A Model Calculation of Solar Microwave Burst Structure

  • The structures of 17GHz microwave burst for bipolar sunspots have investigated. which included the effects of the projected shapes of radio sources as they traverse across the solar disk using a magnetic loop employing a model of solenoid coils. An ensemble of high-energy electrons confined in the loop be assumed. The projected brightnesls distributions of gyrosynchrotron emission in x- and o-modes are computed and converted into total intensity and circular polarization difference at 17GHz for various heliocentric distances using numerical integration of the transfer equation along the line of sight. The results of computations at 17GHz for optical thin case will be presented. and the effects of the orientation of the loop will be discussed in detail, as well as the effect of size, position, Structure, and polarization of the emission. Also the results of the various physical P8lrameters such as the strength of magnetic field. high and low energy cut-off of accelerated electrons. spectral index and density of electrons will be preslmted. After comparing the results of model calculation with observations. we found that the observations can be well explained in terms of a loop model and its projection effect.effect.

  • The beam splitter is important in optical communication systems. in this work, thc quasi-state based on four-mode interference in thc MMI coupler is proposed, and so, device length is shorten to be 1/5 of general designed length. We designed thc polarization splitter based on thc concept of quasi-state. Thc analysis has been accomplished by thc effective index method(EIM) and thc mode propagation analysis(MPA) for given structure.

  • In this paper, sample coils for stator form-wound winding of traction motor were tested by the accelerative thermal degradation, which composed of heat, vibration, moisture and overvoltage applying. Reliability and expected life were evaluated on the insulation system for 200 class traction motor. After aging of 10 cycles, insulation resistance and PI properties were investigated as diagnosis tests in the range of $20{\sim}160^{\circ}C$. Analysis of polarization properties was performed on the base of do current-time change.

Determination of crystallinity index of cellulose depending on sample preparation and analysis instruments (시료 조건 및 측정방법에 따른 셀룰로오스의 결정화도 평가)

  • The crystallinity index is an important characteristic of cellulose. The crystallinity value is different depending on the adopted instrument. In this study, we determined a crystallinity index of cotton and wood celluloses using wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), powder X-ray diffractometer (PXRD), and cross polarization/magic angle spinning solid-state $^{13}C$ nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (CP/MAS solid-state $^{13}C$ NMR). The specimen was prepared in forms of powder, sheet and pallet. With the comparison of the obtained crystallinity indices of the cellulose, the effects of the analysis instrument, the sample preparation and analysis method were investigated. Among three instruments, the crystallinity indices by PXRD and NMR had a good relationship and reproducibility, and WAXS gave the crystallinity index with poor reproducibility. In the case of analysis methods of crystallinity indices, the Segal method showed higher value than that of the Ruland-Vonk method. We expect that this study would be applicable to evaluate the crystallinity index of various cellulose materials with accuracy and reproducibility.

In-line Variable Attenuator Based on the Evanescent Wave Coupling Between a Side-polished Single-mode Fiber and an Index Matched Dielectric Plate

  • An in-line variable attenuator has been proposed and demonstrated exploiting a side-polished single-mode (SM) fiber evanescently coupled with an index matched dielectric plate. The attenuation can be controlled by fine mechanical sliding of the index matched dielectric plate. We have achieved 49 ㏈ dynamic range and very low excess loss of 0.2 ㏈ at 1550 nm wavelength. The measured polarization dependent losses (PDL) were 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 ㏈ at 10, 20, and 30 ㏈ attenuation, respectively. Wavelength sensitivity was measured to be -0.017/nm ㏈ at 20 ㏈ attenuation.

Correlation between the Thickness and Variation of Dielectric Conatant on SiOC thin film (SiOC 박막에서 박막의 두께와 유전율의 변화)

  • The SiOC films were deposited with the variation of flow rate ratios by chemical vapor deposition. It was researched the reason of decreasing the dielectric constant in SiOC film and the relationship between the dielectric constant and the thickness. The thickness of the deposited films tends to in proportion to the refractive index and the sample with the lowest dielectric constant decreased the thickness. The refractive index was decreased after annealing because of the decreasing of the film's thickness by annealing process.

