  • Tracking correct position information is essential for rescue active in the case of wreck accidents, abscondence and kid napping. Position information system Using GPS and PDA can trace holder's positions exactly and fast, the system can minimize a loss of lives in emergency circumstance. In this study, it is aimed to develop a chasing system to position holders rapidly during distress situation.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to control the position of LDM(Linear DC Motor) using vision system. The proposed method is composed of a vision system for position detecting, and main computer calculates PID control output which is deliver to 80il actuator circuit in serial communication. To confirm the usefulness of the proposed method, we experimented about position control of a small size LDM using CCD camera which has a performance 30frames/sec as vision system.

  • An Automatic coking control system was developed to achieved substantial energy and labor savings through the stabilization and optimization of coke oven operation. With the aim of saving energy and labor, the coke department has been advanced automation and systematization. A typical examples of automation is Center Position Control System(CPCS) for coke oven. This system is proved effective in improvement of center position accuracy.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia, and high poer rate per unit volume. However, position sensor isessential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system, and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigtes the speed control of sensorless SRM. The proposed system consists of position detection circuit, dwell angle controller, digital logic commutator, PI speed controller and 4-phase inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through the experiment.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop position control system of an electric actuator for automatic shuttle shifting of a tractor. The electric actuator was installed at the link of the forward-reverse gearshift of the tractor transmission, and controlled in the ranges of forward, neutral, and reverse positions. The position control system of the electric actuator was developed based on PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controller and transfer function of the electric actuator. The coefficients of the PID controller were determined by Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) method and optimized using simulation program. The prototype AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) test unit of the tractor was installed and used to evaluate the performance of the position control. The evaluation system for the control performance consisted of forward-reverse actuator, motor driver, and controller. The tests were conducted as the controlled positions of the actuator were changed from neutral position to forward, neutral, and reverse positions in sequence. The sequential tests were repeated 20 times. The operations of changing the gearshift were considered as the step response of the control system. Maximum overshoot, settling time, and steady-state error were analyzed. The results showed that performance of the position control system was reasonable and qualified. The maximum overshoots, the steady-state errors, and the settling times of the position control system were 10~20%, 1~5%, and 0.92~1.49 sec, respectively. The modifications of the electric actuator will be required to enhance the performance of position control during field operation.

  • In this report, as the active position measurement system, a new method for two-dimensional position measurement system using a concept of semi-open type signal field has proposed. The feature of this system is realizing a position measurement only by scanning the encoded laser beams from scanning points to a measurement field, and observed it. First, both system configuration and encoding method are considered concretely, and M-sequence signal is selected for encoding. Next system design is performed to realize the theoretical measurement accuracy, and applied to a position measurement experiments.   • The ink jet printer media advance system is required to be exactly driven to the target position via tracking the reference velocity profile to obtain the high quality print image. A single gain PID controller is not sufficient to fulfill the control objectives, the exact velocity tracking and the accurate positioning, at the same time. A dual PID controller and its switching strategy are presented in this paper to achieve the control objectives. The media advance system is controlled by two separate PID controllers, one of which is for velocity control, and the other is for position control. A PID controller controls the velocity of the media advance system until it reaches the predetermined switching position. When the media advance system passes the predetermined position, the controller is switched to the other PID controller which is more profitable for exact positioning. The switching position is determined by the estimated stop distance. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. Nowadays, position data inputs to pulse signal from wheel. Perfect position measurement was limited to slip and slide of vehicle. This measurement makes up for the weak points, Position Detection System using GPS develops. By using the system, Korean High Speed Train is capable of accurate fault position detection.

  • This study is aimed to develop a system to position and manage object flow in real time. Logistics management system which position objects and vans using GPS is required to load, unload and keep freight effectively and in real time at sea or airport. In this study, a management system which is consisted of five sub-systems is developed; GPS position analysis system, GPS interface system, mapping system, network system and database management system.

  • In a high speed spindle system, it is very important to monitor the state of rotating rotor. Particularly in active control spindle system, the position sensor must provide feedback to the control system on the exact position of the rotor. In order to monitor the state of a high speed spindle exactly, High accuracy and wide frequency bandwidth of sensors are important. This paper describes the factors which has an effect on performances of inductive position sensor. We also report the experimental results that characterize the performances of the inductive position sensor.
