A study on the application of electrochemical method for degradation evaluation (열화평가에 전기화학적 방법의 응용에 관한 연구)

  • In order to develop the evaluation methods of degradation for the Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel, which is in use for turbine rotor in nuclear power plant, the degraded materials were prepared by simulated degradation methods. The result of impact test and fatigue crack growth test shows that the FATT(Fracture Appearance Transition Temperature) and fatigue crack growth rate increased with the increase of degradation. And the result of new electrochemical polarization test method was suggested for the evaluating FATT, fatigue crack growth exponent and coefficient C values based on the results of relationship between corrosion current density(Icorr) & FATT, and the m & C and Icorr.

Sensitivity Analysis of Fiber Optic Hydrophone for an End-Capped Hollow Cylinder (끝단이 막힌 중공 원통형 광섬유 하이드로폰의 감도 해석)

  • Recently, fiber optic hydrophone is a subject which has attracted as a underwater acoustic sensor. In this paper, a length of optical fiber is bonded to an end-capped hollow cylinder of some elastic material, e. g. aluminum and glass-pyres. The normalized sensitivity is derived according to the direction of polarization. Derived sensitivity equations are simulated for two different mandrel materials. The results are also compared to the McMahon's results which calculated for an average Pockel coefficient. Based on the numerical simulation normalized sensitivity is propotional to the inner to outer diameter ratio.

The Prediction of Remaining Service Life of Land Concrete Due to Steel Corrosion (철근부식에 의한 육지 콘크리트의 잔존수명 예측)

  • This paper presents the prediction of remaining service life of the concrete due to steel corrosion caused by the following three cases; carbonation, using sea sand and using deicing salts. The assessment of initiation period was generalized considering the existing perdiction models in the literature, corrosion experiment and field assessment. To evaluate the prediction equation of rust growth, the corrosion accelerating experiments was performed. The polarization resistance was measured by potentiostat and the conversion coefficient of polarzation resistance to corrosion rate was determined by the measurement of real mass loss. Chloride content, carbonation, cover depth, relative humidity, water-cement ratio(W/C), and the use of deicing salts were taken into account and the resulting prediction equation of rust growth was proposed on the basis of these properties. The proposed equation is to predict the rust growth during any specified period of time and be effective in particular for predicting service life of concrete in the case of using sea sand.

  • The chemical behavior and properties related to the redox state of environmental pollutants were investigated using electrochemical methods. Measurements were taken of variations in the redox potential and cyclic polarization current. The results established the influence of various factors, including concentration, temperature, salt, and pH, on the redox potential and current. These factors were determined to effect the result of the redox reaction. Optimum conditions were also established for each case. It was clearly established that the electrode reaction was from a reversible to an irreversible process, plus it was also mixing reaction current controlled.

  • A nickel layer was deposited onto the PZT thin films, serving both as a selective radiation absorption layer and as a top electrode. The absorption properties of such nickel coated multi-layered infrared detectors were studied in the visible and infrared wavelength ranges. The optimal thickness of the nickel layer on our substrate was 10nm. The maximum absorption coefficient of the deposited 10nm thick nickel layer was 0.7 at a 632nm wavelength. However, a striking asymmetric polarization hysteresis loop was observed in these PZT thin films with nickel as the top electrode. This asymmetric polarization was attributed to the difference between the dynamic pyroelectric responses in these Ni/PZT/Pt films poled either positively or negatively before the measurement. A positively poled film showed a 40% higher voltage response than a negatively poled detector.

  • Temperature dependences of the remanent polarization $P_{\gamma}$/(T), effective birefringence ㅿn(T). dielectric constant K(T) and quadratic electro-optic coefficient R(T) of the two-stage sintered xBa(La$_{1/2}$Nb$_{1/2}$)O$_3$Pb$(Zr_{y}Ti_{1-y})O-{3}$(x=0.085, 0.09, 0.40$\leq$y$\leq$0.70)ceramics were investigated. Increasing the PbZrO$_3$ contents, the crystal structure of a specimen was varied from tetragonal and rhombohedral to cubic, and the phase transition was showed a diffuse phase transition(DPT) characteristics. Especially. in the compositions which located on the PE-FE phase boundary were showed a discrepancy between curie temperature and temperature range which a macroscopic polarization and a effective birefringence were disappeared.

