Stimulatory Effects of Extracts of Inner Bark from Tabebuia avellanedae on Exercise Endurance Capacity (Tabebuia avellanedae 추출물의 운동능력 향상 효과)

  • The effects of Tabebuia avellanedae (Taheebo) on exercise endurance capacity were investigated using mice in an adjustable-current water pool. Compared to the control group, a 1.8~2.0 fold increase in swimming time was observed in mice administered hot water extract (TAW) and 80% ethanol extract (TAE) of inner bark from T. avellanedae. Blood lactate level, an important fatigue relevance factor, was significantly lower in the TAW and TAE groups than in the control group. The total phenolic contents of TAW and TAE were $93.3{\pm}1.6$ and $115.7{\pm}1.5mgGAE/g$, respectively. The levels of flavonoids in the extracts were $77.3{\pm}1.3$ and $95.9{\pm}1.7mgCE/g$, respectively. Higher antioxidant activities of TAE were observed in each assay at the same concentration as compared to TAW. Correlation between antioxidant activities of TAE with total polyphenol contents was observed. These results suggest that extracts of Taheebo increase exercise endurance capacity by elevating antioxidative potentials.

A Study on the Actual Conditionis and Improvement Plan of Interior Landscape in the Subway Stations (지하철역내의 실내조경현황과 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual conditions, to find problems, and to present an improvement plan of interior landscape in the subway stationis. Moreoiver, it will presume the possibilties to develop the subway and ways to utilie underground space effectively. The results are summarized as follows A light intensity was recorded 0-100 Lux as the lowest light and 500 Lux below as the highest in 61 subway stations. An average temperature of 12 $^{\circ}C$and an air humidity of 38% were recorded over a 4 month period from January to April, but includes a drastic variaton between -8.5$^{\circ}C$ and 21.5$^{\circ}C$. Soil acidity of pH 7 below and soil moisture of 1-2 wet degree were apeared in subway stations mostly. Plant forms consisted of artificial flower & flower. Plant species were recorded at a total of 54 species and appeared in the order of Araucaria heteropylla, Ophiophogon jaburan, Aspidistra elatior cv. 'Asahi' and Hedera helix. Plant height was, for the most part, below 0.5m. Plant species that was fined of conditions were Palm, Camellia japonica, Araucaria heterophylla as a high plant, dracaena fragrans, dracaena deremensis cv. Wakneckii as a middle plant, and Ophiopogon jaburan, Hedra helix, ytomium falcatum, Aspidistra elatior cv. Asahi as a low plant. It used to water materials such as small pool, small cascade, water cycles and natural materials such as natural rock, small rock, sand, bark and animal materials such as squirrels, birds, goldfish as an object for plants in the subway stations. From these actual conditions, First of all, It must make up physical environments such as light, temperature humidity, soil for plant growth, and is important to chooce suitable indoor plants and draw up systematic management in the subway environments. Also, it change plants frequently and uses variable objects for subway stationi individuatism, Moreover, indoor plants with strong environmental adaptation abities such as shade tolerance, drought tolerance and cold tolerance need to develope variable species possibly. If these improvements occur, utilization and amenity of subway stationis will increase, according to the use of interior landscape.

Hydrological variability in the Han River basin during different phases of El Ni$\tilde{n}$o (서로 다른 엘니뇨 형태에 따른 한강유역의 수문학적 변동성 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 대기 순환패턴 및 수문 환경변화에 영향을 미치는 주요인자인 El Ni$\tilde{n}$o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)의 서로 다른 형태인 Warm-pool (WP) El Ni$\tilde{n}$o, Cold-tongue (CT) El Ni$\tilde{n}$o에 따른 한강유역의 봄철 (March~May)과 여름철 (June~August) 강수 및 유출의 특성을 분석하였다. 봄철 강수량의 경우, WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에 증가추세를 보이며, 강수의 변동특성 또한 크게 나타났다. 여름철 강수량의 경우, CT El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에는 평년보다 대체로 건조한 경향을 보이나, WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에는 유역 전체에서 습한 경향을 보였으며 강수의 변동성은 매우 작은 것으로 분석되었다. 봄철 유출량의 경우, CT El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기와 WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에 모두 평년치보다 크게 나타났으며, WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에 한강 남부 대부분 유역에서 유출량이 통계적으로 유의한 증가 경향을 보였다. 여름철 유출량의 경우, CT El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에는 대부분 유역에서 평년치보다 감소하나 수문 변량의 변동성은 큰 것으로 분석되었다. WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o 시기에는 거의 모든 유역에서 유출이 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 13개 중권역에서는 유출의 변동성이 작고 통계적으로 유의한 증가패턴이 분석되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 서로 다른 두가지 형태의 El Ni$\tilde{n}$o패턴에 대하여 한강유역의 봄철과 여름철 수자원 변동성에 민감하게 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인하였으며 수자원의 효율적인 예측 및 관리와 안정적인 용수공급을 위한 수문기상인자와 수문자료간의 관계 규명에 유용하게 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

