  • Auxiliary air compressor(ACM) applied to railroad cars is a device which controls amount of compressed air in order that pantographs can be mounted correctly on the roof of an electric train. Existing ACMs consist of dc motors and brushes wear out due to friction with a commutator. Therefore, continuous maintenance is required. However, three phase BLDC motors have higher power density compared to dc motors and the machine maintenance is not needed because electric commutation is possible. The three phase generally uses hall sensors to get position information and this enables the accurate control. This paper suggests an algorithm that compensates the errors occurred when the hall sensors have a breakdown for stable operation.

  • This paper is investigated the sensorless drive for BLDC motor using microprocessor. Since the BLDC motor should be commutated according to a rotor position, the sensors are required to detect the position. But the sensors increase cost and volume, complicate the motor configuration, and do not operate properly in some operating environments such as high temperature conditions, so that the necessity of sensorless commutation algorithm is getting increased. This paper is proposed the method to drive BLDC motor without position-detecting sensor using Back EMF. Back EMF commutation method was implemented the sensorless drive system which could control the rotational speed and monitor the behavior of a motor.

  • A hull-cleaning robot sticks to the surface of a vessel and moves for efficient cleaning. Precise path planning and tracking using the current position is crucial. Many robots rely on the INS algorithm, but errors accumulate. To fix this, GPS, sonar, and USBL are used, though with limitations. Selecting suitable sensors for the surface operation and accurate positioning algorithm are vital. In this study, we developed a robot position estimation algorithm using the structure of a ship. Problems that arise when expanding the 2D position estimation algorithm used in existing wall structures to 3D were evaluated and methods for solving them were proposed. In addition, we aimed to improve performance by deriving singularities that exist in the robot path and proposing an error correction algorithm based on the singularities.

  • This study aimed to produce sensors for measuring thigh motor skills. A textile stretch sensor was manufactured using a CNT(Carbon Nano Tube) 0.1 wt% water SWCNT(Single-Walled Carbon Nano Tube) solution, and different designs were applied to increase the sensitivity of the sensor, and different GF(Gauge Factor) values were compared using UTM devices. The same design was applied to fabrics and weaves to observe changes in performance according to fibrous tissue, and the suitability of sensors was determined based on tensile strength, elongation, and the elongation recovery rate. Sensitivity was found to vary depending upon the design. Thus the manufactured sensor was attached to a pair of fitness pants as a prototype, divided into lunge position and squat position testing, and the stretch sensor was used to measure thigh movements. It was shown that stretch sensors used to measure thigh motor skills should have light and flexible features and that elongation recovery rates and tensile strength should be considered together. The manufactured stretch sensor may be applicable to various sports fields that use lower limb muscles, wearable healthcare products, and medical products for measuring athletic ability.

  • To interact with surroundings robots and other automated machines employ sensors. However, the sensors measurements are uncertain in some amount and this may limit the potential applications of machines. Varying surrounding conditions and noises of sensor signals are major sources of the uncertainty. In this paper the uncertainty is tried to be reduced by using redundant sensor systems, where the redundancy is accomplished by varying the parameters of logically defined sensors. The target value redundantly measured is estimated adaptively. An experiment was done for measuring the stereoscopic 3D position measurement in an inconsistent light condition.

  • We use three sensors such as a vision sensor, a proximity sensor, and a force/torque sensor fused by fuzzy logic in a peg-in-hole task. The vision and proximity sensors are usually used for gross motion control and the information is used here to position the peg around the hole. The force/torque sensor is used for fine motion control and the information is used to insert the peg into the hole precisely. Throughout the task, the information of all the three sensors is fused by a fuzzy logic controller. Some simulation results are also presented for verification.

  • In this paper we propose a controller which has the capability of disturbance measurement calibration for Cds array sensors in a magnetic levitation system. Steady state error due to environment light condition or external disturbance is corrected constantly. The correction is made by the sensors to measure the ball position of the system without additional deployment of sensors.

  • In this paper the low cost sensorless control circuit for a PM synchronous motor without the mechanical rotor position sensors is presented. The sensorless control algorithm and position detection circuit for the sinusoidal current wave drive is more complex than that of the rectangular current wave drive. The proposed position sensing circuit is composed of an operational amplifier and several passive elements. The design procedures for getting the optimal parameters for the position sensing circuit are presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through the simulations and experiments.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia, and high poer rate per unit volume. However, position sensor isessential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system, and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigtes the speed control of sensorless SRM. The proposed system consists of position detection circuit, dwell angle controller, digital logic commutator, PI speed controller and 4-phase inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through the experiment.

  • This paper proposes a sensorless drive method that estimates the rotor position by analysing Back EMF of single-phase Switched Reluctance motor (SRM). The rotor position information is necessary required, because SRM's torque is generated by exciting a stator winding according to rotor position. In order to detect the position of the rotor, the various rotor position sensors have been used. However, most of the position sensors not only increase the construction cost and the volume of the motor but also decrease reliability of driving system with environment. This paper proposed the method using the Back EMF to solve such problems. When a rotor and stator are overlapped, the Back EMF is sharply changed. By detecting this point, the rotor position can be estimated. Thus SRM is driven by turn on and turn off switches at the proper position through speed calculation. The validity of proposed method is verified through simulation and experiment.
