Organic ferroelectric material found vast application in a verity of engineering and health technology fields. In the present study, we investigated the application of the deformable organic ferroelectric in motion measurement and improving performance in tennis players. Flexible ferroelectric material P(VDF-TrFE) could be used in wearable motion sensors in tennis player transferring velocity and acceleration data to collecting devises for analyzing the best pose and movements in tennis players to achieve best performances in terms of hitting ball and movement across the tennis court. In doing so, ferroelectric-based wearable sensors are used in four different locations on the player body to analyze the movement and also a sensor on the tennis ball to record the velocity and acceleration. In addition, poses of tennis players were analyzed to find out the best pose to achieve best acceleration and movement. The results indicated that organic ferroelectric-based sensors could be used effectively in sensing motion of tennis player which could be utilized in the optimization of posing and ball hitting in the real games.

At the aim of solving the problems appearing in traditional optical motion capturing systems such as the interference among multiple patches and the complexity of sensor and patch allocations, this paper proposes a new motion capturing system which is composed of a single camera and multiple motion sensors. A motion sensor is consisted of an acceleration sensor and a gyro sensor to detect the motion of a patched body and the orientation (roll, pitch, and yaw) of the motion, respectively. Although Image information provides the positions of the patches in 2D, the orientation information of the patch motions acquired by the motion sensors can generate 3D pose of the patches using simple equations. Since the proposed system uses the minimum number of sensors to detect the relative pose of a patch, it is easy to install on a moving body and can be economically used for various applications. The performance and the advantages of the proposed system have been proved by the experiments.

This paper presents kinematic calibration of parallel manipulators with partial pose measurements using a device that measures a rotation of the end-effector along with its position. The device contains an LVDT, a biaxial inclinometer, and a rotary sensor and facilitates automation of the measurement procedure. The device is designed in a modular fashion and links of different lengths can be used. The additional kinematic parameters required for the measurement device are discussed, kinematic relations are derived, and cost function is established to perform calibration with the proposed device. The study is performed for a six degree-of-freedom(DOF) fully parallel HexaSlide Mechanism(HSM). Experimental results show significant improvement in the accuracy of the HSM.

This paper reports a localization method of a mobile robot using ceiling image. The ceiling has landmarks which are not distinguishablefrom one another. The location of every landmark in a map is given a priori while correspondence is not given between a detected landmark and a landmark in the map. Only the initial pose of the robot relative to the landmarks is given. The method uses particle filter approach for localization. Along with estimating robot pose, the method also associates a landmark in the map to a landmark detected from the ceiling image. The method is tested in an indoor environment which has circular landmarks on the ceiling. The test verifies the feasibility of the method in an environment where range data to walls or to beacons are not available or severely corrupted with noise. This method is useful for localization in a warehouse where measurement by Laser range finder and range data to beacons of RF or ultrasonic signal have large uncertainty.

In order to ensure reliable navigation performance of a lunar exploration rover, navigation algorithms using additional sensors such as inertial measurement units and cameras are essential on lunar surface in the absence of a global navigation satellite system. Unprecedentedly, Visual Odometry (VO) using a stereo camera has been successfully implemented at the US Mars rovers. In this paper, we estimate the 6-DOF pose of the lunar exploration rover from gray images of a lunar-like terrains. The proposed algorithm estimates relative pose of consecutive images by sparse image alignment based semi-direct VO. In order to overcome vulnerability to non-linearity of direct VO, we add adaptive motion prior weights calculated from a linear function of the previous pose to the optimization cost function. The proposed algorithm is verified in lunar-like terrain dataset recorded by Toronto University reflecting the characteristics of the actual lunar environment.
Physical parameters of milk cow were measured to design and build RMS(Robotic Milking System) with a tape-measurer and body parameter measurer. The parameters are very important variables to design an RMS. For the working zone space of an RMS manipulator and the movement blunting of milk cow, an interval frame was installed on the stall bottom, and then cow's behavioral reactions were tested. The results from this study is summarized as follow. 1. On the general physical condition measurement, the maximum, minimum and average body length of cow which is related to the space that the manipulator could work into the RMS were 175cm, 144cm, and 163cm respectively. It appeared that the average distance between bottom and chest was 60cm. 2. The average length between fore teats, fore and hind teats and hind teats were 178mm, 150mm and 95mm respectively. It appeared that the average length between bottom and teat attachments was 544mm, and the average length between fore teats and tail-end was 331mm. 3. Although a cow kept a some extent length between hind legs for milking, it looked a stable pose. However, the cow kept a some extent distance between front legs for milking, it looked a unstable pose. Based on results of this test, an interval frame of stall bottom should be installed around the position which was located at its hind legs.

Custom-tailored products are meant by the products having various sizes and shapes to meet the customer's different tastes or needs. Thus fabrication of custom-tailored products inherently involves inefficiency. To minimize this inefficiency, a new paradigm is proposed in this work. In this paradigm, different parts are grouped together according to their sizes and shapes. Then, representative shape of each group is derived and it will be used as the work-piece from which the parts in the group are machined. Once a new product is ordered, the optimal work-piece is selected through making similarity comparisons of new product and each representative shape. Then an effective NC tool-path is generated to machine only the different portions between the work-piece and the ordered product. The efficient machining conditions are also derived from this shape difference. By machining only the different portions between the work-piece and the ordered product, it saves time. Similarity comparison starts with the determination of the closest pose between two shapes in consideration. The closest pose is derived by comparing the ray distances while one shape is virtually rotated with respect to the other. Shape similarity value and overall similarity value calculated from ray distances are used for grouping. A prototype system based on the proposed methodology has been implemented and applied to the grouping and machining of the shoe lasts of various shapes and sizes.

Intelligent video surveillance systems have been developed to monitor global areas and find specific target objects using a large-scale database. However, person re-identification presents some challenges, such as pose change and occlusions. To solve the problems, this paper presents an improved person re-identification method using sparse representation and saliency-based dictionary construction. The proposed method consists of three parts: i) feature description based on salient colors and textures for dictionary elements, ii) orthogonal atom selection using cosine similarity to deal with pose and viewpoint change, and iii) measurement of reconstruction error to rank the gallery corresponding a probe object. The proposed method provides good performance, since robust descriptors used as a dictionary atom are generated by weighting some salient features, and dictionary atoms are selected by reducing excessive redundancy causing low accuracy. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied in a large scale-database surveillance system to search for a specific object.

Recently, the in-line vision inspection has become the subject of growing research area in the visual control systems and robotic intelligent fields that are required exact three-dimensional pose. The objective of this article is to study the pc based in line visual inspection with the hand-eye structure. This paper suggests three dimensional structured light measuring principle and design method of laser sensor header. The hand-eye laser sensor have been studied for a long time. However, it is very difficult to perform kinematical analysis between laser sensor and robot because the complicated mathematical process are needed for the real environments. In this problem, this paper will propose auto-calibration concept. The detail process of this methodology will be described. A new thinning algorithm and constrained hough transform method is also explained in this paper. Consequently, the developed in-line inspection module demonstrate the successful operation with hole, gap, width or V edge.
