  • Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), which is an element of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), is a widely used material handling equipment with conveyors and Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Until now the evaluation of operational policies of AS/RS and control algorithms is done theoretically or by computer simulations. In this study, a real-time control and monitoring software of an AS/RS is also developed by making actually moving AS/RS miniature. A PC-based real-time monitoring program can control the AS/RS directly through the communication port. The monitoring program has additional functions such as storage/retrieval management, inventory management, and statistics management. The program can not only collect the necessary statistics but monitor the current action of the AS/RS concurrently.

  • It is very important to measure and monitor hull stress which is caused by a buoyant force and a weight of cargo for safety of ship. However, an exact measurement of hul stress, using the traditional strain gage which is made of metal or semiconductor, is very difficult, because a ship would be exposed by the severe temperature environment of $-20 ^{\circ}C$ to $80 ^{\circ}C$. This paper propose a new concept strain gage which can improve accuracy and compensage effectively affects due to temperature. The strain gage is consists of two parts. One is the Hull Deformation Amplifier which introuce several lever and link system, and another is a transducer converting distance into voltage signal. The HDA measure the amount of deformation and amplify it. And a lever and link system of the HDA is introduced for compensating temperature deformation by installing in perpendicular direction without stress. This paper also reports on the results of the experiments to verify linearity of the strain gage.

  • This paper proposes a system intergration method for M20J flight simulator development. The simulator consists of three modules. The first module is for flight dynamics simulation, and the second module is for avionic systems and flight instrument and the last module is for interface card which connects PC and input devices using rotary encoders and switches. Two computers are equipped in the simulator for instructor and trainee. An instructor can give a mission to a trainee, and control the flight simulation options through RS-232C serial port. Also, the instructor can monitor the training results of the trainee.

  • Embankment preloading, in conjunction with prefabricated vertical (PV) drains, was used to accelerate consolidation of marine clays in Pusan New Harbour project. UP to eightteen settlement plates were installed at the ground reclamated site under the embankment fill to monitor the preload performance. This analysis is carried out by five settlement prediction methods including the Asaoka, Hyperbolic, Hoshino, and back-analysis method based on optimization. The field settlement data can be analysed by settlement prediction methods to predict the ultimate settlement and the degree of consolidation of the reclaimed land under charge fill. The authors compared with the analyzed results of the methods.

  • This work presents a design technique for the implementation of the liquid level control system by based on the use of a single-chip microcontroller.   • As a serial communications protocol, Modbus has become a practically standard communication protocol and is now a commonly available means of connecting industrial electronic devices. Therefore, all devices can be connected using the Modbus protocol with the measurement and remote control on ships, buildings, trains, airplanes and more. The existing Modbus that has been used is based on serial communication. Modbus TCP uses Ethernet communication based on TCP / IP which is the most widely used Internet protocol today; so, it is faster than serial communication and can be connected to the Internet of Things. In this paper, we designed an algorithm to control LED lighting in a wireless Wi-Fi environment using the Modbus TCP communication protocol, and designed and implemented a LED controller circuit that can check external environmental factors and control remotely through the integrated management system of a ship. Temperature, humidity, current and illuminance values, which are external environmental factors, are received by the controller through the sensors, and these values are communicated to the ship's integrated management system via the Modbus protocol. The Modbus can be connected to Master devices via TCP communication to monitor temperature, humidity, current, illuminance status and LED output values, and also users can change the RGB value remotely in order to change to the desired color. In addition, in order to confirm the implementation of the controller, we developed a simulated ship management system to monitor the temperature, humidity, current and illumination conditions, and change the LED color of the controller by changing the RGB value remotely.

