Shape memory materials are widely used in high-tech industries. Although shape memory polymers have been developed, they have a disadvantage, only unidirectional resilience. Shape memory polymers with bi-directional recovery resilience have been actively studied. In this study, a bidirectional shape memory polyurethane was synthesized using poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) diol, methylene dicyclohexyl diisocyanate, and hydroxyethyl acrylate. The first physical curing occurred between hard segments and hydrogen bondings when the solution was dried. The second curing in acrylate groups was performed by UV exposure. A degree of curing was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The shape memory properties of 2 step-cured polyurethanes were investigated as a function of UV curing time.

Interfacial evaluation, damage sensing and cure monitoring of single carbon fiber/thermosetting composite with different curing processes was investigated using electro-micromechanical test. After curing, residual stress was monitored by measurement of electrical resistance (ER) and then it was compared to correlate with various curing processes. In thermal curing, curing shrinkage appeared significantly by matrix shrinkage and residual stress due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient (TEC). The change in electrical resistance (ΔR) on thermal curing was higher than that on ultraviolet (UV) curing. For thermal curing, apparent modulus was the highest and reaching time until same strain was faster. So far thermal curing shows strong durability on the IFSS after boiling test.
PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the curing and adhesive behavior of asphalt emulsions including polymer-modified emulsions for chip seals and fog seals. METHODS : For the laboratory testing, the evaporation test, the bitumen bond strength (BBS) test, and the Vialit test are used. Also, the rolling ball test and the damping test are employed to evaluate the curing properties of the fog seal emulsions. In order to conduct all the tests in controled condition, all test procedures are performed in the environmental chamber. The CRS-2L and the SBS CRS-2P emulsions are used as a polymer-modified emulsion, and then unmodified emulsion, the CRS-2, is compared for the evaluation of chip seal performance. For the fog seal performance evaluation, two types of polymer-modified emulsions (FPME-1 and FPME-2) and one of unmodified emulsion, the CSS-1H, are employed. All the tests are performed at different curing times and temperatures. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Overall, PMEs show better curing and adhesive behavior than non-PMEs regardless of treatments types. Especially, the curing and adhesive behavior of PMEs is much better than non-PMEs before 120 minutes of curing time. Since all the test results indicate that after 120 minutes of curing time the curing adhesive behavior of emulsions, the early curing time, i.e., 120 minutes, plays an important role in the performance of chip seals and fog seals.

Epoxy resin without any hardener can harden in the presence of hydroxide ions in cement mortars and concretes at ambient temperature. The purpose of present study is to examine the hardening properties of hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars by curing conditions. The hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars using diglycidyl ether of A epoxy resin are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and subjected to initial moist/dry curing, initial steam(90℃) curing, initial steam/heat(80℃, 100℃) curing. As a result, degree of hardening of epoxy resin in initial moist/dry cured, initial steam cured and initial steam/heat(80℃) cured hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars is decreased with increasing polymer-cement ratio. However, it is markedly improved with additional dry-curing periods. On the other hand, regardless of the polymer-cement ratio and dry curing periods, degree of hardening of hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars with initial steam/heat(100℃) cure is over 95%.

