실시간 폴리싱 압력 제어시스템 개발 (Development of In-Process Polishing Pressure Control System)

  • Polishing process has been applied to get extremely fine surfaces, e.g., mirror surfaces such as optical mirrors, lens, molds and etc. Nowadays not only fine surface quality but also submicron order of dimensional accuracy is required for many applications. To meet the requirements polishing process should be provided with an active control of polishing pressure especially for automation of polishing process. In this paper a study on development of an active polishing pressure control system has been presented. A new type of tool assembly has been developed to facilitate the control. The tool is attached to an axis of a polishing machine with a coil spring and control of the polishing pressure is done by the position control of the axis, which needs no additional actuator. The polishing pressure is successfully measured by the measurement of the spring deformation. Control specifications were quantitatively considered by weighting functions and a controller was designed by using loop-shaping technique based on the no synthesis. Some experiments have been executed on a polishing machine with a PC-NC controller. It is shown that the results were coincident well with the theoretical analyses and satisfied the design specifications.

자유곡면의 밀링 자기연마 복합가공에 관한 연구 (Compound Machining of Milling and Magnetic Abrasive Polishing for Free Form Surface)

  • Automated magnetic abrasive polishing which can be applied after machining of the mold on a machine tool without unloading is very effective for finishing a complicated injection mold surface. This study aims to realize one step polishing of free form surface with the same machine tool. For this purpose, magnetic flux density according to the change of curvature radii was simulated for selecting polishing conditions and experimental verification was performed with a complicated mold of aluminum alloy. As a result, it was seen by the simulation that the magnetic flux density at a gradual curvature of the mold was higher than at a steep curvature and the higher magnetic flux density produced the better surface roughness in the experimentation. The deviation for the surface roughness of the mold decreased on the whole and the uniform mold surface was obtained after the automated magnetic abrasive polishing.

  • In high speed cutting process, due to the friction between the tool and workpiece, a temperature rise of contacting part is serious. It need to develop cutting tool for overcoming such a poor condition. So now, some studies, the optimization of tool shapes, the fine grains of tool material, multi-layer coating of tools are processing. If mirror finishing on the tool is processed, there is advantage of relation between chip and tool, because of less friction, and also tool's lift would be increased. As a result mirror like finishing is expected efficient enhancement of tool. Generally, it is too difficult to process by a general way for tools of complex shapes, it is required a new method to process such complex shape tools. The magnetic fluid polishing technique can polish the workpiece of complex shape, because the polishing method which polishes as compress the workpiece by the magnetism abrasives to arrange to the linear according to the line of magnetic force. In this paper, We polished the surface of the high speed cutting tool using the magnetic fluid polishing technique, to enhance the performance of the high speed cutting tool.

자속밀도 가중치에 의한 자유곡면 자기연마 공구곡률 선정 (Determination of Curvature Radius of Magnetic Tool Using Weighted Magnetic Flux Density in Magnetic Abrasive Polishing)

  • During the magnetic abrasive polishing of a curved surface, the improvement in surface roughness varies with the maximum value and distribution of magnetic flux density. Thus, in this study, the magnetic flux density on the curved surface was simulated according to curvature radii of magnetic tool. As a result of the simulation, the 14.5mm of the magnetic tool had a higher maximum magnetic flux density and it showed a large weighted magnetic flux density. The weighted magnetic flux density means the highest value for the magnetic flux density in the curvature of the magnetic tool. From the experimental verification, the better improvement in surface roughness was observed on wider area at the 14.5mm radius of the magnetic tool than other radii.

  • The present study deals with polishing machining of diamond for jewelry using developed automatic polishing machine that can cut diamond to have 58 facets in a brilliant cutting which has been hardly achieved by a conventional manually operating polishing machine. Upon the 3-dimensional Sarin M/C test and analysis on the machined diamond by the developed automatic polishing machine its proportion and finishing turned out to be better than the machined diamond by the conventional manually operating polishing machine.

  • Polishing a die that has free-form surfaces is a time-consuming and tedious job, and requires a considerable amount of high-precision skill. In order to reduce the polishing time and cope with the shortage of skilled workers, a user-friendly automatic polishing system was developed. The polishing system is composed of two subsystems, a three-axis machining center and a two-axis polishing robot. The system has five degrees of freedom and is able to keep the polishing tool in a position normal to the die surface during operation. A sliding mode control algorithm with velocity compensation was proposed to reduce tracking errors. Trajectory tracking experiments showed that the tracking error can be reduced prominently by the proposed sliding mode control compared to a PD (proportional derivative) control. To evaluate the polishing performance of the polishing system and to and the optimal polishing conditions, the polishing experiments were conducted.

  • Polishing work for a curved surface die demands simple and repetitive operations and requires much time while it also demands high precision. Therefore it is operated by skilled worker in handiwork. But workers avoid polishing work gradually because of the poor environments such as dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and to alleviate the problem of shortage of skilled workers, researches for automation of polishing have been pursued in the developed countries such as Japan. In this research we develop a polishing robot with 2 degrees of freedom motion and pneumatic system, and attach it to machining center with 3 degrees of freedom to form an automatic polishing system which keeps the polishing tool vertically on the surface of die and maintains constant pneumatic pressure. The developed polishing robot is controlled by real time sliding mode control using DSP(digital signal processor). A synchronization between machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. A performance experiment for polishing work is executed by the developed polishing robot.

  • In order to polish complicated shaped inner surfaces of molds, a new polishing method with consolation liquid was Invented The MAGIC (MAGnetic Intelligent Compound) Polishing is the best method, a countermeasure of polishing trouble that is reduce of productivity and instability of quality. But because MAGIC polishing is new polishing method there is no study of the standardization of polishing by MAGIC wheel yet. So we want to standadize MAGIC polishing condition. For the First time, we will evaluate the influence of composition ratio and kind of polishing grain in polishing surface roughness.   • The aspherical lens was designed to be able to array a focal point. For this reason, it has very curved surface. The aspherical lens is fabricated by injection molding or diamond turning machine. With the aspherical lens, tool marks and surface roughness affect the optical characteristics, such as transmissivity. However, it is difficult to polish free form surface shapes uniformly with conventional methods. Therefore, in this paper, the ultra-precision polishing method with MR fluid was used to polish an aspherical lens with 4-axis position control systems. A Tool path and polishing mechanism were developed to polish the aspherical lens shape. An MR polishing experiment was performed using a generated tool path with a PMMA aspherical lens after the turning process. As a result, surface roughness was improved from $R_a=40.99nm$, $R_{max}=357.1nm$ to $R_a=4.54nm$, $R_{max}=35.72nm$. Finally, the MR polishing system can be applied to the finishing process of fabrication of the aspherical lens.
