  • A novel composite membrane was synthesized using crosslinked polyamide and fly ash ceramic substrate for phenol removal. Glutaraldehyde was used as crosslinker. Characterization shows that synthesized membrane possesses good permeability ($0.184l.m^{-2}.h^{-1}.kPa^{-1}$), MWCO (1.7 kDa), average pore size (1.08 nm) and good chemical stability. RSM was adopted for phenol removal studies. Box-Behnken-Design using quadratic model was chosen for three operating parameters (feed phenol concentration, pH and applied pressure) against two responses (phenol removal, flux). ANOVA shows that model is statistically valid with high coefficient of determination ($R^2$)value for flux (0.9897) and phenol removal (0.9302). The optimum conditions are obtained as pH 2, $46mg.l^{-1}$ (feed phenol concentration) and 483 kPa (applied pressure) with 92.3% phenol removal and $9.2l.m^{-2}.h^{-1}$ flux. Data validation with deviation of 4% confirms the suitability of model. Obtained results reveal that prepared composite membrane can efficiently separate phenol from aqueous solution.

  • The photosensitive spiroxazine compound and the electrosensitive viologen compound were prepared to examine their practical application feasibilities and behaviors. These dyes represent corresponding chromism effects related to their own characteristics of the dye molecules. Thus, the prepared dyes were characterized and their absorption spectra were also investigated. Besides, an interest on direct spiroxazine exhaustion to the polyamide substrates and its photochromic effects within the fiber molecules were determined. The photochromic reaction on the substrates was clearly observed and its reversible decoloration behaviors responded.

  • This paper presents an antenna design that can be applied to flexible transparent conducting film. The antennas shaping PIFA (Planar Inverted F-shpae Antenna) were produced on polyamide substrates, which are flexible. The IZTO/Ag/IZTO multilayer films were used for the antennas and exhibited superior electrical, optical and flexible characteristics. This study compared the transparency and performance of two antennas (IZTO/Ag/IZTO multilayer film, and Ag monolayer film). The operation frequencies were set to 5.18~5.32 GHz of WLAN (802.11a). The performance showed a maximum efficiency and peak gain of 89 % and 5.86 dBi, respectively.

  • Establishment of adhesion strength measurement procedure for marine epoxy coatings was conducted in order to ensure reliability of the test results. It was found that (1) the increase in thickness of the substrates would induce increase of pull-off strength. Especially, the increase in adhesion strength with the substrate thickness increment was attributed to the transition of stress mode to the pure tensile mode excluding bending effect. (2) The longer curing time, the higher pull-off strength. It may be due to higher cross-linking density of the coating (3) The pull-off strength increases as coating thickness increases due to the diminishment of bending effect (4) The longer drying time after water immersion, the higher pull-off strength. It may be due to the evaporation of water molecule at the coating-substrate interface.

  • The paper discusses the use of stable emulsion, prepared by membrane emulsification technology, to improve the enantiocatalytic performance of immobilised lipase in multiphasic membrane reactors. The production of optical pure (S)-naproxen from racemic naproxen methyl ester has been used as model reaction system. The enzyme was immobilised in the sponge layer (shell side) of capillary polyamide membrane with 50 kDa cut-off, The O/W emulsion, containing the substrate in the organic dispersed phase, was fed to the enzyme membrane reactor from shell-to-lumen. The results evidenced that lipase maintained stable activity during all the operation time (more than 250 hours), showing an enantiomeric excess (96 $\pm$2%) comparable to the free enzyme (98 $\pm$ 1%) and much higher compared to similar lipase-loaded membrane reactors used in two-separate phase systems (90%). The study showed that immobilised enzymes can achieve high stability as well as high catalytic activity and enantioselectivity.

  • In this work, novel thin film composite (TFC) forward osmosis (FO) membranes are developed via interfacial polymerization on the polysulfone (PS) substrate, using TEOS as the a sol-gel reagent to form hydrophilic interlayer polymer between PS and polyamide (PA). The PS substrate was cast on a very thin polyester nonwoven to reduce membrane resistance. With the incorporation of TEOS (tetraethoxy silane) polymer in the interface between PS and PA, the formed TFC FO membrane exhibits better hydrophilicity and improved water flux, and therefore superior membrane performance. By changing the polymerization sequence of PA interfacial polymerization and TEOS sol-gel condensation, the surface properties and performance of FO membranes are changed significantly. The permeability of FO membranes were estimated using the bench-scale FO test equipment. The distribution of the polysiloxane on composite membrane and morphology are also studied with FE-SEM and EDAX. The PS_PA_TEOS membrane showed highly enhanced water flux (79.2 LMH) but reverse salt flux (RSF) value (7.10 GMH) also increased. However, the flux of PS_TEOS_PA membrane increased moderately (54.1 LMH) without increasing RSF value (1.60 GMH) compare with PS_PA membrane.

  • In this study, acetylated methyl cellulose (AMC) was successfully used as a support layer of thin film composite (TFC) forward osmosis (FO) membrane. A selective polyamide active layer, interfacially polymerized, was coated on top of various substrate layers. The structure and performance of the TFC FO membrane based on the AMC substrate were compared with those of TFC FO membranes with different polymeric support layers. The experimental results showed that the AMC FO membrane performance was better than other FO membranes due to its characteristic morphology and lower back diffusion rate of salts.

  • This study proposes an innovative methodology for developing flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs) capable of conforming to three-dimensional shapes, meeting the increasing demand for electronic circuits in diverse and complex product designs. By integrating a traditional flat plate-based fabrication process with a subsequent three-dimensional thermal deformation technique, we have successfully demonstrated an FPCB that maintains stable electrical characteristics despite significant shape deformations. Using a modified polyimide substrate along with Ag flake-based conductive ink, we identified optimized process variables that enable substrate thermal deformation at lower temperatures (~130℃) and enhance the stretchability of the conductive ink (ε ~30%). The application of this novel FPCB in a prototype 3D-shaped sensor device, incorporating photosensors and temperature sensors, illustrates its potential for creating multifunctional, shape-adaptable electronic devices. The sensor can detect external light sources and measure ambient temperature, demonstrating stable operation even after transitioning from a planar to a three-dimensional configuration. This research lays the foundation for next-generation FPCBs that can be seamlessly integrated into various products, ushering in a new era of electronic device design and functionality.

  • A phthalocyanine reactive dye was applied to nylon fibers to study the effects of the temperature and pH on % exhaustion and fixation. In addition, appropriate predictable empirical models, relatively new approaches in dyeing process, were developed incorporating interactions effects of temperature and pH for predicting the both % exhaustion and fixation. The significance of the mathematical model developed was ascertained using Excel regression (solver) analysis module. A very high correlation coefficient was obtained ($R^2=0.9895$ for % exhaustion, $R^2=0.9932$ for fixation) for the model which shows prominent prediction capacity of the model for the unknown conditions. The predictable polynomial equations developed from the Experimental results were thoroughly analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) statistical concepts.
