  • As high speed internet users are tremendously increasing, three are keenly in need of development of high speed portable internet technology which can provide high quality wireless internet service cheaply even in the mobile. Unlike the FDD-CDMA, TDD-OFDMA has relatively poor wave environment with inducing interference, fading and delay because it agrees to multi-carrier modulation method and time-division radio telecommunication system. To solve this problem, it is necessary to develop repeater operating by digital signal processing method which have more strict wireless channel control and wave signal processing technology over TDD telecommunication equipments. This thesis is dealing with design and implementation of Digital RF Repeater which implemented 'Synchronization Acquisition Unit', 'TDD signal switching Unit', 'Feedback Signal Cancellation Unit'. Over this argument, we will develop digital RF repeater with more cheap, more adaptive in wave environment like oscillation control, adaptive wave monitoring and output increasing and having control function as a result it will be helpful for success in high speed portable internet service business.

Seismic Research Network in KIGAM (한국자원연구소 지진 네트워크)

  • Instrumental observation of earth quakes in KIGAM was first attempted in the earty 1980`s by using 6 portable seismographs in the vicinity of Yang-San Faults. Now twenty-four permanent stations, which are equipped with short-period or broad-band seismometer, are included in seismic research network in KIGAM, including KSRS array station in Wonju which is consisted of 26 bore-hole stations. The seismic network of KIGAM is also linked to that of KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute)which is consisted of eight stations installed within and around the nuclear power plants. Owing to real-time data acquisition by telemetry, it became feasible to automatically locate hypocenters of the local events within fifteen minutes by computer data processing system, named KEMS(Korea Earthquake Monitoring System). Results of the hypocenter determination, together with observational data, are compiled and stored in the data base system. And they are published via web site whose URL is http://quake.kigam.re.kr KIGAM is also running t재 permanent geomagnetic stations installed in Daejun and Kyungju. The observed geomagnetic data are transmitted to Earthquake Research Centre in KIGAM by seismic network and compiled for the purpose of earthquake prediction research and other basic geophysical research.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve repeatability of a non-invasive blood glucose measurement. The portable NIR system that was newly integrated by our lab includes a tungsten halogen lamp, a specialized reflectance fiber optic probe and a photo diode array type InGaAs detector, which was developed by a microchip technology based on the lithography. Reflectance NIR spectra of finger tip were recorded by using a fiber optic probe. The probe was fixed in the system and subjects put their finger on the probe head. (omitted)

  • According to the development of society and infrastructure, effective underground facility management is growing more important them ever. In the process various monitoring systems are studied and developed for water works pipe-network. Especially, RTD-1000 system with the based on Pc. Reflector-monitoring device is constructed and steered by several local governments. But, this system have to be improved result from based on PC system structure at the point of resource management, heat, power consumption and size. In this paper, RTD-2000 is proposed are a substitution of improved RTD-1000 with many respect and portable one. This system is designed and implemented with ARM-9 development kit based on WinCE and LCD eliminate TDR(Time Domain Reflector-Meter). Various surveillance programs based on windows are mounted on RTD-1000 are replaced with dedicated embedded application softwares. Simulation and evaluation for performance comparison are performed for the prove of effectiveness of RTD-2000.

  • Domestic road type-and period-specific driving pattern measurement was required as Korea's participation in developing "Worldwide harmonized light-duty vehicle emission test procedure (WLTP/DHC)" studied by UN WP29. This study measured road driving data reflecting road and traffic conditions of Korea, and analyzed seven types of representative road type-and period-specific driving patterns with driving pattern standardization methodology proposed by WP29. PAMS (Portable Activity Monitoring Systems) equipment was used to collect enormous (35,410km) road driving data. There are significant difference among seven derived driving patterns.

