  • Transcribability of pit or land groove structures in replicating an optical disk substrate greatly affects the performance of a high-density optical disk. However, a solidified layer, generated during the polymer filling, deteriorates transcribability because the solidified layer prevents the polymer melt in filling the sub-micro patterns. Therefore, the development of the solidified layer during filling stage of injection molding must be delayed. For this delay, passive heating by insulation layer has been used. In the present study, to examine the development of the solidified layer delayed by passive heating, the flow of polymer melt with passive heating was analyzed. Passive heating markedly delayed the development of the solidified layer, reduced the viscosity of the polymer melt, and increased the fluidity of the polymer melt in the vicinity of the stamper surface with the sub-micro patterns. As a result, we predict that passive heating can improve transcribability of an optical disk substrate. To verify our prediction, we fabricated an optical disk substrate by using passive heating of a mold and measured the transcribability.

Evaluation of thymolphthalein-grafted graphene oxide as an antioxidant for polypropylene

  • In the present work, capability of thymolphthalein-grafted graphene oxide, which was successfully synthesized in this study, in stabilization of polypropylene against thermal oxidation were investigated and compared with that of SONGNOX 1010, a commercially used phenolic antioxidant for the polymer. The modified graphene oxide were incorporated into polypropylene via melt mixing. State of distribution of the nanoplatelets in the polymer matrix was examined using scanning electron microscopy and was shown to be homogeneous. Measurements of oxidation onset temperature and oxidative induction time revealed that thymolphthalein-grafted graphene oxide modifies thermo-oxidative stability of the polymer in the melt state remarkably. However, the efficiency of the nanoplatelets in stabilization of polypropylene against thermal oxidation in melt state was shown to be inferior to that of SONGNOX 1010. Furthermore, oven ageing experiments followed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the modified graphene oxide improves thermo-oxidative stability of the polymer strongly in the solid state, so that its stabilization efficiency is comparable to that of SONGNOX 1010.

유기화제 구조가 열가소성 나노복합체의 제조에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Organosilicate Structure on Melt Intercalation of Thermoplastic Polymers)

  • Static 용융 삽입에 의하여 열가소성 고분자의 나노복합체를 제조할 때 유기화 점토에 치환된 유기화제의 길이와 packing 밀도, 그리고 열처리 온도와 시간 등이 고분자의 점토 층간 삽입에 미치는 영향에 대하여 x-ray와 FTIR spectroscopy를 이용하여 조사하였다. 초기 유기화제의 배열형태가 lateral monolayer일 때는 고분자들의 용융 삽입이 일어나지 않았으며 그 외의 경우 유기화제의 종류 및 구조 등에 따라 최종 점토 층간 간격은 큰 변화를 보이지 않았다. 열처리 시간에 따라서 층간 간격은 증가하며 더욱 규칙적으로 변하는 것을 알 수 있었고, 온도가 증가함에 따라서는 점토 층간 간격은 증가하지만 불규칙적으로 배열이 되어가는 것을 관찰하였다.

  • The cyclic butylene terephthalte oligomer was synthesized and the composition of butylenes terephthalate cyclic oligomers was 51.2 % of dimer, 28.1 % of trimer, 7.9 % of tetramer, 8 % of pentamer and 4.8% of hexamer. Polybuthylene terephthalate was polymerized using this cyclic oligomer in the condition of melt process and supercritical process. And PBT/clay nanocomposite were manu- factured from melt process and supercritical process. Chlorodifluoro- methane(HCFC-22) was used as a solvent which has critical point ($Tc=96.2^{\circ}C$, Pc=49.7bar). Also polymer nanocomposite were manufactured using rapid expansion of supercritical solution process.

Effects of Filler Characteristics and Processing Conditions on the Electrical, Morphological and Rheological Properties of PE and PP with Conductive Filler Composites

  • The electrical, morphological and rheological properties of melt and dry mixed composites of poly ethylene (PE)/graphite (Gr), polypropylene (PP)/Gr and PP/nickel-coated carbon fiber (NCCF) were investigated as a function of filler type, filler content and processing temperature. The electrical conductivities of dry mixed PP/NCCF composites were increased with decreasing processing temperature. For the melt mixed PP/NCCF composites, the electrical conductivities were higher than those of the melt mixed PE/Gr and PP/Gr composites, which was attributed to the effect of the higher NCCF aspect ratio in allowing the composites to form a more conductive network in the polymer matrix than the graphite does. From the results of morphological studies, the fillers in the dry mixed PP/NCCF composites were more randomly dispersed compared to those in the melt mixed PP/NCCF composites. The increased electrical conductivities of the dry mixed composites were attributed to the more random dispersion of NCCF compared to that of the melt mixed PP/NCCF composites. The complex viscosities of the PP/Gr composites were higher than those of the PP/NCCF composites, which was attributed to the larger diameter of the graphite particles than that of the NCCF. Furthermore, the fiber orientation in the 'along the flow' direction during melt mixing was attributed to the decreased complex viscosities of the melt mixed PP/NCCF composites compared those of the melt mixed PP/Gr composites.

폴리(에틸렌 나프탈레이트)의 가공 특성 향상 연구 (Processability Enhancement in Melt Processing of Poly(ethylene naphthalate))

  • 폴리(에틸렌 나프탈레이트)(PEN)의 가공 특성 향상을 위하여 윤활제 첨가와 폴리(에틸렌 테레프탈레이트)(PET)와의 블렌딩에 의한 상호에스테르 교환반응 유발에 따른 용융 점도 변화에 대하여 고찰하여 보았다. PEN에 윤활제로 calcium stearate(CaST)를 첨가한 결과, 점도를 낮출 수 있었으나 $2wt\%$ 이상의 CaST첨가는 PEN의 열분해를 촉진하여 기계적 물성이 현저히 감소됨을 확인하였다. PEN에 PET를 $10wt\%$ 첨가하여 상호에스테르 교환반응을 유발시킨 PEN/PET블렌드는 PEN보다 낮은 점도를 가지며 이에 $1wt\%$의 CaST윤활제를 같이 첨가하면 CaST가 윤활제 역할을 하는 동시에 상호에스테르 교환반응 촉진제로 작용하여 추가적인 점도 감소가 일어남을 확인하였다.

  • 폴리에틸렌에 아라미드단섬유를 보강시킨 복합재료를 roll mill을 사용하여 제조하였다. 섬유배향과 물리적 성질의 이방성을 주사전자현미경과 인장시험기로, 유변특성을 RDS 를 사용하여 측정하였다. 섬유의 배향은 roll 작업으로 어느 정도 이루어 졌으며, 섬유 loading 이 증가할수록 기계적강도의 이방성도 증가하였다. 섬유 loading 에 따른 복합점도의 상승은 저주파수 영역에서 뚜렷이 관찰되었으며, 특히 섬유 loading 이 작은 범위에서 현저하였다.
