Porcelain is considered to be one of the materials of choice for restoration where esthetics is of concern. But porcelain surface without final glazing treatment may induce undesirable results such as inflammatory response on adjacent soft tissues due to plaque accumulation and increased wear of opposing teeth. Therefore, rough porcelain surface must be smoothened by final glazing treatment or chairside polishing procedure. The purpose of this study was to compare the surface roughness among self-glazed, overglazed and polished porcelain with various polishing kit, and to detect which phase of polishing is optimal in clinic. Specimens were fabricated with Vita VMK porcelain. The surface treatment of each group was performed as follows. Group 1 : overglazing treatment Group 2 : self-glazing treatment Group 3 : polishing with the Truluster Polishing System for Porcelain(Brasseler, U.S.A.) Group 4 : polishing with the Exa Cerapol Adjustment kit (Edenta dental products, Switzerland) followed by finishing with diamond-filled polishing paste Group 5 : polishing with the Shofu Porcelain Adjustment kit (Shofu inc., Japan) followed by finishing with diamond-filled polishing paste. At each polishing steps, the measurement of Ra and Rq values were performed, and the surface was examined by scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : 1. Overglazing treatment brought smoother surface than self-glazing treatment. 2. Polishing systems without porcelain polishing paste did not make better result than self-glazing treatment. 3. Polishing system with porcelain polishing paste made similar result to overglazing treatment. 4. Applying diamond-filled polishing paste after using polishing system which has no porcelain polishing paste produced surface as smooth as overglazing treatment does.
Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain is famous for its unique form and colour of cobalt. It is said to be producted from the late of 14th Century to now. Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain of 14th Century has a Mum design similar to that of Blue and White Porcelain of 14th Century in China. The Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain of 15th, 16th Century was trade Ceramics which were shipped overseas. A base, having a dated inscription corresponding to 1450 and kept in the Topkapi Saray Museum is the best example of Vietnamese trade ceramics. The Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain of 15th, 16th Century was a substitute for Chinese trade ceramics in these times when China had a police of the closure of China borderers to sea trade to protect China and was exported to the western Asia and the Southeast Asia. In recent, Fustat relics of Egypt was excavated the Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain. It means that Vietnamese Ceramics of 15th, 16th Century was substitute for Chinese trade ceramics. In addition, Thai Blue celadon of 15th Century was exported to the western Asia as like Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain. But when a police of the closure of China borderers to sea trade in China was stopped in the late of 16th Century and Chinese Ceramics were reborn in the same time, the Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain was declined as trade items.
Statement of problem: Titanium and its alloy, with their excellent bio-compatibility and above average resistance to corrosion, have been widely used in the field of dentistry. However, the excessive oxidization of titanium which occurs during the process of firing on porcelain makes the bonding of titanium and porcelain more difficult than that of the conventional metal-porcelain bonding. To solve this problem related to titanium-porcelain bonding, several methods which modify the surfaces, coat the surfaces of titanium with various pure metals and ceramics, to enable the porcelain adhesive by limiting the diffusion of oxygen and forming the adhesive oxides surfaces, have been investigated. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to know whether the titanium-porcelain bonding strength could be enhanced by treating the titanium surface with gold and TiN followed by fabrication of clinically applicable porcelain-fused-to-titanium crown Material and method: The porcelain-fused-to-titanium crown was fabricated after sandblasting the surface of the casting titanium coping with $Al_2O_3$ and treating the surface with gold and TiN coating followed by condensation and firing of ultra-low fusing porcelain. To compare with porcelain-fused-to-titanium crowns, porcelain-fused-to-gold crowns were fabricated and used as control groups. The bonding strengths of porcelain-fused-to-gold crowns and porcelain-fused-totitanium crowns were set for comparison when the porcelain was fractured on purpose to get the experimental value of fracture strength. Then, the surface were examined by SEM and each fracturing pattern were compared with each other Result:Those results are as follows. 1. The highest value of fracture strength of porcelain-fused-to-titanium crowns was in the order of group with gold coating, group with TiN coating, group with $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting. No statistically significant difference was found among the three (P>.05). 2. The porcelain-fused-to-gold crowns showed the highest value in bonding strength. The bonding strength of crowns porcelain-fused-to-titanium crowns of rest groups showed bonding strength reaching only 85%-94% of that of PFG, though simple comparision seemed unacceptable due to the difference in materials used. 3. The fracturing patterns between metal and porcelain showed mixed type of failure behavior including cohesive failure and adhesive failure as a similar patterns by examination with the naked eye and SEM. But porcelain-fused-to-gold crowns showed high incidence of adhesive failure and porcelain-fused-to-titanium crowns showed high incidence of cohesive failure. Conclusion: Above results proved that when fabricating porcelain-fused-to-titanium crowns, treating casting titanium surface with gold or TiN was able to enhance the bonding strength between titanium and porcelain. Mean value of masticatory force was found to showed clinically acceptable values in porcelain bonding strength in all three groups. However, more experimental studies and evaluations should be done in order to get better porcelain bonding strength and various surface coating methods that can be applied on titanium surface with ease.

