The physical and mechanical properties of volcanic glass, which is distributed in the Samho area, South Korea were studied. Laboratory rock tests were carried out in order to obtain the various properties of rocks. Specific gravity, water content, absorption, porosity and wave velocity were measured for the physical properties. Uniaxial and triaxial compressive tests, Brazilian test and point load test were also performed for the mechanical properties. The tests of volcanic glass revealed that the apparent specific gravity, water content and absorption were 2.28, $1.67\%$ and $1.72\%$, respectively. Porosity $(3.87\%)$ was lower, whereas P-wave velocity (5330m/s) and S-wave velocity (2980 m/s) were relatively higher. Brazilian tensile strength ot 7.2MPa, and point load strength of 2.6MPa were among the mechanical properties of the rock. Uniaxial compressive strength (62.4MPa) estimated ken point load strength was very closed to the value (66.0MPa) from the uniaxial compressive test. Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio were E=43.2 GPa and v=0.28, respectively. Drawing the tangent line to Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion showed the cohesion of 20.1MPa and internal fraction angle of $28.6^{\circ}$.

When the energy performance of concrete is substantially higher than that of normal type concrete, such concrete is regarded as energy efficient concrete (WBSCSD 2009). An experimental study was conducted to investigate mechanical properties of energy efficient concrete with binary, ternary and quaternary admixture at different curing ages. Slump test for workability and air content test were performed on fresh concretes. Compressive strength, splitting tensile strength were made on hardened concrete specimens. The mechanical properties of concrete were compared with predicted values by ACI 363R-84 Code, NZS 3101-95 Code, CSA A23.3-94 Code, CEB-FIP Model, EN 1991, EC 2-02, AIJ Code, JSCE Code, and KCI Code. The use of silica fume increased the compressive strengths, splitting tensile strengths, modulus of elasticities and Poisson's ratios. On the other hand, the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength decreased with increasing fly ash.
In this study uniaxial cyclic loading tests were performed on Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone specimens to investigate the fatigue failure behavior. The loading rate was kept constantly at 760kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec under cyclic loading. In order to reveal the fatigue behavior for each rock type, the test results were mutually compared with previous studies carried out on Indiana Limes-tone and Seong-Ju Sandstone. Fatigue data is presented in the form of S-N curves, which illustrate the relationship of maximum applied stress(S) to the number of cycles(N) required to produce failure. For the purpose of comparing the S-N curves for each rock type, the test data were formulated up to 10$^4$cycles and the correlation coefficients(R) on Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone and Seong-Ju Sandstone specimen are 0.886 and 0.983, respectively. All three rock specimens were found to have shorter fatigue life at higher applied stress levels. The fatigue life for each rock type was considered as no less than 81.5, 70 and 74.8%, for Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone, Indiana Limestone and Seong-Ju Sandstone, respectively. The comparison in static strength for monotonic loaded specimens and specimens which did not fail even after 10$^4$cycles indicated that the increasing rate of strength was about 6.18 and 10.96% , for Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone and Indiana Limestone, respectively. Poisson's ratio and volumetric strain for Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone and Seong-ju Sandstone, tended in all the cases to rapidly increase at higher stress levels and with an increase in number of cycles. This increasing trend becomes rapid and obvious just before failure. Also Poisson's ratio and volumetric strain for each stress level were compared and analyzed at the first cycle and the cycle prior to failure.
Uniaxial compression tests are performed under various loading rates to study the influence of loading rate on the compressive strengths and deformation behaviours. The rock samples adopted in this experiments are Onyang granite, Hambaek sandstone, Hambaek shale and Donghae limestone. Total 120 specimens are prepared for this study. As the loading rate increases from static to dynamic state which is about the level of $800{\sim}1,400kgf/cm^2/sec$, the uniaxial compressive strengths are also increased within the range of 40%. And Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio show similar trends but have a little lower rates of increase when compared with that of uniaxial compressive strength.
This paper presents a numerical solution for the thick cylinders made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) with a constant Poisson's ratio and an arbitrary Young's modulus. We define two fundamental solutions which are derived from an ordinary differential equation under two particular initial boundary conditions. In addition, for the single layer case, we can define the transfer matrix N. The matrix gives a relation between the values of stress and displacement at the interior and exterior points. By using the assumed boundary condition and the transfer matrix, we can obtain the final solution. The transfer matrix method also provides an effective way for the solution of multiply layered cylinder. Finally, a lot of numerical examples are present.

This paper presents a study of the nonlinear cylindrical bending of an exponential functionally graded plate (simply called E-FG) with variable thickness. The plate is subjected to uniform pressure loading and his geometric nonlinearity is introduced in the strain-displacement equations based on Von-Karman assumptions. The material properties of functionally graded plates, except the Poisson's ratio, are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate in accordance with the exponential law distribution; and the solution is obtained using Hamilton's principle for constant plate thickness. In order to analyze functionally graded plate with variable thickness, a numerical solution using finite difference method is used, where parabolic variation of the plate thickness is studied. The results for E-FG plates are given in dimensionless graphical forms; and the effects of material and geometric properties on displacements and normal stresses through the thickness are determined.

The repeated unit cell structure is applied to the composite, the carbon nano tube and sandwich panel. In this paper, a study on the stiffness of unit cell structure has been performed with the tube support plate of the steam generator. For this, repeated unit cell structure's equivalent elastic constant and poisson's ratio was evaluated through FEA and tests under the elastic range load. Also we evaluated the effect on the specimen size from results.

Bellows is an important component in Joule-Thomson cryocooler, which minimize the excessive flow of the cryogenic gas. The bellows is made of Monel 400 and its geometry is an axial symmetric shell. During cool-down process, the pressure and volume within bellows must be satisfied with Benedict-Webb-Rubin state equation. Moreover, Poisson's ratio of Monel 400 is nearly constants, but its Young's modulus varies for a drop in temperature. Under these conditions, bellows contracts in the axial direction like a spring. To evaluate deformation of bellows at cryogenic temperature, the numerical calculation of the volume within bellows and finite element analysis are iteratively used in this research. the numerical results show that deformation of the bellows is approximately linear for change of temperature.

This paper presents design and analysis of stator which is vibration source of ring-type ultrasonic motor. The stator were designed for 9th flexural vibration mode. Designed stator was simulated by FEA for changing its materials. As results, the resonance frequencies of stators were changed by Poisson's ratio and density. And higher displacement were obtained by using the materials of low Young's modulus. Using the results, can easily design and manufacture the stator of ring type ultrasonic motor. And we suppose that it can save the time and finances.
The rational analytical solutions are presented for functionally graded beams subjected to arbitrary tractions on the upper and lower surfaces. The Young's modulus is assumed to vary exponentially along the thickness direction while the Poisson's ratio keeps unaltered. Within the framework of symplectic elasticity, zero eigensolutions along with general eigensolutions are investigated to derive the homogeneous solutions of functionally graded beams with no body force and traction-free lateral surfaces. Zero eigensolutions are proved to compose the basic solutions of the Saint-Venant problem, while general eigensolutions which vary exponentially with the axial coordinate have a significant influence on the local behavior. The complete elasticity solutions presented here include homogeneous solutions and particular solutions which satisfy the loading conditions on the lateral surfaces. Numerical examples are considered and compared with established results, illustrating the effects of material inhomogeneity on the localized stress distributions.
