeletal relapse. Materials and Methods: Lateral cephalograms and temporomandibular joint tomograms from 19 patients with mandibular prognathism who received orthodontic-orthognathic surgery were included in this study. Samples were divided into two groups based on skeletal change during the retention period. The relapse group consisted of 7 patients (3 females and 4 males; mean age, 21.9 years) whose pogonion or menton displaced more than 1 mm during the retention period and the stable group consisted of 12 patients (5 females and 7 males; mean age, 21.7 years). Anterior joint space, posterior joint space, superior joint space, and anteroposterior index were measured on tomograms at pretreatment and posttreatment timepoints. Condyle position and frequency of the positional change were compared between both groups. Results: In the relapse group and stable group, 42.9% and 45.8% of the condyles, respectively, showed forward or backward displacement at posttreatment. However, the changes were small and the mean anterior, posterior, superior joint spaces and frequencies of the positional changes did not differ statistically between both groups. Conclusion: Our results suggest that small positional changes of the condyle, which may occur after orthodontic-orthognathic surgery treatment, may not be related to skeletal relapse after removal of the orthodontic appliances.

An arc sensor system to compensate positional errors was developed on the foundation of sensor interface system to make use of the on-line shift function of industrial welding robot. Investigating the on-line shift function, we examine the quantitative relationship between the deviation from programmed path and the correction data transferred from personal computer to robot controller. The number of input parameters for weld seam tracking can be reduced by making the relationship between the deviation and the correction data during half weaving be the function of only cross time. With the results of weld seam tracking for the butt joint with V-groove and fillet joint of sheet metal, good performance was implemented. By developing the sensor interface system to compensate the positional errors, industrial welding robot can be expected to contribute to the promotion of welding automation.
Qualified ground control points (GCPs) are required to construct a digital elevation model (DEM) from a pushbroom stereo pair. An inverse geolocation algorithm for extracting GCPs from ERS SAR data and the SRTM DEM was recently developed. However, not all GCPs established by this method are accurate enough for direct application to the geometric correction of pushbroom images such as SPOT, IRS, etc, and thus a method for selecting and removing inaccurate points from the sets of GCPs is needed. In this study, we propose a method for evaluating GCP accuracy and winnowing sets of GCPs through orientation modeling of pushbroom image and validate performance of this method using SPOT stereo pair of Daejon City. It has been found that the statistical distribution of GCP positional errors is approximately Gaussian without bias, and that the residual errors estimated by orientation modeling have a linear relationship with the positional errors. Inaccurate GCPs have large positional errors and can be iteratively eliminated by thresholding the residual errors. Forty-one GCPs were initially extracted for the test, with mean the positional error values of 25.6m, 2.5m and -6.1m in the X-, Y- and Z-directions, respectively, and standard deviations of 62.4m, 37.6m and 15.0m. Twenty-one GCPs were eliminated by the proposed method, resulting in the standard deviations of the positional errors of the 20 final GCPs being reduced to 13.9m, 8.5m and 7.5m in the X-, Y- and Z-directions, respectively. Orientation modeling of the SPOT stereo pair was performed using the 20 GCPs, and the model was checked against 15 map-based points. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the model were 10.4m, 7.1m and 12.1m in X-, Y- and Z-directions, respectively. A SPOT DEM with a 20m ground resolution was successfully constructed using a automatic matching procedure.

Recently, the range of meridian muscle has expanded to muscular membranes, tendons and sinews as well as muscles, comprehending the modern manual therapy and its theories. So, in this study, the movement of body is explained through the assignment of meridian muscles into 3 Yins and 3 Yangs, and the modern manual therapy is understood with body's movement principles rather than with simple muscular movements. For this, the ground that the meridian muscles can expand to muscular membranes, tendons and sinews is researched in newest papers and studies rather than in the conventional studies that have analyzed the meridian muscles just in anatomic viewpoints. And, to find out how it can be applied to the actual clinic, its relationship with modern manual therapies such as Positional Release Therapy and Muscle Energy Techniques which are in the spotlight lately is also researched, getting the following results: Modern manual therapy is to keep the mutual balance of Yin-Yang meridian muscles after all and secure the stability of body to relieve the pains due to the stagnation of energy and blood. In the main body, they can be allotted into the opening of Great Yang/Great Yin, the closing of Bright Yang(陽明)/Small Yin, and the pivoting of Small Yang/Growing Yin (厥陰). The bending and stretching of meridian muscles as well as the movement of body can be explained according to the principle of opening, closing and pivoting. When the body is divided into 3 Yins and 3 Yangs, the viewpoint of Yin-Yang-Inside-Outside can be applied to the protagonist and antagonist muscles, giving a theoretic basis to the modern manual therapy. In the process to understand Positional Release Therapy and Muscle Energy Techniques in the viewpoint of Meridian Muscle, it turned out that the meridian muscle theory of Oriental Medicine which used to be known only in documents can well explain the movement mechanism of human body. The stress reaction through the reciprocal inhibition in Positional Release Therapy and Muscle Energy Techniques can also be understood with Yin-Yang-Inside-Outside.

The author obtained the transcranial-oblique lateral radiograms from 78 patients(26 male, 52 female) with temporomandibular dysfunction problem. And then, the author analyzed the dimensional changes of the TMJ space on centric occlusion, horizontal condylar movement and antero-posterior positional relationship of condyle to the articular eminence on 2.54㎝ mouth opening with clicking, TMJ pain and mouth opening limitation repectively, which were the symptoms of the temporomandibular joint pain dysfunction problem, and compared these data with control group. The results were as follows: 1. In centric occlusion, anterior and posterior TMJ space of experimental group was slightly lesser than those of the control group, also superior TMJ space of experimental group was significantly lesser than that of the control group. (p<0.01) 2. In 2.54㎝ mouth opening, the condylar horizontal movement and the antero-posterior positional relationship to the articular eminence were significantly lesser than those of the control group. (p<0.01) 3. Examined experimental group, the degree of condylar horizontal movement of affected ide was lesser than that of the normal side in 2.54㎝ mouth opening.
The prime objective of this study was to analyze the positional relationship of the lips to the anterior teeth according to age, sex, and both sides of the dental arch in 381 healthy Korean adults with normal occlusion ranging from 17 to 70 years over old. The results were as follows; 1. In the position of the corner of the mouth to the teeth, the range from center of canine to mesial side of first premolar was revealed the incidence of 81~87%, the distal side of canine was the hiqhest frequency of 39~43%. 2. A straight type (76~79%) of lip line was prevailed against the curved type in rest position. 3. In the exposed type of anterior teeth to upper lip in rest position, type III(50~52%) Grade 2 (26~29%) was revealed the highest frequency of occurences. 4. No significant difference in both sexes and sides of the dental arch was observed. 5. Lip position to the teeth with aging was showed the tendency toward straight type in lip line and toward reduction of the number of exposed type of upper anterior teeth to upper lip, and the corner of the mouth was placed posteriorly.
