  • In order to investigate the relationship between pore size distribution and freezing-thawing resistance of mortars, polymer-cement mortars were prepared by using styrene-butadiene rubber latex, ethylene-vinyl acetate emulsion and polyacrylic ester emulsion with various polymer-cement ratios at constant flow. From the results of the test, polymer-cement mortars had a good pore size distribution for freezing-thawing resistance compared with unmodified mortars because of having a small pore volume in the pore radius range of 103~104 $\AA$ affecting on the frost damage. And the freezing-thawing resistance of polymer-cement mortars was improved with increasing polymer-cement ratio.

  • This paper investigates the effects of the monomer ratios on the typical properties of polymer-modified mortars that contain methyl methacrylate-based latexes. Basic data are also obtained to develop appropriate latexes for cement modifiers. Polymer-modified mortars that contain methyl methacrylate latexes copolymerized with butyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate are prepared for different polymer-cement ratios. They are then tested to obtain the tensile and tensile adhesive strengthes of polymer-modified mortar with methyl methacrylate-based latexes. From the test results, the tensile strength of MB7 polymer-modified mortar was higher than normal cement mortar by a maximum of 94% with a 20% polymer-cement ratio, which was almost twice higher than normal. The tensile adhesive strength of the MB polymer-modified mortar was higher for higher MMA monomer contents and polymer-cement ratios, and increased up to four times than that of normal cement mortar. The basic properties of the polymer-modified mortars are more affected by the polymer-cement ratio than by the monomer ratio, and are improved over unmodified mortar.

  • In this study, a mortar was produced using re-dispersible polymer powders that addresses the defects of aqueous polymer and improves the durability of cement mortar. Also, an attempt was made to examine the properties of polymer modified mortars using re-dispersible polymer powders by strength and durability tests between ordinary Portland cement mortars and polymer modified mortars mixed with aqueous dispersion. The test showed that strength and durability are improved considerably compared with ordinary Portland cement mortar, and the performance of aqueous polymer cement mortar was considerably improved. Accordingly, it is expected that high-quality prepackaged polymer modified mortars can be produced using re-dispersible polymer powders.

  • Reinforced concrete structures under sever conditions such as marine structures, bridges and structural constructed with aggregated(dredged front sea). can be deteriorated from corrosion of the reinforcing bars. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the corrosion reflectance of coated steel using polymer dispersion and polymer cement slurry. Polymer dispersion and polymer cement slurry with various polymer types were coated to the surface of bars and steel plate, and tested for accelerated corrosion tests. Tests include adhesion in tension, bending test, chloride ion spray, penetration of NaCl 10% solution and carbonation. From the test results, the corrosive resistance of steel is considerably improved by using polymer dispersion and polymer cement flurry at surface of steel. The difference of the corrosive resistance is hardly recognized according to types of polymer dispersion. The coated steel using polymer dispersion and polymer foment slurry will be improved to a great extent compared to those of plain steel when increasing content of chloride ion in cement concrete.

  • Polymer cement is made by the modifying ordinary cement concrete with polymer additive. Until now polymer cement concrete is not used for the structural member, but it is growing to be considered as developing uses such as a waterproof of roof slab, the structural member for protecting corrosion, and a road pavement. The plymer cement concrete, being used for those uses, is superior to the cement concrete against the inorganic, organic acid, salt of acetic acid and organic solvents generally. In this paper, the polymer cement concrete was made by the ratio of 1:1 of sands and tailing in fine aggregate in order to solve the environmental pollution which causes the social problem by the tailing, It was measured for the compressive strength, flexural strength, and chemicals resistance was tested by dealing with 10% HCI, 20% NaOH and 10% NaCl aqueous solution.

  • Diffusion of water in hardened cement concrete and mortar influences on the dry shrinkage. creep. modulus of' elasticity, etc. In general, water loss through drying process in polymer-modified concrete and mortar is small compared with that of unmodified concrete and mortar due to the films formed by polymer as cement modifieder. The purpose of this study is to investigate the diffusion process of water in the polymer-modified mortars. The polymer-modified mortars using three polymer dispersions and epoxy resin are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and water diffusion coefficient of polymer-modified mortars according to inside water content is calculated. From the test results, the water diffusion coefficient of polymer modified mortars i s smaller than that of unmodified mortars and decreases with increasing polymer cement ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of curing conditions on adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortar to cement mortar substrate in comparision with ordinary cement mortar. The polymer-modifies mortars using two polymer dispersions and a redispersible polymer power are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and tested for the adhesion in tension of the specimens subjected to five curing conditions. From the test results, the adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortars tends to increase with increasing polymer-cement ratio irrespective of the polymer types and curing conditions. It is apparent that adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortars is considerably influenced by curing conditions.

  • In recent years, it has widely been studied on the light-weight composites for the purpose of the large space and thermal insulation of building structures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the properties of light-weight composites made by binders as cement, resin and polymer cement slurry. The concrete composites are prepared with various conditions such as polymer-cement ratio, void-filling ratio, type of resin, filler content and light-weight aggregate content, tested for thermal conductivity. From the test results, the thermal conductivity of concrete composites with the binder of cement tends to decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio, and to increase with increasing void-filling ratio. The thermal conductivity of concrete composites with the binder of resin are markedly affected by the light-weight aggregate content, type of resin and filler content. The composites made by polymer-modified concrete and polymer cement slurry have a good thermal insulation property. From the this study, we can recommend the proper mix proportions for thermal insulation Panel or concrete. Expecially. the thermal conductivity of concrete composites made by polyurethane resin is almost the same as that of the conventional expanded polystyrene resin.

  • In this paper, the properties of the cement mortar modified with styrene acrylic ester copolymer were investigated. Expanded vermiculite as lightweight aggregate was used for making the polymer modified mortar test specimens. To study the effect of polymer-cement ratio and vermiculite-cement ratio on various properties, specimens were prepared by varying the polymer-cement and vermiculite-cement ratios. Tests of physical properties such as density, water absorption, thermal conductivity, three-point flexure and compressive tests were made on the specimens. Furthermore, a coupled thermal-structural finite element model of an entire corner wall was modelled in order to study the best material configuration. The wall is composed by a total of 132 bricks of $120{\times}242{\times}54$ size, joined by means of a contact-bonded model. The use of advanced numerical methods allows us to obtain the optimum material properties. Finally, comparisons of polymer-cement and vermiculite-cement ratios on physical properties are given and the most important conclusions are exposed.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the anti-corrosive properties of coated reinforcing bar using polymer cement slurry. Poymer cement slurry are prepared with three types of polymer dispersions and corrosion inhibiting admixture. And tested for corrosion accelerating tests such as immersion in NaCl 10% solution NaCl 10% solution spray, high temperature and pressure steam in condition of 8cycles, carbonation before and after, penetration of NaCl solution. From the test results, it is concluded that the anti-corrosive properties are considerably improved by coating using polymer cement slurry at surface of reinforcing bar. And this trend is marked by adding of corrosion inhibiting admixture. The difference of the anti-corrosive properties is hardly recognized according to types of polymer dispersions. The anti-corrosive properties of coated reinforcing bar using polymer foment slurry are improved to a great extent compared to those of plain reinforcing bar accordiy to increasing content of chloride ion in cement concrete.