  • 하천의 수심, 유속, 하상경사, 하상재료, 만곡도 등과 같은 물리적 특성에 따라 생물서식처로서 다양한 특성을 나타내고 그 특성들에 의해 서식처의 유형을 구분할 수 있다. 이러한 서식처 유형에 따라 수중음향의 특성이 달라지며, 수중음향의 서식지의 양적 표시자로서 잠재력으로 인해 최근 많은 연구들이 시도되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 인공적인 영향을 적게 받은 자연하천으로 양양 남대천 12개 지점을 대상으로 하여 서식지의 형태에 따른 수중음향과 하천의 수리적 인자에 따른 관계를 파악하고자 하였다. 서식처 유형으로는 빠른 유속에 얕은 수심을 가지고 있는 여울(riffle), 수심이 깊고 유속이 느린 소(pool), 낙차가 있는 계단형 여울(step riffle)에 대해 조사하였다. 수중배경음은 여울과 계단형 여울이 유사하게 나타났으며 소는 상대적으로 낮은 배경음을 나타내었다. H2, H4, H5, H9, H10 지점은 여울 형태로 유속에 따라 H2, H5, H4, H9 지점 순으로 음압레벨이 낮아지는 경향을 보였으며, H10지점은 H9, H4 지점에 비해 낮은 유속임에도 높은 음압레벨을 보였다. 이는 H10 지점의 하상이 조도가 매우 큰 전석으로 이루어져 나타나는 현상으로 판단된다. H3, H6, H7, H8, H12 지점은 소 형태로 H12 지점을 제외하고 대체로 낮은 음압레벨을 보였으며, H3과 H6지점에서는 저주파수에서 높은 음압레벨을 보였다. 이는 수심이 깊은 경우 상류의 저주파수의 음파가 잘 전달되기 때문으로 판단된다. H1과 H11지점은 계단형 여울로 낮은 수심에서 빠른 유속을 가진 H11지점과 느린 유속을 가진 H1 지점에서 대체로 높은 음압레벨을 나타내었다. 이는 낙차에 의한 수중음향 발생에 의한 것으로 판단된다. 세 가지 유형에 따른 수중 음향을 비교하였을 때 음압레벨은 계단형 여울, 여울, 소 순서로 높게 나타났다. 결과적으로 수중음향이 서식처의 수리적 특성에 따라 다양한 특성을 나타내고 있으며, 이를 통해 생물서식처를 평가하기 위한 새로운 방법으로 수중음향의 활용 가능성을 제시하였다.

Decay Heat Evaluation of Spent Fuel Assemblies in SFP of Kori Unit-1

  • Kori Unit 1 is the first permanent shutdown nuclear power plant in Korea and it is on June 18th, 2017. Spent fuel assemblies began to be discharged from the reactor core to the spent fuel pool(SFP) within one week after shutdown of Kori unit 1 and the campaign was completed on June 27th, 2017. The total number of spent nuclear fuel assemblies in SFP of Kori Unit-1 is 485 and their discharging date is different respectively. So, decay heat was evaluated considering the actual enrichment, operation history and cooling time of the spent fuel assemblies stored in SFP of the Kori Unit-1. The code used in the evaluation is the ORIGEN-based CAREPOOL system developed by KHNP. Decay heat calculation of PWR fuel is based on ANSI/ANS 5.1-2005, "Decay heat power in light water reactors" and ISO-10645, "Nuclear energy - Light water reactors - Calculation of the decay heat power in nuclear fuels. Also, we considered the contribution of fission products, actinide nuclides, neutron capture and radioactive material in decay heat calculation. CAREPOOL system calculates the individual and total decay heat of all of the spent fuel assemblies in SFP of Kori Unit-1. As a result, the total decay heat generated in SFP on June 28th, 2017 when the spent fuel assemblies were discharged from the reactor core, is estimated to be about 4,185.8 kw and to be about 609.5 kw on September 1st, 2018. It was also estimated that 119.6 kw is generated in 2050 when it is 32 years after the permanent shutdown. Figure 1 shows the trend of total decay heat in SFP of Kori Unit-1.