Although various kinds of porcelain restorations, including full porcelain jacked crowns and laminate crowns, are used for Esthetic Dentistry nowadays, the most widely used one so far is porcelain metal restoration. It goes without saying that shade matching in porcelain-metal restoration is much more difficult than in full ceramic veneer restoration because of the metal substructure limitation of the porcelain to metal restoration and then let it go even when shade matching is a little bit unsatisfactory. I think a more satisfactory shade matching can be achieved by developing more elaborate techniques, by selecting proper metal and porcelain and by enabling more detailed communication between the dentists and the dental technicians. Some considerations will be made in an attempt to achieve more successful outputs.
Although dental porcelain demonstrates lasting esthetic results, it suffers from inherent brittle fractures. Various techniques and materials for intraoral porcelain repair has been suggested. This study investigated the in vitro shear strength of three porcelain repair systems according to aspects of the porcelain fractures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of three porcelain repair systems(All-bond, Clearfil, Scotchprime) according to fractured surface of porcelain - fused - to - metal restorations. For this study specimens were divided into five groups : group 1 represented fracture occurred at body porcelain layer, group 2 represented fracture occurred at opaque porcelain layer, group 3 represented fracture including 1/3 of metal exposure, group 4 represented fracture including 2/3 of metal exposure, and group 5 represented all metal surface was exposed. Specimens were stored in double deionized water(24Hr, $37^{\circ}C$) and thermocycling was performed(24Hr, 1080cycles), and subjected to a shear force parallel to the repair resin and porcelain interface by use of an University Testing Machine. The results of this study were obtained as follows : 1. In group 1 and 2, bond strength was relatively high, and bond strength showing reducing tendency as exposure of metal was increased. 2. In group 1, bond strength was relatively high, and no significant differences in porcelain repair system. 3. In group 2, 3 and 4, All-bond and Clearfil provided significantly higher bond strength than scotchprime. 4. In group 5, bond strength was the lowest among all groups and especially in case if Scotchprime. 5. Cohesive failure was observed in group 1 and 2, adhesive failure was observed in group 5, and cohesive / adhesive failures were observed in group 3 and 4.

Need of porcelain-repair system is largely demanding as dental porcelain restorations are increased in clinical dentistry. This study investigated shear bond strength of commercial porcelain-repair systems on dental porcelain and their reliability. Experimental groups were as follows; Group A Super Bond C&B, Group B Porcelain repair kit, Group C Ceramic repair, and Group D Spectrum system as a control. Porcelain disks were fired and embedded in epoxy resin. Porcelain surface were ground using 220 grit SiC disk, then cleaned in ultrasonic bath. Then porcelain specimens were treated with each repair system. A clear polystyrene cylinder 3.5 mm in internal diameter was filled with composite resin. Then the resin cylinder was polymerized with a visible light curing unit. Thirty one specimens at each group were prepared and stored at $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 48 h. Specimens were tested in an Instron testing machine according to ISO TR 11405. Mean shear bond strength and standard deviation of each group was $15.7{\pm}4.1MPa$ (Group A), $12.8{\pm}4.9MPa$ (Group B), $7.2{\pm}3.0MPa$ (Group C) and $9.6{\pm}2.2MPa$ (Group D). ANOVA and Tukey HSD post-hoc test showed that there were significant differences between groups (p<0.05). Data of bond strength were analyzed with two-parameter Weibull distribution. Confidence interval of Weibull modulus (m-parameter) at 95% of Group A (3.5-6.3) and Group D (3.6-6.0) were significantly higher than Group B (2.2-3.7) and Group C (2.0-3.4). There was little correlation between mean shear bond strength and Weibull modulus. Results indicated that acid-etching of porcelain surface increased porcelain-resin shear bonding strength.
