  • Selective oxidation of cyclohexane in acetone solution has been studied using iron catalysts with hydrogen peroxide in-situ produced by palladium catalyst. Iron tetraphenylporphyrin chloride shows the highest activity among the tested chlorides and porphyrin complexes of some metals of the first transiton series. Iron chloride and iron tetraphenylporphyrin chloride were supported on four kinds of 4-vinylpyridine copolymer with styrene or divinyl-benzene. Nitrogen 1s photoelectron spectra give the evidence that pyridyl nitrogens of the 4-vinyl pyridine copolymer act as ligands to bind iron species. The copolymer with styrene is the most efficient support for the binding because its solubility in catalyst preparation solvent (methylene chloride) gives the pyridyl group advantage to contact with the iron catalysts. However, better catalytic activity per iron atom could be obtained with a rigid crosslinked polymer due to active site isolation.

  • This study investigates the flexural behavior of steel-concrete composite beams strengthened with prestressed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates. An innovative mechanical anchorage system was developed. The components of the system can be easily assembled on site before applying a prestressing force, and removed from the structures after strengthening is completed. A total of seven steel-concrete composite specimens including four simply supported beams strengthened at the positive moment region and three continuous beams strengthened at the negative moment region were tested statically until failure. Experimental results showed that the use of prestressed CFRP plates enhanced the flexural capacity and reduced the mid-span deflection of the beams. Furthermore, by prestressing the CFRP laminates, the material was used more efficiently, and the crack resistance of the continuous composite specimens at the central support was significantly improved after strengthening. Overall, the anchorage system proved to be practical and feasible for the strengthening of steel-concrete composite beams. The theoretical analysis of ultimate bearing capacity is reported, and good agreement between analytical values and experimental results is achieved.

  • Recently, 2D materials greatly impact in the various applications especially in the energy conversion and storage devices. Among the 2D materials, nowadays researchers are showing their propensity towards the MXenes due to their potential structural and physical properties as well as their use in various applications. Recently, MXenes have been used as filler in polymer electrolytes membranes and as catalytic support to increase the performance of fuel cells (FCs). But this review covers only recent progress and application of MXenes in proton and anion exchange membranes for FCs. Also, this review will provide a significant guidance and broad overview for future research in MXenes based polymer electrolyte membrane for FCs.

  • Stereolithography is a process used to rapidly produce polymer components directly form a computer representation of the part. There are several considerations to be made for the efficient use of the process. Especially, the build-up orientation of part critically affects the part accuracy, total build time and the volume of support structures. The purpose of tis study is to determine the optimal build-up part orientation for the SLA process with improving part accuracy, and minimizing total build time and the volume of support structures. The forst factor is related to the area of surfaces whioch have staircase protrusions after solidification, the second factor is related to the total number of layers, and the third factor is related to the area of the surfaces which need to be supported with support structures. An algorithm is developed to calculate the staircase area, quantifying the process errors by the volume of materials supposed to be removed or added to the part, and the optimal layer thickness for the SLA system which can handle the variable layer thickness. So the optima l part orientation is determined based on the user's selections of primary criter- ion and the optimal thickness of layers is calculated at any part orientations.

  • Nano Pt particles were dispersed on carbon-based supports by a polyol process for a catalyst application in a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. We tried to optimize the effect of pH on the electrostatic forces between the support and the Pt colloids. We investigated the relationship among the surface charges on the carbon support, the solution pH, and the concentration of a glycolate, and the Pt particle size. The produced catalyst with nano Pt particles on the support was evaluated by the long-term cyclic voltammetry (CV) performance test and compared with the results from a commercial catalyst. Our experimental results reveal that the pH-control can modify the particle size distribution and the dispersion of the nano Pt particles. This resulted in a cost-effective method for the synthesis of highly Pt loaded Pt/C catalysts for fuel cells better than a commercial catalyst system.

  • For manned planetary exploration, human beings are developing technologies that can permanently reside on the planet, and the basic three elements of residence, such as clothing and shelter, are required to support essential technologies in construction. In order to develop infrastructure construction technology internationally, various materials and methods such as local cementation, sulfur and aluminum have been tried. in this study, a purpose is proposed a polymer concrete construction validation technology that appropriates the conditions required for manmade exploration in order to develop construction infrastructure material technology using polymer. Concrete specimens with a 10% weight ratio polymer prepared by heating on the bottom were stabilized after 2 hours of heating, and the strength was lower than the top heating method, but the solidifying speed was 2 times faster. These results are expected to be applicable not only to construction of lunar facilities for manned exploration but also to improve the construction of infrastructures such as roads and levees to prevent dust.

  • The heat of combustion of polymer materials is an important fire characteristics, which can be used with other fire parameter to predict the potential fire hazard in the polymer handling process. The aim of this study is to predict the heat of combustion for polymers which used in the building interior materials. By using the literature data and multiple regression, the new equation for predicting the heat of combustion of polymers is proposed. The A.A.p.E.(average absolute percent error) and the A.A.D.(average absolute deviation) of the reported and the calculated heat of combustion by means of the oxygen consumption calorimeter and the stoichiometric coefficient were 4.46 and 1.09, and the correlation coefficient was 0.972. The values calculated by the proposed equations were in good agreement with the literature data. Therefore, it is expected that this proposed equations will support the use of the research for other polymer materials.

  • Shear strengthening method by steel plates and fiber reinforced polymer lamination has recently been favorably selected due to its efficiencies of duration and performance. Shear failure being brittle and difficult to predict, reinforced concrete structures must have sufficient capacity to absorb the energy for shear failure and to support temporarily the overload which may result due to the loss of shear capacity to the structure. These respects being considered, this research has carried out with the purpose of the experimental verification of the shear strengthening effect and ductility evaluation.

  • Poly(4-vinylpyridine)-supported $Br{\phi}nsted$ acids (P4VP-HX) were prepared by wet impregnation technique. These supported acids were found as efficient heterogeneous green catalysts for acetylation of alcohol, amine and phenol with different catalytic activities. The wide application of P4VP-HX as reusable solid acid catalyst in organic reactions is possible because of its simple preparation and handling, stability, simple work up procedure.

  • Sample preparation is significantly important to the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) characterization of nanomaterials. However, many general organic solvents can dissolve the necessary organic polymer support layer in TEM grid, which causes it difficult to obtain high-quality samples of oil-soluble nanomaterials. In this study, a new sample preparation method for oil-soluble nanomaterials has been developed by using the sublimable material as a transition layer. Experiments also show that there is no damage to TEM grids and high-quality HRTEM images can be obtained via this method. This approach paves the way to applicable HRTEM sample preparation of oil-soluble nanomaterials.