Characteristics of pressure fluctuation by plunge pool depth of intake facility in deep rainwater storage and drainage system (대심도 빗물저류배수터널 유입시설 감세지 깊이에 따른 압력변화 특성 연구)

  • 기후변화 및 도시화로 인해 도시 내에서 증가하는 홍수로 인명 및 재산피해가 꾸준히 발생하고 있다. 특히 2022년 8월 8일 서울특별시 및 경기도 지역에 내린 폭우로 인해 8명 이상의 인명피해와 1300억원 이상의 재산피해가 발생하였다. 이러한 도시홍수를 근본적으로 방어하기 위하여 미국, 일본 등의 국가에서는 대심도 빗물저류배수터널을 활용하고 있다. 국내에서도 2011년 서울특별시 강서구 및 양천구에 발생하는 홍수를 방어하기 위하여 국내 최초 대심도 빗물저류배수터널인 '신월 빗물저류배수시설'을 건설하여 현재 운영 중에 있다. 대심도 빗물저류배수터널은 초기 개수로 흐름에서 만관 후 관수로 흐름으로 전이되는 구조물로 계획과 운영이 매우 어려운 시설이다. 이에 미국, 일본, 중국, 이탈리아 등 국가에서 대심도 빗물저류배수터널과 관련한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대심도 빗물저류배수터널의 유입시설 중 감세부에 해당하는 수직갱과 감세지의 깊이에 따른 감세지 바닥 압력변화를 알아보기 위하여 수리실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 감세지 깊이가 깊어질수록 바닥면의 압력이 증가하는 것으로 분석되었으며 바닥면의 압력이 감세지 깊이만큼의 정수압을 포함하는 경우 정수압 대비 최대 2.0배, 정수압을 포함하지 않는 경우 정수압 대비 최대 1.0배 인 것으로 분석되었다. 수직갱 깊이에 대한 실험 결과는 수직갱 깊이가 짧아질수록 압력이 감소하는 경향을 보이는 것으로 분석되었는데 이는 회전수 및 회전력과 관련 있는 것으로 판단된다. 향후 수직갱 직경, 수직갱 깊이에 대한 추가 연구가 필요한 것판단되며 이를 통하여 수직갱 깊이-감세지 깊이에 대한 정량적인 연구와 분석을 통해 경제적이고 안정적인 대심도 빗물저류배수터널 감세지 설계가이드라인을 제시하고자 한다.

Analysis of the Response of School Food Service Operations to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020-2021 (2020~2021년 코로나바이러스감염증-19 대응을 위한 학교급식 운영 현황)

  • This study aimed to examine the operations of school food services to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in schools nationwide. The survey data on school food service operations targeting nutrition teachers and nutritionists at 1,023 schools in 2020 and 1,177 schools in 2021 were used. The year 2021 saw an increase compared to 2020 in the following: 'average days to be served with meals for a year (144.5 vs. 184.7)', 'provided meals to all students (92.3% vs. 96.6%)', 'utilization of additional staff for foodservice assistance (33.4% vs. 38.8%)', 'installation of partitions (61.2% vs. 83.8%)', 'provision of general diet (96.1% vs. 99.1%)', and 'use of kitchen utensils (91.3% vs. 95.1%)', 'use of cafeteria water cup (9.9% vs. 31.0%)' and 'use of drinking water in school (46.8% vs. 52.1%)'. Compared to 2020, in 2021, it was confirmed that the school food service operations stabilized due to the increase in the normal school attendance rate and that systems were in place for operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the future, it will be necessary to develop manuals and special recipes necessary for responding to infectious diseases, and to operate a manpower pool that can quickly find replacement personnel if required.

