Needs for the methodology of segmentation of linear feature according to the shape characteristics of line feature are increasing in cartographic linear generalization. In this study, the line segmentation method using expansible moving window is presented. This method analyzes the generalization effect of line simplification algorithms depend on the line characters of linear feature and extracts the sections which show exclusively low positional error due to a specific algorithm. The description measurements of these segments are calculated and the target line data are segmented based on the measurements. For segmenting the linear feature to a homogeneous section, expansible moving window is applied. This segmentation method is expected to be used in the cartographic map generalization considering the shape characteristics of linear feature.
In order to aware the situation and factors of women students' dropout from engineering college, the factor analysis for women students in P university was performed. The results showed responses that social cultural effects is more significant ones than social effect alone, and the effects of negative gender cognition in industrial circle and college to the women employees and coeds are more significant than effects of regional or positional ones. Also showed responses that the physical difference from man students, the ability for handling machine and tools, her parents' moral support, the gender cognitive engineering education and the boosting for job recruiting are more significants effects than the scholastic ability or the ageism. This may lay the foundation to make a curriculum for women included engineering education that emphasize the gender cognitive approach and the circumstances.
This paper presents the smart interacting multiple model (SIMM) using the concept of predicted point and maximum noise level. Maximum noise level means the largest value of the mere noises. We utilize the positional difference between measured point and predicted point as acceleration. Comparing this acceleration with the maximum noise level, we extract the acceleration to recognize the characteristics of the target. To estimate the acceleration, we propose an optional algorithm utilizing the proposed method and the Kalman filter (KF) selectively. Also, for increasing the effect of estimation, the weight given at each sub-filter of the interacting multiple model (IMM) structure is varying according to the rate of noise scale. All the procedures of the proposed algorithm can be implemented by an on-line system. Finally, an example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
Recently, optical disk drives are increasingly demanded to have higher speed as well as high information density, especially for applications like CD-ROM drives. To this end, improvement of their optical pick-up structure and control is recognized the very challenging issue. In this paper, the 2-D motion of the pick-up is first analytically modelled to identify the cause and effect of the troublesome cross coupling between auto-focusing and tracking directions. Subsequently, the overall system equations are derived to include the dynamics of the related components in the auto-focusing servo system. While its unmeasurable parameters being estimated by the least square error method, a simple but decent linear model can be obtained within its operating frequency range. To design the high speed and robust positional servo controller, the design specifications are detailed and H$\sub$.inf./ control method is employed based on the simple model. Using the pickup in a commercial 8 fold speed CD-ROM drive as an example, performance of the designed controller is verified by realtime experiments.
Purpose : The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of TMJ disc displacement on the TMJ disc configuration and surrounding osseous structure. Materials and Methods : The proton density and 72-weighted MR images of 57 TMJs were retrospectively studied. These TMJs were divided into three groups according to the anterior disc displacement status on MR sagittal images, those were the normal, anterior disc displacement with reduction (ADWR), anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADWOR). The frequency of disc configuration and surrounding bony change, the border status between articular disc and retrodiscal tissue were investigated according to the positional change of articular disc. Results : There were significant statistical differences of chi-square statistics of TMJ disc configurational type between normal and ADWR/ADWOR group, respectively. Surrounding bony change frequently appeared in ADWOR and a statistically significant difference of chi-square statistics of bony change frequency between normal and ADWOR group was observed. Conclusion : These results suggested that the disc configuration and bony change of TMJ are strongly related to TMJ disc displacement.
Conjugated dienoic derivatives of linoleic acid(CLA) are a series of positional and gemotric isomers of linoleic acid which are found naturally in food, mainly dietary products and breef. We studied the effects of CLA on the growth of tumor cells and the production of interleukin-1(IL-1) and interleukin-2(IL-2). CLA treatment markedly inhibited the growth of Yac-1 cells and sarcoma-180 cells by 99 and 82% to that of control, respectively, after four days of incubation at 37$^{\circ}C$. To elucidate the immunological mechanism of antitumor activity of CLA, spleen cells of Balb/c mouse were exposed to 31, 63, 125, 250 $\mu\textrm{g}$ of CLA per ml for 24 hrs at 37$^{\circ}C$. The culture supernatants of CLA-exposed spleen cells reduced the production of IL-1 and IL-2 in all of the test conditions. These results indicate that the anticarcino-genic effect of CLA was mediated by the other actions rather than the production of the Il-1 or IL-2. We suggest that CLA might have an antiinflammatory effect in part due to its inhibitory action on the production of IL-1.