Corrosion Characteristics of Amorphous Alloy Ribbon ($Fe_{70}Cr_5Si_{10}B_{15}$ and $Co_{70}Cr_5Si_{10}B_{15}$) in Hydrochloric Acid Aqueous Solution

  • In this study, experiments were carried out to measure the variations in the corrosion potential and current density of polarization curves with amorphous $Fe_{70}Cr_5Si_{10}B_{15}$ and $Co_{70}Cr_5Si_{10}B_{15}$ alloy ribbon. The results were particularly examined to identify the influences of corrosion potential including various conditions such as hydrochloric acid, temperature, salt, pH, and oxygen. The optimum conditions were established with variations including temperature, salt, pH, oxygen, corrosion rate, and resistance of corrosion potential. The mass tranfer coefficient(${\alpha}$) value was determined with the Tafel's slope for the anodic dissolution based on the polarization effect with optimum conditions. The second anodic current density peak and maximum passive current density were designated as the critical corrosion sensitivity($I_{r}/I_{f}$).

Simulation of Rayleigh wave's acoustoelastic effect in concrete, aluminum and steel

  • In this study, a finite-element surface wave simulation using an effective elastic constant (EEC) was developed to calculate the Rayleigh wave velocity change and polarization change in aluminum, steel, and concrete under uniaxial stress. Under stress, an isotropic medium behaves like an anisotropic material during the wave propagation. The EEC is an equivalent anisotropic stiffness matrix which was derived to simulate the acoustoelastic effect using classical finite-element software. The vertical and horizontal surface displacements located 8-mm from a 1-㎲ excitation load were used to find the acoustoelastic coefficients kv and kp and compared to an analytical scheme. It was found that kv for aluminum and concrete matched within 4% of the analytical solution. The finite-element simulation showed that the Rayleigh wave arrival time for concrete and aluminum was greatly influenced by the stress level. Thus, predicting the stress level using concrete and aluminum's acoustoelastic effect is applicable.

  • In this paper, we propose DLP(Dual Linear Polarization) stack antenna for private network. The proposed antenna has general stack structure and design airgap between two substrate to obtain the maximum gain. Also, to improve cross polarization isolation, two feeding port is designed to separate for each substrate. The size of each patch antenna is 17.80 mm(W1)×16.70 mm(L1) for lower patch and 18.56 mm(W2)×18.73 mm(L2) for upper patch, which is designed on the FR-4 substrate which thickness (h) is 1.6 mm, and the dielectric constant is 4.3, and which is 40.0 mm(W)×40.0 mm(L) for total size of substrate. From the fabrication and measurement results, bandwidths of 100 MHz (4.74 to 4.84 GHz) for feeding port 1, and 150 MHz (4.67 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 2 are obtained on the basis of -10 dB return loss and transmission coefficient S21 is got under the -20 dB. A Study on the Performance Evaluation of Polarization Diversity in Heavy Density Urban (고밀집 도심에서의 편파 다이버시티 성능 분석 연구)

  • In this paper, we analyzed the propagation characteristics of polarization diversity in the view of diversity gain, cross correlation coefficient and average received signal strength, and compared it with those of space diversity. From the results, we could confirm that in the care of line of sight(LOS), space diversity gain is bigger than polarization diversity gain by 2 dB and the diversity gain of mobile transmitting with 90 degree is bigger than that of mobile transmitting with 45 degree by 1 dB. However, in the area of non-line of sight(NLOS), the diversity gains were all most the same in two diversity schemes and in specular cases, polarization diversity showed better performances. Also it was verified that under the NLOS conditions, diversity gain of mobile transmitting with 45 degree was at least 1 dB bigger than that of mobile transmitting with 90 degree.