This study evaluated shear bond strength between porcelain and resin cement according to various surface treatments of porcelain, and surface condition of debonded porcelain. 50 porcelain specimens(Celay block A2M7) and composite resin specimens(Clearfil Photo-Bright) were prepared, and divided into 5 experimental groups according to the treatment method of porcelain surface. 5 experimental groups by surface treatments were as follows; CONTROL Group : No surface treatment was done on the surface of porcelains. SAND Group : The surface of porcelains were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide for 5 seconds. HF Group: The surface of porcelains were etched with 8% Hydrofluoric acid for 4 minutes. SIL Group: The surface of porcelains were coated with silane coupling agent and heated at $100^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes. SAND+HF+SIL Group : The surface of porcelains were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide for 5 seconds and etched with 8% Hydrofluoric acid for 4 minutes, and coated with silane coupling agent and heated at $100^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes. After surface treatments on the prepared porcelain surface two pastes of Panavia 21$^{(R)}$ were mixed, they were applied between composite resin block and porcelain surface, and then excessive resin cements were removed, and its margin was surrounded with Oxyguard II. All specimens were stored for 24 hours in water at $37^{\circ}C$ and tested with Instron testing machine between porcelains and resin cements, and debonded porcelain surfaces were observed under Scanning Electon Microscope(Hitachi S-2300) at 20kvp. The values from each group were compared statistically by Student's t-test. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The shear bond strength without surface treatment of porcelain was the lowest among all experimental groups(p<0.05). 2. The detached porcelain surface with sandblasting alone had more remarkable cracks than with only Hydrofluoric Acid or Silane coupling 2gent, but showed the lowest value of shear bond strength among surface treated groups(p<0.05), 3. When porcelain surface was treated by hydrofluoric acid, it affected shear bond strength more than silane coupling agent, but there were no significant statistical differences(p>0.05). 4. When three methods were combined to increase shear bond strength between porcelains and resin cements, its value was the highest than the others(p<0.05). 5. In Scannig Electron Micrograph of detached porcelain surface with no treatment, the sample revealed adhesive failure between the porcelain and resin cement whereas detached porcelain surface with combination of three method cohesive failure on the porcelain.
This study is the know the difference bond strength according to painting method of Opaque porcelain. Among Porcelain powder for Porcelain, Noritake powder, Bonding agent 1 class and metal are selected as Base metal alloy. And painting method of Opaque porcelain is divided by 4 groups : PG, WG, NG and DG. Also it is to manufacture 24 sheets of Specimen by 6 each every method and to measure Crack-initiation Strength of Metal-porcelain and it is to observe it by Scanning electron microscope. I come to get a conclusion as follows. 1. As for Debonding strength of every experiment groups, it showed that WS group which executed Wash bake had highest value, 44.25MPa and NG group which used Normal powder had value, 42.11MPa and DG group which used Bonding agent had value, 35.88MPa and PG group which used Paste opaque had value, 35.39MPa. 2. In four painting methods of Opaque porcelain, PG group, WG group, NG group and DG group, there is no significant difference statistically in Crack-initiation Strength. 3. As a result of observing fracture surface with Scanning electron microscope, it was showde that PG group remained a lot of particle of porcelain on the surface of metal than WG group, NG group and DG group.
In this study, We tried to find out the fracture strength of zirconia coping all ceramic crown and collarless porcelain fused gold alloy crown as the compared group. Each of the collarless porcelain fused gold crown and zirconia all ceramic crown has been produced specimen 10 each. And after pasting them on the steel jig, it had load given at porcelain incisal edge by 130$^{\circ}$ and measured fracture strength by Universal Testing Machine and then We have results from that. 1. The average value of fracture strength suggested 950.49 N at collarless porcelain fused gold alloy crown, 656.81 N at zirconia coping all ceramic crown. 2. Fractured pattern showed that the whole of labial part was exposed in collarless porcelain fused gold crown, but porcelain of margin part did not show fracture in advance. In the practice, the concern that collarless might cause fracture strength to be weaken does not matter, we concluded zirconia all ceramic crown made fracture that only a part of labial porcelain was fractured. The combination of zirconia all ceramic crown and turned out to be excellent.

Hybrid insulators that have the advantages of both porcelain (high mechanical strength and chemical stability) as well as polymer (light weight and high resistance to pollution) insulators, can be used in place of individual porcelain and polymer insulators that are used for both mechanical support as well as electrical insulation of overhead power transmission lines. The most significant feature of hybrid insulators is the presence of porcelain/polymer interfaces where the porcelain and polymer are physically bonded. Individual porcelain and polymer insulators do not have such porcelain/polymer interfaces. Although the interface is expected to affect the mechanical/electrical properties of the hybrid insulator, systematic studies of the adhesion properties at the porcelain/polymer interface and the effect of the interface on the insulation characteristics and electric field distribution of the hybrid insulator have not been reported. In this study, we fabricated small hybrid insulator specimens with various types of interfaces and investigated the effect of the porcelain/polymer interface on the microstructure, insulating characteristics, and electric field distribution of the hybrid insulators. It was observed that the porcelain/polymer interface of the hybrid insulator does not have a significant effect on the insulating characteristics and electric field distribution, and the hybrid insulator can exhibit electrical insulating properties that are similar or superior to those of individual porcelain and polymer insulators.