Marbling (intramuscular fat) is the most economically important meat quality trait in Hanwoo (Korean cattle). The endothelial differentiation G-protein coupled receptor 1 (EDG1) gene, involved in blood vessel formation, is located within the genomic region of a quantitative trait locus (QTL) for marbling on bovine chromosome 3. Thus, the EDG1 gene can be considered as a positional and functional candidate gene for meat quality in beef cattle. This study aimed to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the EDG1 gene and to evaluate their associations with carcass traits in Hanwoo population. We have sequenced a fragment of 5'-UTR of the EDG1 gene and identified one SNP. Genotyping of the g.166A>G SNP marker was carried out using PCR-RFLP analysis in 309 Hanwoo steers in order to evaluate their association with carcass traits. The g.166A>G SNP marker showed a significant effect on the marbling score. Animals with the GG genotype had higher marbling score compared with AA and AG genotypes (p<0.05). This SNP marker also showed a significant additive effects for the marbling score (p<0.05). These results suggest that the EDG1 gene can be used as a molecular marker for DNA marker-assisted selection in order to increase the levels of the marbling score in Hanwoo.

Internal reorganization energy due to the structural relaxation in hole or electron hopping mechanism is one of the measurements of key indices in designing an organic thin film transistor (OTFT) for flexible display devices. In this study, the reorganization energies of dicyanoanthracenes for the hole and electron transfer were estimated by adiabatic potential energy surface and normal mode analysis method in order to examine the effect on the energies for the positional variation of the cyano substituents in the anthracene as a protocol of acenes to design an organic field effect transistor. The reorganization energy for the hole transfer was reduced considerably upon cyanation of anthracene, especially at the 9,10-positions of anthracene, and the origin of the reduction was interpreted in terms of understanding the coupling of vibrational modes to the hole transfer.
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of changing various parameters of the bone-borne rapid palatal expander (RPE) using the finite element method (FEM). Methods: In eight experimental groups, we investigated the effect of the number, position, and length of miniscrews; positional changes of the expander; and changes in the hook length on maxillary expansion. In finite element analysis, we compared the magnitude and distribution of stress, and the displacement changes following expansion of the bone-borne RPE. Results: When we compared the number and position of miniscrews, placing miniscrews in the anterior and posterior sides was advantageous for maxillary expansion in terms of stress distribution and displacement changes. Miniscrew length did not significantly affect stress distribution and displacement changes. Furthermore, anteroposterior displacement of the expander did not significantly affect transverse maxillary expansion but had various effects on vertical changes of the maxilla. The maxilla rotated clockwise when the miniscrews were placed in the anterior region. The hook length of the expander did not show consistent results in terms of changes in stress distribution and magnitude or in displacement changes. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that changes in the location and length of the miniscrews and displacement of the bone-borne RPE could affect the pattern of the maxillary expansion, depending on the combination of these factors.
The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of chest physiotherapy on the amount of tracheal secretion and $PaO_2$. After changing position of the neurosurgical patients who had tracheostomy cannula, experimental treatments were applied as bellows, manual chest percussion on groupI, chest percussion and manual chest vibration on groupII, chest percussion and mechanical chest vibration on groupIII were done. After these trials, we have analyzed the efficacy of each procedures comparing the group differences in the quantity of tracheal secretion and $PaO_2$. Target samples were sixty patients aged between 20 to 60 who have tracheostomy state and decreased consciousness status that were admitted in NICU of a university hospital from June 1 to August 31, 1999. They assigned randomly into three experimental groups. To compare the effect of each interventions, tracheal secretion quantify was measured and $PaO_2$ was analyzed via arterial blood gas analyzer. The data were analyzed by ANCOVA of 5% significance level using SPSS P/C program. The results were as bellows. 1) The first hypothesis 'There is a difference In the quantify of the secretion among GroupI, GroupII and GroupIII' was accepted.(F=29.27, p=0.00) 2) The second hypothesis 'There is a difference in $PaO_2$ among GroupI, GroupII and GroupIII' was rejected.(F=1.71, p=0.19) From this study results, positional change and manual chest vibration including chest percussion were the most effective treatment to get maximum amount of tracheal secretion and it was confirmed that mechanical chest vibration also made much better effect than sole chest percussion method. Therefore, we concluded that the mechanical or manual chest vibration with chest percussion is more effective respiratory care method than the sole chest percussion.