Impacts of Two Types of El Niño on Hydrologic Variability in Annual Maximum Flow and Low Flow in the Han River Basin (두 가지 El Niño 형태에 따른 한강 유역의 연최대홍수량 및 저유량의 변화 분석)

  • In this study, we analysed hydrologic variability in quantity and onset of annual maximum flow and low flow by impacts of the different phases of ENSO (El Ni$\tilde{n}$o Southern Oscillation) over the Han River Basin. The results show that annual maximum flow has increased statistically significant about 48.3% of all over the watershed. The onset of annual maximum flow was delayed in the west of the Han River basins and in the east of the basins was likely to be rapid onset. Also, this study shows that 7-day low flow was deceased statistically significant about 26.0% of the total area in the Han River Basin, and onset of 7-day low flow tends to be faster in the upper-middle basins of the Han River. The onset of annual maximum flow shows similar pattern during the CT (Cold tongue)/WP (Warm-pool) El Ni$\tilde{n}$o years, but annual maximum flow appeared less in 89.0% of all basins during the CT El Ni$\tilde{n}$o years. In addition, the onset of 7-day low flow tended to be faster about 17 days on average during the WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o years, and 72.7% of the basins show significant increase during the CT El Ni$\tilde{n}$o years. Consequently, it was found that the different phases of CT/WP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o have effects on sensitivity to variability in quantity and onset of water resources over the Han River Basin. We expect that the present diagnostic study on hydrological variability during different phases of ENSO will provide useful information for long-term prediction and water resources management.

Allochthonous Organic Matter Contribution to Foodweb in Shingu Agricultural Researvoir after Rainfall Period (강우기 후 신구 농업용 저수지 먹이망에 미치는 외부기원 유기물의 영향 - 안정동위원소비 활용 -)

  • The origin of particulate organic matter (POM) and food web structure were investigated in Shingu reservoir based on stable isotope analysis from pre-monsoon (July) to post-monsoon (September) 2007. According to the depth in Shingu reservoir, the $^{13}C$ and $^{15}N$ values of POM for pre-monsoon period were nonsignificant distinction, while it was significant variation after rainfall period. The ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of POM in premonsoon period ranged from -25.1‰ to -26.1‰ in whole water column, but the ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of POM in post-monsoon period showed relatively wide range between -23.2‰ and -27.5‰. The apparently lighter values (average -27.5‰) in near bottom water (7 m water depth) demonstrate that POM in high turbid water in post-monsoon period may be derived from the outside terrestrial plants (allochthonous) through heavy rainfall during the summer monsoon period. After rainfall period, $^{13}C$ and $^{15}N$ values of D. brachyurum showed -23.3‰ and 12.2‰, respectively, while B. longirostris showed -27.1% and 8.7%, respectively. It suggested that D. brachyurum mainly feed on POM in autochthonous organic matter pool, but B. longirostris mainly consumed POM in allochthonous organic matter pool after rainfall period. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios were markedly different among secondary consumers. The carp (C. carpio) and catfish (S. asotus) were in the higher trophic level and crucian carp (C. auratus) and mudfish (M. mizolepis) were in the lower trophic level. $^{13}C$ and $^{15}N$ values of Z. platypus didn't significantly changed between before and after rainfall period. But P. parva and C. auratus apparently changed the $^{13}C$ and $^{15}N$ values after rainfall period. It is suggested that P. parva and C. auratus seem to feed allochthonous food source while Z. platypus depend on autochthonous food source.

Occurrences of Hot Spring and Potential for Epithermal Type Mineralization in Main Ethiopian Rift Valley (주 에티오피아 열곡대 내 온천수의 산출특성 및 천열수형 광상의 부존 잠재성)

  • The East African Rift System(EARS) is known to be hosted epithermal Au-Ag deposits, and the best-known example is Main Ethiopian Rift Valley(MER) related to Quaternary bimodal volcanism. Large horst-graben system during rifting provides open space for emplacement of bimodal magmas and flow channel of geothermal fluids. In recent, large hydrothermally altered zones(Shala, Langano, and Allalobeda) and hot spring related to deeply circulating geothermal water have been increasing their importance due to new discoveries in MER and Danakil depression. The hot springs in Shala and Allalobeda occur as boiling pool and geyser on the surface, whereas some areas didn't observe them due to decreasing ground water table. The host rocks are altered to quartz, kaolinite, illite, smectite, and chlorite due to interaction with rising geothermal water. The hot springs in MER are neutral to slightly alkaline pH(7.88~8.83) and mostly classified into $HCO_3{^-}$ type geothermal water. They are strongly depleted in Au, and Ag, but show a higher Se concentration of up to 26.7 ppm. In contrast, siliceous altered rocks around hot springs are strongly enriched in Pb(up to 33 ppm, Shala), Zn(up to 313 ppm, Shala), Cu(up to 53.1 ppm, Demaegona), and Mn(up to 0.18 wt%t, Shala). In conclusion, anomalous Se in hot spring water, Pb, Zn, Cu, and Mn in siliceous altered rocks, and new discoveries in MER have been increasing potential for epithermal gold mineralization.
