A Study on the Potential and Requirements in Shipping Companies with RFID Technology

  • This study intends to surveyrequirements for port and logistics supply chain management with RFID {Radio Frequency IDentification)technology. Port and logistics supply chain management has become a critical issue due to the necessity of efficiency, visibility, trace-ability, etc. Since the introduction of RFID technology, its performance, reliability, validity, and safety have been a concern in most industries. Particularly, in port and logistics supply chain management, RFID has the potential to track the movement of containers and to provide in-transit visibility toward customers. In thispaper we consider some critical issues related to port and logistics supply chain management, which previously adopted RFID technology. In order to successfully design and adopt RFID technology and utilize it as optimally as is possible in the port and logistics industry, it is necessary to understand the potential of shipping companies and their requirements in adopting RFID technology in port and logistics.

  • Due to the growth of container traffic and port competition, ports have increasingly been under pressure to improve their efficiency in port operation and port management for competitive edge. The purpose of this study is to compare the technical efficiency among major container terminals in China, Korea and Singapore using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). This paper analyses the returns-to-scale using the output orientation of VRS and CRS model. The benefits of this study examining the relative performance of container terminals will enable container terminal operating companies or port policy makers in those countries to identify current slacks and to set up a proper port management and operation plan to improve their productivity.

  • This study deals with legal issues and solutions for a successful management of the Busan Port Authority(BPA) and proposes Busan Metropolitan City Ordinance for the effectiveness of BPA because the role of BPA is to improve Busan regional economy and to strengthen the competitiveness of Busan Port. In order to prepare the ordinance, this paper suggests that the current legislation related to Port Authority(PA), which empowers central government to control the management of port, should be amended to strengthen the port autonomy by allowing PA and local government to control the management and operation on port independently and enabling the building of cooperative system from the City for BPA.

  • Purpose - Purpose of paper is to clarify this PPP((Public Private Partnerships)'s essence and advantages as well as disadvantages, and then it will take it out some conclusions and implication together. To do so, PPP should be examined carefully and then landlord port will be investigated in view of PPP, then, it will give some implications whether or not PPP is successful to apply more port in concern. Research Design, data, and methodology - The methodology that I take is to look into both PPPs and then to look intp landlord port in view of PPP. By doing so, it can be more understandable to PPP in port industry. Results - It can be found that landlord port system is more valuable and applicable instrument to adapt for port competitiveness and productivity, which leads to efficient port management. Conclusions - Landlord port system is an alternative instrument to be apply to port management in terms of PPP, and it has been justified that many worldclass port has taken this landlord port management system.

한.일간 항만관리 형태의 비교분석 (Comparative Analysis on Port Management Type between Korea and Japan)

  • 한국과 일본은 가장 가까운 이웃 나라이면서 한국은 일본의 식민지를 거친 경험을 갖고 있어 항만관리제도에 있어서도 일본의 영향을 가장 많이 받았다고 할 수 있다. 양국의 항만관리 형태를 비교해 보면 정부기관에 의한 항만관리형태와 기업성을 가미한 항만공사제를 채택하고 있는 점은 같으나 그 관리주체와 성격에 있어서는 다른 점을 알 수 있다. 또한 항만이 지향하는 목표와 기능면에서도 상이하다. 본 논문에서의 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현재 부산항과 인천항에만 시행하고 있는 항만공사제도를 광양항과 평택당진항으로 확대시행 할 것과 둘째, 항만공사제도를 시행하고 있지 아니한 항만에도 지자체와의 협력체제를 강화할 것 셋째, 항만공사가 주체가 되어 국제허브항으로의 발전에 필요한 마켓팅전략을 수립 시행해야 한다는 것이다.

Study on the Relationship and Validity of the Management Evaluation Factors in Public Firms With a Focus on the Port Authorities

  • According to the results of the management evaluation of the nation's public firms over the past seven years, the rating of the port corporation is generally insufficient. According to the results of the seven-year study 2011-2017, the average debt ratio of the port corporation was 34.5%, two to three times lower than that of the general public company, the operating profit ratio of sales was three times higher, and the value added per person was 1.6-1.9 times better. However, the aggregate score and grade were generally low, with 4.1% of the total number of employees of the general public corporation, 10% of the average total assets, and 1% of the average sales volume. The distributed analysis results and panel return analysis results show that the size significantly impacts the overall score and grade. Additionally, major business standards such as port volume, not controlled by the port corporation, appear to have a decisive influence on the low grade of the port corporation. Thus, it appears that improvement and supplementation of key business indicators of port construction are urgently needed in the management evaluation system, which can be properly controlled.

