비편광 UV조사에 의한 광배향 VA-LCD의 전기광학특성 (Electro-optical properties of photo-aligned VA-LCD by irradiation of unpolarized UV light.)

  • The electro-optical characteristics of photo-aligned vertical-alignment (VA)-liquid crystal display (LCD) with non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation of 45\`on homeotropic polyimide (Pl) surface were investigated. LC alignment on photo-aligned VA-LCD is attributed to photo-depolymerized reaction of the polymer with non-polarized UV light irradiation on PI surface. We had good voltage-transmittance (V-T) characteristics of photo-aligned VA-LCD. The response time of photo-aligned VA-LCD was slower than that of the rubbing-aligned VA-LCD. Finally, we suggest that the slow response time of photo-aligned VA-LCD depends on the LC domain.

Optical Characteristics of Corneal Nanostructure According to the Angle of Collagen-fiber-layer Arrangement

  • Collagen fibers tens of nanometers in size, which constitute most of the corneal volume of the human eye, are layered in a uniform direction, and adjacent fiber layers are arranged at an angle of 90° to each other. According to the results of this study, the transmittance at 45° of interlayer rotation angle is highest, and higher than that of the 90° body structure. The transmittance is examined, concerning the polarization state of the incident light; circularly polarized light case shows higher transmittance than linearly polarized. Through this, a simulation to confirm the deformed structure of collagen fibers, which show higher transmittance than the anatomical structure of the cornea, is attempted.

  • Many of the problems by using the microscope are related to the fact that the eyes of the surgeon must be continually fixed to the microscope eyepieces. In this paper, we describe a development of the stereoscopic monitoring system of the stereo microscope for reduced eyestrain or operator fatigue about the long time observations of the microscope. The system consists of the stereoscopic camera part, the stereoscopic image processor device and the polarized light stereoscopic monitor. The left and right images obtained form the two CCD cameras are the same as the eyepiece images. By use of the image processor, the polarized light stereoscopic monitor displayed a real-time stereo microscope images.

폴리이미드막표면위에 경사진 자외선 조사를 이용한 액정셀에서의 고프리틸트각의 발생 (Generation of High Pretilt Angle in a Cell with Oblique non-polarized UV Light Irradiation on Polyimide Surface)

  • We investigated the generation of high pretilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in a cell with obilique non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on mixtured polyimide surface. It was found that the monodomain alignment of NLC is obtained with an angle of incidence of 75∼85 degrees on PI surface. We consider that the monodomain alignment of NLC is attributed to anisotropic dispersion force effect to photo-depolymerization of polymer. We successfully observed that the pretilt angle of NLC is generated above 5 degree with an angle of incidence of 75∼85 degrees. It is considered that the pretilt angle generation NLC is attributed to interaction between the LC molecules and the polymer surfaces.

  • The clinical characteristics of photodamaged skin, such as coarse and fine wrinkle are not accurately evaluable with previous methods. Public awareness for wrinkle treatment and prevention which rely on proper assessment and evaluation of the underlying skin changes has been increased as the population ages. In this paper, we suggest an in-vivo method and instrument that allow us to acquire a wrinkle-enhanced image to improve the accuracy of quantitative and qualitative analysis for skin wrinkle. The method used involved white LED illumination and photography through polarizing filters. Finally, the polarized light photography yields an accurate and evaluable parameter of photodamaged skin, especially fine and coarse wrinkle.

레이저 광압을 이용한 세슘 원자빔의 집속 (Collimation of cesium atomic beam using laser light pressure)

  • 세슘오븐에서 방출되는 열원자빔에 대해 횡방향 냉각을 실시하여 원자빔을 집속하였다. 이를 위해 원자빔의 진행방향에 수직으로, 서로 반대방향으로 진행하는 $\sigma^+$$\sigma^-$의 원편광 레이저를 비추었다. 그 결과, 원자의 횡방향 속도 성분에 해당하는 온도를 430 mK에서 약 60 uK으로 냉각시킬 수 있었다. 그리고 서로 반대 방향에서 진행하는 냉각용 레이저광의 세기가 다를 경우와 원자빔에 자장을 가하는 경우에 원자빔의 공간적 분포가 달라지는 것을 관찰하였고, 도플러 냉각이론에 이용하여 정성적으로 설명하였다.

  • In this paper, we studied the electro-optical(EO) performance of photo-aligned twisted nematic(TN)-liquid crystal display(LCD) with oblique non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on polyimide (PI) surface. The monodomain alignment of photo-aligned TN-LCD is obtained with an angle of incidence of $85^{\circ}$ on PI surface. Also, we observed that the voltage transmittance and response time characteristics of photo-aligned TN-LCD is almost same compared to rubbing treated TN-LCD. Finally, we measured that the voltage-holding-ratio(VHR) of photo-aligned TN-LCD is almost same compared to rubbing treated TN-LCD.

  • Optical communication according to request of technology of communications and optical fiber to be full filed faster communication and pass over transmission capacity limit per unit area, per unit hour appeared, and this optical fiber acts the biggest role to influence performance of optical communication network. Optical fiber(PMF Polarization Maintaining Fiber) is used, and is used by electric field measurement, self-discipline measurement, sensor(Sensor) Department by high definition measure such as thermometry and storehouse component that use because make broad sense status and polarized light information in passageway and union with storehouse integrated circuit etc. that use broad sense interference developing could transmit in state that keep transmitting broad sense plane of polarization is polarized light existence. Also, research is developed by optical fiber for Coherent communication recently.

  • 편광 광산란 분광법을 이용하여 광 확산물질의 표면 정보만을 선택적으로 얻었으며, Mie 산란 이론으로 표면의 산란체 크기 정보를 얻었다. 그 결과 편광 광산란 분광법이 광 확산 물체의 표면 정보만을 측정하는데 적절한 방법임을 확인하였고, 이 연구 결과는 세포와 같은 광 확산 물체를 측정하는데 이용될 수 있다.
