  • Gas nitriding is a surface hardening process where nitrogen is introduced into the surface of a ferrous alloy. During fusion welding of nitrided carbon steel, the nitride inside weld metal is dissolved and generates nitrogen gas, which causes porosities - blow holes and pits. In this study, several laser welding processes such as weaving welding, two-pass welding, dual beam welding and laser-arc hybrid welding were investigated to elongate the weld pool to enhance nitrogen gas evacuation. The surface pits were successfully eliminated with elongated weld pool. However blowholes inside the weld metal were effective reduced but not fully disappeared.

  • Fee vibrational characteristics of porous steel double-coupled nanoplate system in thermo-elastic medium is studied via a refined plate model. Different pore dispersions called uniform, symmetric and asymmetric have been defined. Nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) containing two scale parameters has been adopted to stablish size-dependent modeling of the system. Hamilton's principle has been adopted to stablish the governing equations. Obtained results from Galerkin's method are verified with those provided in the literature. The effects of nonlocal parameter, strain gradient, foundation parameters, porosity distributions and porosity coefficient on vibration frequencies of metal foam nanoscale plates have been examined.

  • We report on the effects of mixing of powders with various particle sizes on fracture toughness and wear resistance of thermally sprayed WC-10Co-4Cr coating layers fabricated by HVOF (high-velocity oxygen fuel) process. The size and the mixing ratio of powders were changed in order to get high fracture toughness and wear resistance. The mixing of small amount of coarse powders with fine powders resulted in the highest fracture toughness and wear resistance due to the lowest porosity in coating layers.

  • This paper reveals theoretical research to the nonlinear dynamic response and initial geometric imperfections sensitivity of the spinning graphene platelets reinforced metal foams (GPLRMF) cylindrical shell under different boundary conditions in thermal environment. For the theoretical research, with the framework of von-Karman geometric nonlinearity, the GPLRMF cylindrical shell model which involves Coriolis acceleration and centrifugal acceleration caused by spinning motion is assumed to undergo large deformations. The coupled governing equations of motion are deduced using Euler-Lagrange principle and then solved by a combination of Galerkin's technique and modified Lindstedt Poincare (MLP) model. Furthermore, the impacts of a set of parameters including spinning velocity, initial geometric imperfections, temperature variation, weight fraction of GPLs, GPLs distribution pattern, porosity distribution pattern, porosity coefficient and external excitation amplitude on the nonlinear harmonic resonances of the spinning GPLRMF cylindrical shells are presented.

  • In this paper, a nanobeam connected to a rotating molecular hub is considered. The vibration behavior of rotating functionally graded nanobeam based on Eringen's nonlocal theory and Euler-Bernoulli beam model is investigated. Furthermore, axial preload and porosity effect is studied. It is supposed that the material attributes of the functionally graded porous nanobeam, varies continuously in the thickness direction according to the power law model considering the even distribution of porosities. Porosity at the nanoscopic length scale can affect on the rotating functionally graded nanobeams dynamics. The equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions are derived through the Hamilton's principle and generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is utilized to solve the equations. In this paper, the influences of some parameters such as functionally graded power (FG-index), porosity parameter, axial preload, nonlocal parameter and angular velocity on natural frequencies of rotating nanobeams with pure ceramic, pure metal and functionally graded materials are examined and some comparisons about the influence of various parameters on the natural frequencies corresponding to the simply-simply, simplyclamped, clamped-clamped boundary conditions are carried out.

  • The effect of welding condition on microstructure and mechanical property of Plasma-MIG Hybrid Weld between Al 5083 plates(thickness : 10mm) was investigated. 1 pass weld without any defects such as puckering, undercut, and lack of fusion was obtained by 150~200A of plasma current and 5~7mm of welding speed. Gas porosities and shrinkage porosities were existed in the weld near fusion line. As welding speed and plasma current were decreasing, the area fraction of porosity was increasing. The hardness of the weld is increasing as welding speed. On the basis of microstructural analysis, Mg segregated region near dendrite boundaries tends to increase with the welding speed. In the result of hardness test, Distribution of hardness in fusion zone showed little change with the plasma current. However, when the welding speed increased, hardness in weld metal markdly increased. It could be considered that effect of heat input to growth of the dendritic solidification structures. Based on tensile test, tensile properties of weld metal was predominated by area fraction of porosities. Consequently, tensile properties can be controlled by formation site and area fraction of porosity.

  • Advancement of technique in the $21^{st}$ century has enabled us to combine designs through diversification of materials and academic liaison, which has brought about alteration of variety of desires in our lives. Consequently, visual concern along with harmony of functional roles allows development of design that matches one's own Individuality, in which case is becoming the subject of interest. Currently, designs are being developed using various materials. This trend respects personal sensitivity and taste and thus becoming diversified. As a result of elevated standard of living, health and individuality are becoming highly concerned and accordingly, fragrance is being developed in various forms to match personal taste and character, such as one's own memory and sensitivity. Hence, I am to propose a conjugation plan about men's adornments that deviates from women's secondary design and expresses only men's character and sensitivity. First, I will engraft porosity metal with adornments and use materials that has aroma and direction of way of wearing it. Then, I will engraft visual design with the olfactory sensation to apply to ornaments, using mechanical traits and materials with aesthetic elements, which will meet the customers' sensuous demand

  • The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of porosity on the buckling behavior of thick functionally graded sandwich plate resting on various boundary conditions under different in-plane loads. The formulation is made for a newly developed sandwich plate using a functional gradient material based on a modified power law function of symmetric and asymmetric configuration. Four different porosity distribution are considered and varied in accordance with material propriety variation in the thickness direction of the face sheets of sandwich plate, metal foam also is considered in this study on the second model of sandwich which containing metal foam core and FGM face sheets. New quasi-3D high shear deformation theory is used here for this investigate; the present kinematic model introduces only six variables with stretching effect by adopting a new indeterminate integral variable in the displacement field. The stability equations are obtained by Hamilton's principle then solved by generalized solution. The effect of Pasternak and Winkler elastic foundations also including here. the present model validated with those found in the open literature, then the impact of different parameters: porosities index, foam cells distribution, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, power law index, ratio aspect, side-to-thickness ratio and different in-plane axial loads on the variation of the buckling behavior are demonstrated.

  • In this paper, we study about wear properties for the metal matrix composites fabricated by low pressure infiltration process. Metal fiber preform reinforced aluminum alloy composite were fabricated by low pressure casting process under 0.4MPa. Infiltration condition was changed the pressure infiltration time of 1 s, 2 s and 5 s under a constant pressure of 0.4MPa. The molten alloy completely infiltrated the FeCrSi metal perform regardless of the increase in the pressure acceleration time. However, the infiltration time at the pressure acceleration time of 1s was shorter than at the pressure acceleration time of 2s or 5s. The FeCrSi/A366.0 composite was investigated the porosity. The porosity is reducing as the pressure acceleration time compared with the pressure acceleration time of 2s and 5s. The FeCrSi/A366.0 composites were investigated the wear resistance. FeCrSi/A366.0 composite at pressure acceleration time of 1s has excellent wear resistance.