High strength concretes utilizing EVA with micro particles were prepared by varying polymer/binder mass ratio and curing conditions with a constant water/binder mass ratio of 0.3. The EVA modified concretes on the compressive and flexural strength, microstructure, ultrapulse modulus in curing condition(dry and water curing) were studied. Also, scanning electron microscope analysis(SEM) was performed to reveal the presence of polymer film and cement hydrates in the concrete. The compressive strength of the EVA modified concretes cured at water conditions ere higher than that of the EVA modified concretes cured at dry conditions. But, the flexural strength of the specimens cured at dry conditions were higher than that of the specimens cured at water conditions. Due to the interaction of the cement hydrates and polymer film, an interpenetrating network originated in which the aggregates were embedded. The curing of the polymer modified concrete involves two step of cement hydrates and polymer modification, and cement hydrates was promoted in water conditions and polymer film formation take place when water evaporates and was thereby was favored in dry conditions. By SEM analysis, influences of polymer modification was strengthening of the transition zone between the aggregate and the paste, and the porosity of transition zone decreases. By spring analysis, it could known that polymer film affects in porosity decrease and strengthening of transition zone.
Polymer cement slurry (PCS) made from organic polymer dispersion and cement has good adhesion to steel, waterproofness and acid resistance due to being of polymer films formed in cement slurry. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mix design conditions at early curing age of PCS-coating material effected on improvement in bond strength of coated rebar. The test pieces are prepared with two types of polymer dispersions such as St/BA and EVA, four polymer-cement ratios, two types of cement, four coating thicknesses and three curing ages, and tested for the bond strength test. From the test results, in general, bond strength of PCS-coated rebar is better than that of uncoated rebar and epoxy-coated rebar. It is also high bond strength at curing ages of 7-day or less, and coating thicknesses of $75{\mu}m$ and $100{\mu}m$. The maximum bond strength of PCS-coated rebar at curing age of 3-hour is almost same as that of curing age of 1-day and 7-day. The maximum bond strength of PCS-coated rebar with ultra high-early strength cement and St/BA at polymer-cement ratio of 80%, and coating thickness of $100{\mu}m$ is about 1.52 and 1.58 times respectively, the strength of uncoated rebar and epoxy-coated rebar. It is apparent that the curing age, coating thickness, type of polymer and cement are very important factors to improve the bond strength of PCS-coated rebar to cement concrete. We can have basic information that PCS-coated rebar with curing age at 3-hour and coating thickness of $100{\mu}m$ can replace epoxy-coated rebar.

This paper investigates the effect of curing conditions on the strength improvement of polymer-modified mortars using epoxy resin with various curing methods. The polymer-modified mortars using epoxy resin are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and subjected to standard, hot water, heat cure and autoclave cures. The epoxy-modified mortars are tested for flexural and compressive strengths at desired curing methods. From the test results, the flexural and compressive strengths of the epoxy-modified mortars are hardly improved by the autoclave and hot water cures compared to the ideal cure of $20^{\circ}C$. Among the four types of curing methods, the strengths of the heat cured epoxy-modified mortars is largely improved. Especially, it is obtained in the mortars sealed with PVDC film.

Resins using recycled PET offer the possibility of a lower source cost of materials for making useful polymer concrete products. The purposed of this paper is to propose the model for the stress-strain relation of recycled-PET polymer concrete at monotonic uniaxial compression and is to investigate for the stress-strain behavior characteristics of recycled-PET polymer concrete with different variables(strength, resin contents, curing conditions, addition of silane and ages). The maximum stress and strain of recycled-PET polymer concrete was found to increase with an increase in resin content, however, it decreased beyond a particular level of resin content. A ascending and descending branch of stress-strain curve represented more sharply at high temperature curing more than normal temperature curing. In addition, results show that the proposed model accurately predicts the stress-strain relation of recycled-PET polymer concrete.

Sealant paste with silica immersed in cross-linked epoxy-acrylate polymer resin was prepared by thermal and UV curing process. The curing mechanism of polymer resin resulted from 2 functional groups of epoxy and acrylic structure. The properties of microstructure, thermal conductivity and mechanical strength were investigated for its various applications. The adhesion strength is increased by increasing the thermal curing time until 15 minutes, and curing efficiency is saturated over 20 minutes. The increase rate per day of pot life and viscosity is 4.8%, indicating it has excellent storage stability. It is found that the formulation of silica pastes can be applied to heavy industries, building materials, display and various industries.
PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the bond strength of asphalt emulsions including polymer-modified emulsions for chip seals and fog seals using the bitumen bond strength (BBS) test. METHODS : For the laboratory testing, the Pneumatic Adhesion tensile Testing Instrument(PATTI) device is used to measure the bond strength between the asphalt emulsion and aggregate substrate based on the AASHTO TP-91. For the fog seal performance evaluation, two types of polymer-modified emulsions and one of unmodified emulsion, the CSS-1H, are employed. For chip seal study, the BBS tests are performed at 30, 60, 120, and 240 minutes of curing times with curing and testing temperatures of $15^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $35^{\circ}C$. The fog seal tests are conducted at 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 minutes, and 24 hours with curing and testing temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, and $35^{\circ}C$. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Overall, chip seal emulsions and fog seal emulsions show the similar bond strength trend. At the same testing condition, polymer-modified emulsions show better bond strength than unmodified emulsions. Also, there is no significant difference between polymer-modified emulsions. One of important findings is that the most bond strength reaches their final bond strength within one hour of curing time. Therefore, the early curing time plays a vital role in the performance of chip seals and fog seals.