  • This is concerned with the technology to monitor the vehicle operation, failure and disorder by using WiBro portable device. More precisely, the technology makes it possible that the information collection device is connected to both ECU(Electronic Control Unit) which is the device for controlling engine, transmission, brake, air-bag, etc that are connected to in-vehicle network and OBD-II connector that is for data collection from various sensors. In addition, with a WiBro portable device (cell phone, PDA, PMP, UMPC, etc). equipped with a vehicle diagnostic programs, information for operation, failure and malfunction can be obtained and analyzed in real-time, and alarm is alerted when the vehicle is in abnormal status, which makes the early reactions to the status. Furthermore, the collected data can be sent through WiBro network to the server managed by the company specialized in managing the vehicles, thus the technology could help the drivers who have less knowledge about their auto-vehicles have safe and economic driving. There is always a possibility of malfunction due to various types of noise that are caused by wring-harness when the device is wired-connected. In this research, in order to overcome this problem, we propose a system configuration that can do monitoring and diagnosis with a device for collecting data from vehicle and a personal WiBro device. Also, we performed research on data acquisition and interlock for the system defined by the definition for information and data sharing platform.

  • In this paper. we present a new method for monitoring of ECU's self diagnostic signals of vehicle without wire. In order to measure the ECU's self diagnostic signals, the interfaced circuit is designed to communicate ECU and designed terminal according to the IOS, SAE regulation of communication protocol standard. Micro-processor 80C196KC is used for communicating ECU's self diagnositc signals and the results are sent to the wireless terminal and PC monitoring system. Wireless terminal is also developed by 80C196KC, LCD, RF module, and keypad. The command from the keypad is sent to ECU through RF module and the result show on the Graphic LCD in real time. Software on PC is developed to monitor the ECU's self diagnostic signals using the Visual C++ complier in which RS232 port is programmed by half duplex method. The algorithms for measuring the ECU's self diagnostic signals are verified to monitor both ECU and portable terminal state. At the same time, the information to fix the vehicle's problem can be shown on the developed software. The possibility for remote measurement of ECU self diagnostic signal is verified through the developed systems and algorithms.

  • A Development of a data logger for monitoring wasted water is introduced. A characteristics of the system with microcontroller are simple and cheaper. A portable RAM card is consisted for saving a monitored data. Serial communication is adopted to communicate with a remote monitoring computer. CSMA/CD, which is used widely as MAC(Medium Access Control) in ethernet, is modified to apply a RS485 serial communication. When the measured values run over a limit values, the data logger takes alarm.

  • The u-health service is using portable device such as smart device and it consists of small computing device. The u-health service carry out same performance with desktop computer. We designed message structure based on Bluetooth HDP. This message structure is used to transmit patient's biometric data on the smart device of medical team, patient and family over the mobile network environment. ISO/IEEE 11073 PHD standard was defined based on the method of communication between the agent and the manager. And We are confirmed the reliable transmission of biometric data at the smart device by implementing the android OS based patient information monitoring application to check the status of patient for medical team, patient and family.

  • The effectiveness and the sensitivity of a Wireless impedance/Admittance Monitoring System (WiAMS) for the prompt damage diagnosis of two single-storey single-span Reinforced Concrete (RC) frames under cyclic loading is experimentally investigated. The geometrical and the reinforcement characteristics of the RC structural members of the frames represent typical old RC frame structure without consideration of seismic design criteria. The columns of the frames are vulnerable to shear failure under lateral load due to their low height-to-depth ratio and insufficient transverse reinforcement. The proposed Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system comprises of specially manufactured autonomous portable devices that acquire the in-situ voltage frequency responses of a network of twenty piezoelectric transducers mounted to the RC frames. Measurements of external and internal small-sized piezoelectric patches are utilized for damage localization and assessment at various and increased damage levels as the magnitude of the imposed lateral cycle deformations increases. A bare RC frame and a strengthened one using a pair of steel crossed tension-ties (X-bracing) have been tested in order to check the sensitivity of the developed WiAMS in different structural conditions since crack propagation, damage locations and failure mode of the examined frames vary. Indeed, the imposed loading caused brittle shear failure to the column of the bare frame and the formation of plastic hinges at the beam ends of the X-braced frame. Test results highlighted the ability of the proposed SHM to identify incipient damages due to concrete cracking and steel yielding since promising early indication of the forthcoming critical failures before any visible sign has been obtained.