  • On-Board Diagnostic(OBD) systems are in most cars and light trucks on the load today. During the 1970's and early 1980's manufacturers started using electronic means to control engine functions and diagnose engine problems. The CARB's diagnostic requirements to meet EPA emission standards have been designated as OBD with a goal of monitoring all of the emissions-related components, as well as the chassis, body, accessory devices and the diagnostic control network of the vehicle for proper operation. In this paper, we present a remote measurement system for the wireless monitoring of diagnosis signal and sensors output signals of ECU adopted KWP2000, united the OBD communication protocol, on OBD-compliant vehicle using the wirless communication technique of Bluetooth. In order to measure the ECU signals, the interface circuit is designed to communicate ECU and designed terminal wirelessly according to the ISO, SAE regulation of communication protocol standard. A microprocessor S3C3410X is used for communicating ECU signals. The embedded system's software is programmed to measure the ECU signals using the ARM compiler and ANCI C based on MicroC/OS kernel to communicate between bluetooth modules using bluetooth stack. The diagnostic system is developed using Visual C++ MFC and protocol stack of bluetooth for Windows environment. The self-diagnosis and sensor output signals of ECU is able to monitor using PC with bluetooth board connected in serial port of PC. The algorithms for measuring the ECU sensor output and self-diagnostic signals are verified to monitor ECU state. At the same time, the information to fix the vehicle's problem can be shown on the developed monitoring software. The possibility for remote measurement of self-diagnosis and sensor signals of ECU adopted KWP2000 in embedded system verified through the developed systems and algorithms.

  • We have designed embedded web server system and ported Linux operating system version 2.4.1 at our system. And then We implemented to control and monitor widely separated hardware. Web server is the Boa web server with General Public License. We designed for this system using of Cirrus logic's EP7312 ARM core base processor and connecting input and output device at GPIO port of EP7312. Device driver of General purpose I/O for Linux OS is designed. And then the application program controlling driver is implemented to use of common gate interface C language. User is available to control and monitor at client PC. This method have benefit to reduce the Expenditure of hardware design and development time against PC base system and have various and capacious application against firmware base system.

A Monitoring Unit for Lead Storage Batteries in Stand Alone PV Generation Systems (독립형 태양광 발전소의 연 축전지 모니터링장치 개발)

  • Use of the PV(photovoltaic) generation system is increased in such areas as remote mountain places or islands at which electrical energy is not serviced. The stand alone PV system is required the power storage products such as battery, fly wheel and super capacitor. Several lead storage batteries are connected in series to get high voltages. The life of lead storage battery is shortened when over charge or over discharge takes place. So, it is needed to control batteries not to be overcharged or be discharged deeply. Voltage of each battery was ignored in former control methods in which overall voltage was used to control charge or discharge battery. In this study, the charging and discharging voltage variations of sealed lead storage batteries with l2V/l.2A were investigated step by step experiments. The results of the test show that one should consider and specify the state of each battery to prevent overcharge or deep discharge. With the basis of the experiments, we designed a monitoring unit to monitor battery voltages simultaneously using micro-controller. The unit measures voltage of 20 batteries simultaneously and displays data on the color LCD monitor with curved line graph. It also sends data to PC using the RS232C communication port. The designed unit was adapted to stand alone PV system with 1kW capacity and lead storage batteries are connected to the PV generation system. The number of lead storage batteries was 10 in series and 12V/250Ah each. Resistive load with 3kW was used for discharging.

Multi Remote Control of Ship's Emergency Lighting Power Supply (선박 비상조명 전원장치의 다중 원격제어)

  • This paper describes the improvement of power control characteristics of ship's emergency lighting power supply(SELPS), by which electric power is controlled extensively, and power ON-OFF is controlled and system parameter monitored in remote distance by PC serial communication. Proposed system is composed of step-down converter(SDC), emergency power supply circuit(EPSC), half bridge(HB) inverter, fluorescent lamp(FL) starting circuit, microprocessor control and multi communication circuit. Experimental works confirm that relative system stops when over current is detected and speedy and stable emergency power is supplied when main power source cut-off, and controls input power up to 35[$\%$] by adjusting pulse frequency of the HB inverter, and ON-OFF control of multiple SELS, real time transmission and monitor of parameters as to voltage, current, and power values are performed appropriately by PC communication.