인천항 비상용 근로자의 재해분석 및 예방대책에 관한 연구 (A Study on Cargo Handling Accident Analysis and Prevention for irregular employee in Incheon Port)

  • The port, differently from general working place, is a closed area to execute security, customs, and quarantine procedures. The loading and unloading is being done differently by cargoes, ships, berths, and equipments. To load and unload a lot of equipments and different types of labor are required, in which work flow is very complicated. As above mentioned the port is very unique and deteriorated working place including danger. Now frequency of cargo handling accidents in port is highest for the second time among all industries. The purpose of this study is to propose ways to analyze and establish the preventive measure for cargo handling accidents in port. We have collected 45 accidents happened at Incheon Port during the period from 2007 to 2009. And the result of analysis, we proposed the new safety management system and safety education to reduce cargo handling accidents and to promote the quality of cargo handling in Incheon Port. Within the framework of effective safety management of cargo handling in port, this study will help to revise and establish system, education, and standard working manual with respect to the port loading and unloading system.

항만 경쟁력제고를 위한 항만물류기능과 항만품질수준간의 관련성 분석 (An Analysis of the Relationship between the Port-Logistics Function and Port-Quality for the Competitiveness of Port)

  • Since the mid 1980s, the concept of logistics has become more important to the enterprises in strategic sense because it had aggrandized itself to more comprehensive and integrative concept. Therefore study on the service organization of the logistics system for customer’s satisfaction from the management’s point has been focused as one of the major subject in order to improve the logistics quality which would ultimately increase the value of logistics service. This study has been focused on what the port logistics functions and the factors of the port logistics quality are those Korean port managers acknowledge as important factor. And examins these port logistics quality levels and the port logistics value (port productivity, service results) obtained by the results of these activities while reviewing the relation of the custom value which the port managers evaluate in order to evaluate and promote the competitiveness of the Korean port. According to the study results the port logistics function which the Pusan Container Terminal managers recognized as important were customer service management the flexibility of the port facilities and curtailment of the original operation cost of the port. It also indicated that the managers recognized the importance of the customer-oriented terminal management as it showed a close relationship with the port quality level.

항만 e-트랜스포메이션 동향과 추진 문제점에 관한 연구 (Research on Port e-Transformation and Obstacles of its Performance)

  • Port e-Transformation would employ new technologies such as CRM, SCM, ERP to all the port facilities and improve the efficiency of management for ports. In this paper, firstly, we analyze classification organization of Port e-Transformation technology. Secondly, understand the current situation on each component of Port e-Transformation. Thirdly, present tasks for each component of it. Finally, propose problems and its solving methods for these tasks. However, rationalization of management for internal structure occurred during process of Port e-Transformation and new adjustment of laws related to port are not included in this paper.

항만 인프라 재해와 노후화 관리를 위한 디지털 트윈 적용 절차에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Procedure for Applying Digital Twin to Disaster and Aging Management of Port Infrastructure)

  • 우리나라 항만 인프라는 공용연수가 30년이 넘은 노후 항만시설물은 2019년 약 23%에서 2029년에는 47%로 증가하여 노후화가 빠르게 진행되고 있다. 오래된 기존의 항만은 경쟁력을 상실하고 항만 인프라의 발전을 저하하며 시설물에 대한 인적자원 기반 유지보수에 따른 인명사고가 증가한다. 이러한 문제를 디지털 트윈 기반의 체계적인 관리 기술 구축으로 해결하고자 한다. 본 연구는 항만 인프라의 재해와 노후화 현황과 스마트 항만의 사례를 살펴본 뒤 스마트 항만 기술이 반영된 디지털 트윈 구현 단계를 구체적으로 제시하고자 한다. 항만 인프라 연계 시스템을 분석하고 디지털 트윈 구현에 필수적인 시나리오를 작성하여 맵핑을 한다. 재해와 노후화 관리를 위한 3D 모델링과 시뮬레이션 데이터를 수집하여 디지털 트윈을 구현하며 항만 인프라에서 획득한 센싱 데이터, 영상 데이터 등의 데이터를 실시간으로 연동하여 상황별 항만 디지털 트윈 시뮬레이션 구현한다. 항만 인프라 재해와 노후화 관리를 위한 디지털 트윈 항만을 구현하는 경우 실시간 통합관제로 예지적인 항만 인프라 관리로 할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 재해에 관한 안전을 확보할 수 있다.