A Study on Temporal Variations of Geomagnetic Transfer Functions and Polarization Values Obtained at Cheongyang Geomagnetic Observatory (청양 지자기관측소에서 획득된 지자기전달함수와 분극값의 시간변동성에 대한 연구)

  • We analyzed a total of six months of geomagnetic data obtained at Cheonyang observatory, which is operated by Korean Meteorological Administration, to monitor earthquake precursors. Geomagnetic transfer functions (GTFs) and polarization values, which reflect the time-variations of the resistivity of subsurface, were estimated from 3-component geomagnetic data. The time-variant fluctuations were compared with the earthquake events occurred in the same period. Now that the daily GTFs show fairly irregular variations, we can not identify any correlation with the already occurred earthquakes and Kp index. On the other hand, we detect clear increases of the Ultra-Low-Frequency (ULF) band polarization values before the earthquakes, but the similar features are also observed even though the earthquake did not occur. This result may indicate that these time-variations are not just due to the earthquake precursor. For further understanding about these results, we need to investigate the relationship between the previous earthquake events and the geomagnetic data of other observatories.

Bi-Polarization of the Income Distribution In Korea: 1997-2003 (소득 분포의 양극화 추이)

  • On the basis of the Korea Labor and Income Panel Survey for the 1997 through 2003 period, this paper investigates if the income distribution has become more bi-polarized since the recent financial crisis. The polarization measure developed by Esteban and Ray(l994) and Duclos, Esteban, and Ray(2004) indicates that the distribution of total income has become much more bi-polarized than unequalized for the entire sample period. Second, the rapid increase in the bi-polarization measure is attributed to the enhanced within-group homogeneity among the lower-income group as well as the widening gap between the two groups in the mean income level. Third, no such pattern exists in the distribution of labor income. Overall, the findings in the current study would support the hypothesis of a centrifuging society which is characterized by the slow disappearance of the middle class and the formation of two poles and which is observed in the United States and the United Kingdom among others.

Improvement of extinction ratio of polarization independent very short vertical directional couplers with the double-sided deep-ridge waveguide structure (편광에 관계없이 매우 짧은 결합길이를 가지는 Double-Sided Deep-Ridge 도파관 구조 수직 방향성 결합기의 소멸비 향상)

  • We show that the extinction ratio is improved using slight asymmetry in two core refractive indices of polarization independent very short vertical directional couplers with the double-sided deep-ridge (DSDR) waveguide structure. The optimum asymmetry with the maximum extinction ratio and the tolerance of the refractive index of core with the extinction ratio larger 1ha]1 30 ㏈ increase as the thickness of inner cladding layer and the two cores decrease due to the increase of the coupling strength between the two cores. Also, the device length and the tolerance of the device length with the extinction ratio larger than 30 ㏈ decrease as the thickness of the inner cladding layer and the two cores decrease due to the increase of the coupling strength between the two cores. We show that polarization independent vertical directional couplers with the DSDR waveguide structure with the device length less than 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and the extinction ratio larger than 30 ㏈ could be implemented.

Monitoring of Gamma-ray Bright AGN : The Multi-Frequency Polarization of the Flaring Blazar 3C 279

  • We present results of long-term multi-wavelength polarization observations of the powerful blazar 3C 279 after its ${\gamma}$-ray flare on 2013 December 20. We followed up this flare by means of single-dish polarization observations with two 21-m telescopes of the Korean VLBI Network, carried out weekly from 2013 December 25 to January 11, and at 22, 43, and 86 GHz, simultaneously. These observations were part of the Monitoring Of GAmma-ray Bright AGNs (MOGABA) program. We Measured 3C 279 total flux densities at 22, 43, and 86 GHz, showing a mild variability of a factor of ${\leq}50%$ over the period of our observations. The spectral index ranged from -0.13 to -0.36 at between 22 and 86 GHz. The degree of linear polarization was in the range of 6 ~ 12 %, and slightly decreased with time at all frequencies. We found Faraday rotation measures (RM) of -300 to $-1200rad\;m^{-2}$ between 22 and 43 GHz, and -800 to $-5100rad\;m^{-2}$ between 43 and 86 GHz. The RM values follow a power law ${\mid}RM{\mid}{\propto}{\nu}^{\alpha}$, with a mean ${\alpha}$ of 2.2, implying that the polarized emission at these frequencies travels through a Faraday screen in or near the jet. We conclude that the regions emitting polarized radio emission may be different from the region responsible for the 2013 December ${\gamma}$-ray flare, and that these regions are maintained by the dominant magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of the radio jet at milliarcsecond scales.
