  • In this paper, compressive characteristics of carbon fabric skin with polymeric foam core sandwich structure were investigated by FE analyses and compressive tests of polyurethane foam were also conducted with respect to temperature changes, which were determined by curing processes of epoxy or polyester resin to obtain mechanical behaviour of polyurethane foam. FE analyses indicated variation of parameters with respect to manufacturing pressure, which have comparatively massive effect upon mechanical properties of sandwich structures, i.e. wavelength as well as crimp angle of carbon fabric

  • The effect of polymeric diphenyl methane-4,4-diisocyanate (pMDI) or 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) in the UMF resin was discussed for improvement of the dry and wet shear strengths of plywood manufactured from high moisture content veneers. The curing behavior of UMF resin by pMDI or HDI content was examined by DSC and TGA, and its adhesion performance was evaluated by dry and wet shear strength tests of plywood. With the increase of pMDI content in the UMF resin, the curing temperature, reaction enthalpy (${\Delta}H$), and thermal stability consistently increased. With the increase of HDI content in the UMF resin, however, the curing temperature and reaction enthalpy (${\Delta}H$) decreased consistently and the thermal stability slightly increased in the range of 200 to $400^{\circ}C$ but decreased beyond $400^{\circ}C$. Also, the dry tensile shear strength increased up to the pMDI content of 5% and then decreased with its further addition but the wet tensile shear strength showed slight tendency to increase with the increase of pMDI content in the UMF resin. As the HDI content increased, however, the dry and wet tensile shear strengths of plywood consistently increased.

  • In this study, carbon fiber reinforced polymeric (CFRP) composites with different resin composition were manufactured and resin formulation in composite materials were presented through tensile tests for cryogenic use. Thermo-mechanical cyclic loading (up to 6 cycles) was applied to CFRP unidirectional laminate specimens from room temperature to $-150^{\circ}C$. Tensile tests were then performed at $-150^{\circ}C$ using an environmental test chamber. In addition, matrix-dominant properties such as the transverse and in-plane shear characteristics of each composite model were measured at $-150^{\circ}C$ to examine the effects of resin formulation on their interfacial properties. The tensile tests showed that the composite models with large amounts of bisphenol-A epoxy and CTBN modified rubber in their resin composition had good mechanical performance at cryogenic temperature (CT).

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of a planar nano-diffraction grating for an integrated miniature spectrometer module. The proposed planar nano-diffraction grating consists of nonuniform periods, to focus the reflected beams from the grating's surface, and an asymmetrical V-shaped groove profile, to provide uniform diffraction efficiency in the wavelength range from 400 to 650 nm. Also, to fabricate the nano-diffraction grating using low-cost UV-NIL technology, we analyzed the FT-IR spectrum of a uvcurable resin and optimized the conditions for the UV curing process. Then, we precisely fabricated the polymeric nano-diffraction grating within 5 nm in dimensional accuracy. The integrated spectrometer module using the fabricated polymeric planar nano-diffraction grating provides spectral resolution of 5 nm and spectral bandwidth of 250 nm. Our integrated spectrometer module using a polymeric planar nano-diffraction grating serves as a quick and easy solution for many spectrometric applications.

  • A series of arylacetylene resins with siloxane units were synthesized by the condensation reactions of m-diethynylbenzene magnesium reagents with various $\alpha,\omega$-bis(chloro)dimethylsiloxanes. These resins are liquids and are miscible with common organic solvents at room temperature. The structures of the resins were characterized by FT-IR, $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, $^{29}Si$ NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The thermal behaviors of the resins were examined with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These resins have good processability. They can be thermally cross-linked through the ethynyl groups to produce cured resins. The thermal and thermooxidative stabilities of the cured resins were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The cured resins possess high thermal and thermooxidative stability. Their decomposition occurs at above $500^{\circ}C$ in both $N_2$ and air. With increasing the length of siloxane units in the resins, the thermal stability of the cured resins decreases in $N_2$. When the cured resins were sintered above $1450^{\circ}C$ under argon, hard and glassy SiOC ceramics were obtained. These SiOC ceramics have the decomposition temperatures at 5% weight loss above $800^{\circ}C$ in air.

  • Recently, to improve condition car park, using surface finishing material for variety color and property epoxy resin, urethane, cement mixed resin mortar or polymeric resin, and so on. However, it is frequent noise and wear out of tier and waterproofing materials, when the car slip or stop in car park, To minimize these cases, It is necessary that reduction of repair cost through performance long term durability of surface finishing material, improvement inside condition such as reduce dirty and car accident and ensurance the expected life of concrete slab in car park. Especially, we have not any tech for quality control, construction tech, production technology for car park surface materials, that's why park slab is not safety and suffer a loss. For this problems, this paper is to test surface finishing materials and as that result, suggest quality standard in the car park.

  • In nano-imprint lithography (NIL) process, which has shown to be a good method to fabricate polymeric patterns, several kinds of pattern defects due to thermal effects during polymer flow and mold release operation have been reported. A typical defect in NIL process with high aspect ratio and low resist thickness pattern is a resist fracture during the mold release operation. It seems due to interfacial adhesion between polymer and mold. However, in the present investigation, FEM simulation of NIL molding process was carried out to predict the defects of the polymer pattern and to optimize the process by FEA. The embossing operation in NIL process was investigated in detail by FEM. From the analytical results, it was found that the lateral flow of polymer resin and the applied pressure in the embossing operation induce the weld line and the drastic lateral strain at the edge of pattern. It was also shown that the low polymer-thickness result in the delamination of polymer from the substrate. It seems that the above phenomena cause the defects of the final polymer pattern. To reduce the defect, it is important to check the initial resin thickness.

  • This research was performed to investigate the feasibility of bamboo as a raw material for the manufacture of plywood. Wood veneer-bamboo zephyr composite boards (WBCB) were manufactured using keruing (Dipterocarpus sp.) veneers and hachiku bamboo (Phyllostacbys nigra var. henonis Stapf) using various adhesives, and the effect of the method and amount of resin spread on the mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The WBCB manufactured using polymeric isocyanate (PMDI) showed the best mechanical properties, followed by phenol-formaldehyde resin (PF), phenol-melamine-formaldehyde resin, urea-melamine-formaldehyde resin, and urea-formaldehyde resin. However, considering the operation feasibility as well as mechanical properties, PF resin proved to be the appropriate adhesive for the practical purpose. As the amount of resin spread increased, the mechanical properties of 5-ply WBCB with 12 mm thicknesses manufactured using PF resin tended to increase, and more failure occurred at the interface between veneer and bamboo zephyr than at the interface among bamboo zephyrs. This result suggests that penetration of resin into bamboo zephyr could be the important factor. In this research, the appropriate amount of resin amount was $320g/m^2$. 5-ply WBCBs were manufactured using various methods of resin spread but the effect of the methods on the mechanical properties showed no little difference, which meant that the method of resin spread could be chosen considering the manufacturing conditions and operation feasibility.
