  • In the case of domestic coastal ships, an information system for the purpose of managing cargo loading, securing, and inspection processes is not in operation. It presents functional elements that meet the service requirements for information systems for more efficient execution of ship loading and unloading services at port. This is a study on the information system that manages the process of reservation, onboard arrangement, securing and inspection of sea freight.

  • The demands of complicated data communications have issued a new challenge to port logistics systems. Customers expect ports to handle their generated administrative data while a vessel is docked in a port. One port logistics system, known as the Vessel Clearance Process (VCP), manages large numbers of documents related to port of entry. In the VCP, information flows through many organizations such as the port authority, shipping agents, marine offices, immigration offices, and others. Therefore, for effective management of the Business Process (BP) of the VCP, a standardized method of BP modeling is essential, especially in heterogeneous system environments. In a port, according to port policy, terms and data are sued that are similar to but different from those of other logistics partners, which hinders standardized modeling of the BP. In order to avoid tedious and time-consuming document customization work, more convenient modeling of BP for VCP is essential. This paper proposes an ontology-based process similarity measurement to assist designer for process modeling in port domain, especially VCP. We expect that this methodology will use convenient and quick modeling of port business processes.

Improving Covariance Based Adaptive Estimation for GPS/INS Integration

  • It is well known that the uncertainty of the covariance parameters of the process noise (Q) and the observation errors (R) has a significant impact on Kalman filtering performance. Q and R influence the weight that the filter applies between the existing process information and the latest measurements. Errors in any of them may result in the filter being suboptimal or even cause it to diverge. The conventional way of determining Q and R requires good a priori knowledge of the process noises and measurement errors, which normally comes from intensive empirical analysis. Many adaptive methods have been developed to overcome the conventional Kalman filter's limitations. Starting from covariance matching principles, an innovative adaptive process noise scaling algorithm has been proposed in this paper. Without artificial or empirical parameters to be set, the proposed adaptive mechanism drives the filter autonomously to the optimal mode. The proposed algorithm has been tested using road test data, showing significant improvements to filtering performance.

  • In this study, as the preliminary step for developing an unmanned vehicle to deliver a container-box, we designed and implemented Automatic Guided Vehicle(AGV) Simulator for the purpose of Port Facilities Automation. It is preferable to research the intelligent AGV for delivery all day long. For complementing AGV simulator driving, we used multiple-sensor systems with vision, ultrasonic, IR and adapted the high-speed wireless LAN that satisfies the IEEE 802.11 Standard for bi-directional communication between main processor in AGV and Host computer. Here, we mounted on bottom frame in AGV Pentium-III processor, which combine and compute the information from each sensor system and control the AGV driving, and used the 80C196KC micro-controller to control the actuating and steering motors.

Re-Configurable tow-toss OADM Module Using 2×2 Port Optical Device

  • We describe the optimal design and the fabrication of a 2$\times$2 port optical device based on the thin film filter (TFF), and also propose a 4-channel OADM module using these devices. The optical performance of the proposed OADM module is evaluated theoretically and experimentally, and is compared to that of typical OADM modules using 1$\times$2 port optical devices for 4, 8, 16 and 32 drop channels in optical transmission systems. Since the 2$\times$2 port optical device accomplishes the function of wavelength multiplexing and demultiplexing simultaneously in the proposed OADM module, the insertion loss of through channels can be improved by 1.2 dB compare to that of typical OADM modules using 1$\times$2 port optical devices. In addition, both the size and the price of the module can be reduced to 40~50%.

  • Port State Control (PSC) is the inspection of foreign ships in national ports for the purpose of verifying th\ulcorner the condition of the ships and its equipments comply with the requirement of international conventions and the ship is manned and operated in compliance with applicable international laws. On the other hand, check items in PSC are nearly similar to periodical survey of Classification Societies, because they have the same background regarding safety and maritime pollution prevention. The purpose of this study is to develope computer-aided information systems for ship inspection item which is useful for effective implementation of Port State Control. For this work, the status of PSC is reviewed, and the related scheme of ship survey system in Classification Societies is investigated. On these bases, a computer software integrated database system and object-oriented technique is developed. The developed system is expected helpful to establish and maintain an effective system of Port State Control.

Embedded RF Test Circuits: RF Power Detectors, RF Power Control Circuits, Directional Couplers, and 77-GHz Six-Port Reflectometer

  • Modern integrated circuits (ICs) are becoming an integrated parts of analog, digital, and radio frequency (RF) circuits. Testing these RF circuits on a chip is an important task, not only for fabrication quality control but also for tuning RF circuit elements to fit multi-standard wireless systems. In this paper, RF test circuits suitable for embedded testing are introduced: RF power detectors, power control circuits, directional couplers, and six-port reflectometers. Various types of embedded RF power detectors are reviewed. The conventional approach and our approach for the RF power control circuits are compared. Also, embedded tunable active directional couplers are presented. Then, six-port reflectometers for embedded RF testing are introduced including a 77-GHz six-port reflectometer circuit in a 130 nm process. This circuit demonstrates successful calibrated reflection coefficient simulation results for 37 well distributed samples in a Smith chart. The details including the theory, calibration, circuit design techniques, and simulations of the 77-GHz six-port reflectometer are presented in this paper.

  • Modeling of systems for intensive knowledge-based processing requires a modeling methodology that makes efficient access to the information in huge data base models. The proposed level access mothodology is a modeling approach applicable to systems where data is stored in a hierarchical and modular modules of active memory cells(processor/memory pairs). It significantly reduces the effort required to create discrete event simulation models constructed in hierarchical, modular fashion for above application. Level access mothodology achieves parallel access to models within the modular, hierarchical modules(clusters) by broadcasting the desired operations(e.g. querying information, storing data and so on) to all the cells below a certain desired hierarchical level. Level access methodology exploits the capabilities of object-oriented programming to provide a flexible communication paradigm that combines port-to-port coupling with name-directed massaging. Several examples are given to illustrate the utility of the methodology.
