  • Experiments were carried out to investigate for the interaction between FAD solution and synthetic resin containers made of polyvinylchloride(PVC), polyethylene(PE), and polycarbonate(PC), and for the effect of glycyrrhizine or malic acid on stabilization of FAD in aqueous solution by accelerated stability analysis. Analysis of FAD was determined by means of spectrometer and by separating by paper chromatography and metal ions were detected by atomic absorption spectrophotometer, which were extracted from containers by means of Food and Additive Regulation Standard. The thermal decomposition of FAD in aqueous solution was pseudo first order reaction and it was inhibited by adding glycyrrhizine or malic into the solution. PVC, PE and PC containers accelerated the decomposition of FAD in solution. It is assumed that bivalent heavy metals in resin containers may catalize the hydrolysis of FAD. The metals detected from the containers were Ca, Zn, Cu, Fe, Pb and Cd. And the total amounts of detected metals from PVC were 6.2mcg/cm$^{2}$, PE, 5.5mcg/cm$^{2}$, and PC, 2.7mcg/cm$^{2}$ which were proportional to the rate constant of FAD decomposition in aqueous solution.

  • A new simple, rapid and sensitive gas chromatographic technique for the determination of bisphenol-A in can materials, which is the major material of epoxy resin and polycarbonate polymer, is proposed. This method is characterised by derivatization of the bisphenol-A with a acylating reagent forming the acetate derivative to optimize the chromatographic property. The detection of bisphenol-A is performed based on GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry). Several beverages were analyzed by the proposed method for the determination of bisphenol-A Bisphenol-A was assayed the range of $0.11{\sim}11.40{\mu}g/can$ from the can materials.

  • The adjustable dental impression trays were made for being adjusted their width automatically along the width of patient's dental arch. The purpose of this study was to investigate the retentive force of adjustable dental impression trays made of different synthetic resin materials. Three pairs of adjustable trays were made of ABS(acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) synthetic resin, polyurethane synthetic resin and polycarbonate synthetic resin with a hole and without a rim on the border area of them. The experiment was done with the horse-shoe shaped metal plate to pull out the set impression body from the tray jig which was made for holding the tray on the lower part of Universal Testing Machine(UTM, Zwick Z020, Zwick Co., Germany). After the alginate impression in the tray was allowed to set four minutes, a tensile force was applied at right angles to the tray which had been previously seated on the jig. The force was applied to measure a maximum force by use of UTM at a constant strain rate 100mm per minute. The results obtained in this study were as follows : 1. The upper trays were showed higher retentive force than lower trays in three tray materials. 2. There was no significant difference in the retentive force of the tray materials(p>0.05).

  • In this study, we have fabricated light guide plates (LGPs) in thin film form for edge type back light unit (BLU) by using UV imprint lithography. In the LGPs, the pattern of functional resins on PC and PMMA substrates were successfully transferred from original master mold through PVC stamp. Optimized pattern arrays with slowly-sloped density were designed to obtain high brightness and uniformity. We could obtain a relatively improved brightness of $950cd/m^2$ and a uniformity of 87.3% by using the NP-S20 functional resins at an input power of 1.3 W because NP-S20 resin could show high formability after UV hardening process. The LGP prepared on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrate exhibited higher brightness than that on polycarbonate (PC) substrate because PMMA has lower refractive index resulting in more refraction toward the vertical direction.

  • In this study, effects of both the grafted ABS-g-MAH and the added graphene oxide (GO) on the impact strength of polycarbonate (PC)/poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) (ABS) blends were discussed. The PC/ABS blends and PC/ABS/GO composites were fabricated by using twin screw extruder with ABS-g-MAH as a compatibilizer. The ABS-g-MAH was prepared by melting extrusion of ABS and maleic anhydride (MAH) with DCP (dicumyl peroxide) as an initiator using twin screw extruder and the synthesis of ABS-g-MAH was confirmed by the presence of carbonyl group (C=O) peak at $1780cm^{-1}$ of FT-IR spectrum. According to the thermal, rheological, and impact properties of PC/ABS blends, 5 phr (parts per hundred resin) of compatibilizer was chosen as an optimum content for the PC/ABS/GO composites. It was observed that the thermal decomposition of ABS/PC/GO composites increased with GO contents, but there was no significant changes or a decrease in the impact strength. Also the composite fabricated by ABS/GO showed small increase in the impact strength. From the result of the dynamic rheometer to observe the processing properties, the complex viscosities of PC/ABS blend including the compatibilizer increased, but the complex viscosities of composites added GO were not changed.

  • Transparent, abrasion resistant coatings with 4~13 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were prepared by spin-coating on polycarbonates with organic/inorganic hybrid solutions, followed by UV curing and heat treatment at 12$0^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours. The coating solutions were composed of inorganic phase and organic phase in 0:100, 20:80, 30:70, 50:50, 80:20 wt% ratios, respectively, mixed with photoinitiator, senaitizer and surfactant. The inorganic phase was formed by sol-gel reaction of TEOS and silane coupling agent MPTMS in 1 : 2 or 2 : 1 molar ratios, the organic phase consisted of difunctional urethane acrylate oligomeric resin, multifunctional acrylate TMPTA and HDDA in 4 : 3 : 3 wt% ratio. The coating systems were investigated by FT-IR, $^{29}$ Si-NMR spectra. In addition, TGA/DSC for thermal analysis and SEM, AFM observation for coated surface were examined. Gererally, the homogeneity of phases, the surface smoothness of coating and abrasion resistance were improved with the higher content of inorganic component. Namely, coating system with below 10 $\AA$ surface roughness and T$_{g}$ of 15$0^{\circ}C$ showed only 10% decrease in light transmittance after abrasion test, whereas uncoated polycarbonate substrate exhibited 46% decrease..

  • Bisphenol A (BPA) is a monomer widely used in the manufacturing polycarbonate plastics or epoxy resin, and xenobiotics recently known as endocrine disrupting chemical. In this paper, to assess the effects of bisphenol A on immunopathological parameters (body weight, organ weight, hematological parameters, cellularity and surface marker) in mice, ICR female mice were orally exposed to BPA dissolved in olive oil as concentrations of 100, 500, 1000 ㎎/㎏/day b.w. 5 days a week for 30 days (subacute exposure). Liver - and kidney weight was significantly increased as dose-dependent manner, but body- , spleen- and thymus- weight didn't changed. In hematological parameters, WBC and MCHC were lowered but HCT and MCV were siginificantly enhanced. There was no significant differences in peritoneal macrophages number of the mice exposed to BPA. However, number of splenocytes of spleen, CD3/sup +/ and CD4/sup +/ cell in splenocytes, CD4/sup +/ and CD8/sup +/ cell in thymocytes were decreased at the mice subacutely exposed to BPA. In addition, BPA decreased expression of B7-1 and B7-2 on macrophages. Therefore, these results showed BPA may affect hematological parameters, cellularity and surface marker of immunocytes.
