Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintering (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 Ceramics with the Variation of Poling Electric Field (저온소결 (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 세라믹스의 분극전계에 따른 압전 및 유전특성)

  • In this paper, the influences of poling electric field on piezoelectric properties of $0.95(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})NbO_3$-$0.05Li(Sb_{0.8}Nb_{0.2})O_3$ (abbreviated as KNN-LSN) ceramics were investigated. The specimens was sintered at sintering temperature of $1050^{\circ}C$. They showed orthorhombic phase structure without secondary phase. Electromechanical coupling factor (kp), dielectric and piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$) increased with poling electric field. However, mechanical quality factor (Qm) decreased. Take into account of poling conditions and piezoelectric properties of KNN-LSN ceramics, the optimum poling condition for KNN-LSN ceramics was poling electric field of 4.5 kV/mm. At the time, kp of 0.458, Qm of 43.97, $d_{33}$ of 278 pC/N, and dielectric constant of 1079 were shown, respectively.

  • The distributions of electric field and induced second-order nonlinearity are analyzed in the periodic poling of optical fibers. A quasi-phase matching efficiency for the induced nonlinearity is calculated in terms of both the electrode separation distance between the applied voltage and generalized electrode width for the periodic poling. Our analysis of the quasi-phase matching efficiency implies that the conversion efficiency can be enhanced through adjusting the separation distance, and the electrode width can be maximized if the electrode width is optimized.

  • In this study, the piezoelectric characteristics of a piezoelectric paint sensor were investigated in relation to the poling time. This piezoelectric paint sensor was composed of PNN-PZT powder and epoxy resin with a 1:1 weight ratio. The dimensions of the paint specimen were $40{\times}10{\times}1mm^3$, and the top and bottom sides were both coated with a silver paste to create electrodes. During the poling treatment, the poling time was controlled to examine the effect of the piezoelectric properties, while the poling temperature was fixed at room temperature and the electric field was set to 4 kV/mm. The piezoelectric properties were measured by comparing the output voltage from the paint sensor to the force signal from an impact hammer when the impact hammer hit the specimen. In conclusion, the optimal poling conditions were found to be an electric field of 4 kV/mm and a poling time of around 30 min at room temperature.

Piezoelectric property of PZT ceramics by DC field and corona discharge poling (직류전계 및 corona방전에 따른 PZT 세라믹스의 분극과 압전특성)

  • Piezoelectric properties of sintered specimen having a tetragonal phase of $Pb_{0.9888}Sr_{0.012}(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_{3}$ were comparatively studied with two different poling methodes, i.e., DC field and corona discharge technique. Internal stress of poled specimens by indentation fracture toughness was analyzed to evaluate degradation phenomenon. As the results, it was confirmed that corona discharge poling technique is practicable and has merits such as low-temperature poling, slow degradation and no electric breakdown comparing to DC field poling. However, corona discharge technique showed lower Kp value than DC field poling.

The Effect of Poling Strength on Temperature Dependence of Resonance Frequency of PZT Ceramics Near the Morphotropic Phase Boundary (분극전계가 모포트로픽 상경계 부근의 PZT 세라믹스의 공진주파수의 온도의존성에 미치는 영향)

  • Poling is an important process in fabricating PZT ceramic devices such as filters and resonators and activates piezoelectricity to sintered PZT ceramics. Tolerance of the operating frequency of these devices is tightly required in applications. And a factor to attribute the tolerance is the temperature dependence of the resonance frequency of PZT ceramics. In this paper the relationship of poling strength and temperature dependence of resonance frequency of PZT specimens was studied. The $Pb(Zr_{0.53}Ti_{0.47})O_3$ ceramics were fabricated and the poling strengths were chosen to be 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 [kV/mm]. The dielectric constant of the specimen poled in poling strength 0.5 [kV/mm] was less than that of unpoled specimen and the specimen poled in higher electric field had the higher dielectric constant. (002) peak in X-ray diffraction patterns of the specimens increased as poling strength increased. And the change of resonance frequency of the specimens according to the variation of temperature was measured. Resonance frequency of all specimens increased as the temperature increased. The specimen poled in higher electric field had the smaller positive temperature coefficient of resonance frequency. The effect that temperature coefficient of resonance frequency becomes smaller is obtained when Zr mole in PZT composition equation increase. Controlling the poling strength is believed to be a method to adjust the temperature stability of resonance frequency of the PZT ceramic devices.

  • Thick PZT films are required for the cases of micro actuators and sensors with high driving force, high breakdown voltage and high sensitivity, and so on. In this work, thick PZT films were fabricated by Sol-Gel multi-coating method. Total 8 types of samples using thick PZT films with thicknesses, about $1{\mu}m$ and $2{\mu}m$, and Pt top electrodes shapes for measuring transverse piezoelectric coefficient ($e_{31,f}$) were fabricated using MEMS processes. They were characterized by fabricated e31,f measurement system before and after poling. $e_{31,f}$ values of samples after poling were higher than before poling. Those of $2{\mu}m$ thick PZT films were also higher than $1{\mu}m$ thick PZT films. And those with long electrodes as top electrodes were also higher than shorter.

  • The properties of piezoelectric and dielectric for 0.05Pb$(Mn_{0.4}W_{0.2}Nb_{0.4})O_3$ - $0.95PbZr_{x}Ti_{1-x}O_{3}$ compositions have been investigated. In the composition of 0.05Pb$(Mn_{0.4}W_{0.2}Nb_{0.4})O_3$-$0.95PbZr_{0.51}Ti_{0.49}O_{3}$, the values of $k_p$ and ${\varepsilon_{33}}^T/{\varepsilon}_0$ are maximized, but $Q_m$ was minimized ($k_p$=56.5[%], $Q_m$=1130, $d_{33}$=258[pC/N], ${\varepsilon_{33}}^T/{\varepsilon}_0$=1170). The grain size was suppressed and the uniformity of gram was improved at the $1100[^{\circ}C]$. Dielectric constant increase at the Ti rich, but decrease at the Zr rich after poling. Because the dielectric constant after poling is determined by compromising effects between dipole switching and electostriction inducing stress(dielectric constant increasing factor) and dipole rotation to the poling direction (dielectric constant decreasing factor).

  • Undoped and 5mol%MgO DOPED {{{{ { LiNbO}_{ 3} }}}} were grown by floating zone method. The grown crystals were poled to c-azis in different electric conditions. Ferroelectric domain patterns related to the poling conditions were investigated by chemical etching and the poling effects on the piezoelectric in the undoped and MgO doped Crystals were studied.

  • 아조벤젠 그룹의 trans-cis-trans photo isomerization 특성에 의한 광배향 (photoinduced orientation) 성질을 이용하여 아조벤젠이 함유된 폴리머박막에 표면 부조 격자 (surface relief grating)를 만드는 것은 널리 알려져 있다. 특히 최근 들어, 비선형 물질의 주기적인 배열 구조를 만들기 위해서 surface relief grating을 corona poling 하는 방법들이 연구되어 지고 있다. poling된 surface relief grating은 poling 방향으로의 azo분자의 극질서가 유도되기 때문에, $C_{{\infty}v}$점대칭을 가지는 비등방 회절 격자(anisotropic grating)가 되며 2차 비선형 특성 중의 하나인 선형 전기 광학 효과를 나타낼 수 있다.   • PbTi $O_3$ family ceramics can be used for the piezoelectric transformer using thickness extensional vibration mode because it is a material with the large anisotropy between electromechanical coupling factors $k_{t}$ and $k_{p}$. However, PbTi $O_3$ family ceramics have a difficult poling condition on account of its large anisotrophy.
