  • To safely control a group of trains, it is essential to detect the position of train. The system to detect the position of train by the train itself will become a mainstream of the new systems using radio transmission. This paper introduces the methods of train position detection that have been studied, introduces the trend of these methods. It also described the fundamental concept and approach to realize a system to detect the position of train which is applicable to systems.

  • In this paper, we show that the rotor position of the bifilar-wound hybrid stepping motors for the closed-loop drives is detected by the phase current measurement. We propose an instantaneous phase current equation, which is the function of electrical angle, by modeling the stepping motor including motor driving circuits. We also analyze the relationship between phase current and rotor position from the computer simulation results. We show that the information about the rotor position is obtained from the phase current amplitude and its derivatives at the instance of ${\pi}/2$ electrical angle of excitation voltage.

  • Accurate and reliable tracking system is essential for the central train control system. There are two systems widely being used, one is the fixed block system which utilizes the track circuit for the detection of train position, the other is the moving block system which has the advantage over the former since it enables shorter radio signal for the train position detection. In this paper a new algorithm is proposed which uses signal's phase difference of arrival to detect the train position. Experimental verification of the algorithm is presented in the paper.

  • This paper describes an application step of a $R^{-{\theta}}$ method which measures circular movements in machining centers. The detection of composite errors of circular movements and a high precision cutting method in machining centers were investigated by the analysis of data measured by $R^{\theta }$method which can detect the rotating angle and is applicable to variable measuring radius. When the error by squareness error and unbalance of position-loop-gain were mixed, the detection method of each error was proposed. Although the errors by squarenss error and backlash compensation were mixed, the errors by squareness error be detected. If the errors by unbalance of position-loop-gain and backlash compensation were mixed, the errors by unbalance of position-loop-gain could not detected. A high precision cutting mehod, which uses the NC program compensated by using feed-back data from error measured by the $R^{\theta }$method, was proposed.

Position Detection of a Scattering 3D Object by Use of the Axially Distributed Image Sensing Technique

  • In this paper, we present a method to detect the position of a 3D object in scattering media by using the axially distributed sensing (ADS) method. Due to the scattering noise of the elemental images recorded by the ADS method, we apply a statistical image processing algorithm where the scattering elemental images are converted into scatter-reduced ones. With the scatter-reduced elemental images, we reconstruct the 3D images using the digital reconstruction algorithm based on ray back-projection. The reconstructed images are used for the position detection of a 3D object in the scattering medium. We perform the preliminary experiments and present experimental results.

  • Through the low orbit GPS satellite for a 3-dimensional real time position detechtion can be achieved anywhere. Utilizing the GPS sate llite detection values an analysis of the varing characteristics of the ionosphere can be achieved, and by calculating the correlation relationship of the position detection error and the ionospheric time delay characteristics, an advanced algorithm technique can be developed. Computer simulation of the developed algorithm for defining the corelation between the position detection error and the varing ionospheric time delay charcteristics has been proceeded. The results of simulation reveal the fact that the varing characteristics of the ionosphere nearly match the actual ionospheric time delay characteristics.

  • In order to prevent the belt from being damaged by metal pieces, we developed multicoil-type metal detection system. This detects the presence of belt clips and position of metal pieces in ores being transported on conveyor belt. In this research, our coil sensor of multicoil-type metal detection system is divided into two parts, exciting part (transmitter coil) and sensing part composed of two receiver coils. Each receiver coil has several coils in the direction of belt width. Multicoil-type metal detection system is operated by supplying a transmitter coil with electric power resources to generate magnetic field, and then the change of magnetic flux resulted from a metal piece on the conveyor be a is induced into sensing coils. We can prevent detector from failing to catch metal pieces due to high threshold level produced by steel belt clips and male the sensitivity of belt-width direction uniform by using multicoil-type metal detection system. Besides, this developed system can recognize precise position and size of metal piece. The experiments shows that our multicoil-type metal detection system has better performances than the conventional metal piece detector.

  • In this paper, we represent the maximum detection probability formulas of symbol synchronization timing at each received delay signal in multipath channel delay profile in the multiplied correlation and difference type correlated symbol synchronization timing detection method. The computer simulation results show that the correlation symbol timing detection method have maximum detection probability at the lead of received delay signal of highest amplitude, but the difference type of correlation symbol timing detection method always have maximum detection probability at the lead of first received delay signal in the multipath channel models. Using this results, we show the BER characteristics difference between the IEEE802.11a OFDM signals which is obtained in case of the symbol synchronization timing is taken at zero error(perfect) timing position and at -1 sample error symbol timing position from perfect timing position in the multipath channel models regardless the length of channel delay spread.
