  • Advanced tactile sensors are receiving significant attention in various industries such as extended reality, electronic skin, organic user interfaces, and robotics. The capabilities of advanced tactile sensors require a variety of functions, including position sensing, pressure sensing, and material recognition. Moreover, they should comsume less power and be bio-friendly with human contact. Recently, a tactile sensor based on the triboelectrification effect was developed. Triboelectric tactile sensors have the advantages of wide material availability, simple structure, and low manufacturing cost. Because they generate electricity by contact, they have low power consumption compared to conventional tactile sensors such as capacitive and piezoresistive. Furthermore, they have the ability to recognize the contact material as well as execute position and pressure sensing functions using the triboelectrification effect. The aim of this study is to introduce the progress of research on triboelectrification-based tactile sensors with various functions such as position sensing, pressure sensing and contact material recognition.

  • Application of vector control scheme for consumer products is enlarging to improve control performance. For the field-oriented control, accurate position detection is essential and generally requires expensive sensors. On the other hand, cost-reduction is important in home appliances, so that binary-type Hall-effect sensors are commonly used rather than using an expensive sensor such as an encoder. The control performance is directly influenced by the accuracy of the position information, and there exist non-uniformities related to Hall sensors in electrical and mechanical aspects, which result in distorted position information. Therefore, to get high-precision position information from low-resolution Hall sensors, this paper proposes a new position estimator consisting of a Kalman filter and feedforward compensation scheme, which generates a linearly changing position signal. The efficacy of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation and experimental results carried out with a 48-pole permanent magnet motor.

  • The vector control technique using low-resolution Hall-effect sensors has been widely used especially in consumer electronics. Due to electrical and/or mechanical unevenness related to binary-type Hall sensors, the calculated or estimated position information has discontinuities so called bumps, which causes the deterioration of vector control performance. In order to obtain a linearly changing position signal from low-precision Hall-effect sensors, this paper proposes a simple bumps in position signal removal algorithm that consists of a first-order observer with low-pass filtering scheme. The proposed algorithm has the feature of no needs for system parameters and additional estimation processes. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper proposes a new speed and position estimation method for PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using low-resolution hall-effect sensors. In general, there are a variety of sensors to estimate rotor position for PMSM such as resolvers, and encoders. Position detection using hall-effect sensors that detect the flux of the rotor for rotor position is excellent method in terms of cost and space, but has low-resolution. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new speed and position estimation observer. The performance of the observer has been verified by simulations carried out using Matlab/Simulink.

  • This paper presents an improved approach for compensating rotor position signal displacement in brushless DC (BLDC) motors with misaligned hall-effect sensors. Typically, the hall-effect sensors in BLDC motors are located in each phase and positioned exactly 120 electrical degrees apart. However, limitations in mechanical tolerances make it difficult to place hall-effect sensors at the correct location. In this paper, a position error compensator to counteract the hall-effect sensor positioning error is proposed. The proposed position error compensator uses least squares error analysis to adjust the relative position error and back-EMF information to reduce the absolute offset error. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified through several experiments.

  • The meeds of vehicle navigation system are increassing and the accurate determination of position is still of promary improtance. GPS (Global Positioning System)receiver and low cost dead reckoning sensors have been used for vehicle position location. The integartion of these can improve the system performance to cope with accumulating errors and multipath problem in urban area. However, the implementation of integrated system of two sensors is net easy, for their real data ave noises that are not apt to be modeled. This paper discusses how to combine a GPS receiver and dead reckoning sensors. The characteriatics of sensors and their data are investigated, and the system for field test is manufactured. The test results of a selected typical route are presented.

  • For machining systems having a high precision positioning with a long stroke, it is necessary to examine the repeatability of reference position decisions. Though ball-screw driven linear stages equipped with encoders have high precision feed drivers and a long stroke, they have some limitations for reference position decisions if they have not been equipped accurate home sensors. High precision machining technology has become one of the most important aspects of the development of a precision machine. Such a machine requires high precision positioning as well as high speed on a large workspace. This study is performed to experimentally compare the repeatability for home position decisions in the case of photo sensors and hall sensors as a home switch of the ball-screw driven linear stage.

  • A navigation sensor system for outdoor AGV(Automatic Guided Vehicle) using AMR(Anisotropic Magnetoresitive) sensors is described. We derive a formula of the position of AMR sensor using the measured magnetic field intensity due to permanent magnet with constant distance. The system consists of sensor board. sensor control board and position processing board. The sensor board measures magnetic field intensity, the sensor control board controls the measurement of six sensors sequentially, and the position processing board computes the accurate position of the permanent magnet using Least Square Method. We arranged six sensors at intervals of 30cm and measured the position of the permanent magnet moving at intervals of 30cm. Experimental results showed that we can get standard deviation of 2mm and error of &\pm&4.5mm at a height of 20cm from the permanent magnet.

  • The accurate calculation of bucket tip position has a large influence on showing the motion of an excavator on the display device of the excavator and controlling the excavator automatically. It is generally known that Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors are more accurate than accelerometer-based sensors while the boom, arm or bucket moves because additional forces beyond gravity add additional acceleration to the sensors. To prove the accuracy difference between the two types of sensors, a position recognition system using an accelerometer-based sensor and an IMU sensor is implemented on the excavator. The experimental results show that the system using the IMU sensor significantly reduces the position recognition error while bucket moves and additional force beyond gravity exists.

  • In this paper we use wireless sensor network and ultrasonic sensors to estimate local position of mobile robots, and to navigate it. Ultra sonic sensor is simple and accurate so it is good to use in local estimation and navigation of mobile robots. But to obtain accurate distance of two sensors they need to face each others as possible as they can. To solve this problem we rotate ultra sonic sensor which is attached to robot in 360 degrees and obtain accurate distance. We can estimate precise position of mobile robot by triangulation using obtained distance information. A mobile robot navigates using embedded encoder and compensates its coordinates by ultrasonic sensors. Results of Experiments show proposed method obtains accurate distance between sensors and coordinates of position of robot. And mobile robots can navigate designated path well.
